One has to wonder how much experience B-1 pilots have shooting at ships

About the same as the B-52G/H crew when they start doing ocean patrol with Harpoon, the doctrine is already developed so they just have to learn the basic. It's just that they can get there faster and can launch further away.

B-52 and S-3 are in two different bigs.

Air Force might not need much of ASM in their arsenal if they got a powerful Navy and its carrier jets to do that job. Like you said the S-3, A-6 and then F/A-18 are capable to carry Harpoons, but these are small jets and hindered with limited flight radius compare to B-52 and B-1.

I would say it's depends on the the deployment. Ideally it's the one who launch harpoon first at shortest amount of time has the advantage, but that doesn't mean it's easier to punch through hostile defenses without a good-timed strike planning. That applied to LRASM too.

I don't think either has been done in anger - could be wrong.

The idea of the B-52 harpoon strike in the 80's/90's was mass. A Sqn of 8 BUFFs with 12 Harpoon each would add a lot of firepower to a CVN's ALPHA Strike on a Soviet SAG or Carrier Group.

I believe the doctrine was that the CVW would 'break-in' to the defences and do as much SEAD of the Ships defences as it could, the A-6/F-18 strike would work on the escorts and the BUFFs would come in shortly afterwards with for the HVUs.

I think the S-3 (and P-3 for that matter) use for the Harpoon was more in the armed Maritime Patrol role where you are so far from quick support you want to be armed with both ASW and ASuW munitions to tackle any target of opportunity.

I tried to search some words like 'ballistic', 'ABM' and alike in this article, but none has found, and pointed out the different between intercepting a 'programmed' RV and a 'real' RV. It is boldly written that is both against the peace of space (satellites) and is a failed test.

In other word, western media will NEVER admit non-western ABM capability no matter the circumstance. I do doubt what China trying to achieve with this test as well, but perpetually repeating a black history of ASAT test already gives readers more reasons why US military must pointing guns at Chinese military progressions, and ultimately aimed for budget increase.
