I won't shoot you John.......because I still have to vet out your mod [:D]

There was no need for you to apologize on my behalf however, because i have nothing to apologize for. If this really was/is Alan Zimm taking offense that I don't like his new book, then he's only proving my gut instinct correct based on the arrogant behavior of the poster or posters claiming to be him. Like i said in my response, maybe i'm a naive clown, but knowing one professional author and college professor in the past (Richard Worth) I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around a fellow academic of such lothy accolades acting in such a fashion. If it is him, his attitude speaks volumes more on him than on me.
I have to agree Nik, with the sentiment at least. I can understand an author wanting to defend his book, but struggle to deal with academic arrogance. Write a book Nik. I'll buy it and Dr Zimm can rip the piss out of it, then everyone will be happy and John can kiss your arse too![;)]

I got it. I got it. Took a while, but finally got there.

And if Nik was to write a book, I would buy it as well, and probably kiss his arse too.[8D]

Bugger! You've discovered the sham. The entire ship is inflatable. They're supposed to stow the compressor away after topping up the pressure each morning.

Oy! me write a book? that would be challenging....given I don't comprehend what i read. I'll call it. A.D.D. (for dummies.) That was.....A.D.D. (for dummies) if you missed it the first read-thru.

[:D]

I'll probably be labeled a heretic here.....but as pretty as HMS Victory is......I found this baby much more exciting to see and visit:

My favorite booze is what other people are stocking for me, Steve. [:D] I'm open to most tasty adult beverages, single malt Scotch or single malt Irish Whiskeys, blended Canadian whiskeys, Bourbon, Gin, Vodka...holy cow-I just realized that I'm an alky! [:D]

Since I'm your guest, it is customary for me to bring something that we can share accordingly. What are your and Lou's preferences, my good man?

I picked you up a little something in honor of your Birthday already. It's NOT a mantle-sized Yamato, although I did give that some thought. [:D]

I'd need a mantle. (My USS Constitution is in storage as a result .) [:(] Seriously, who makes a fireplace without a mantle? [&:](maybe for the bottom of a fish tank? With a couple of holes in it? [:D]

My bar is pretty well stocked (and seldom used) with lots of all of those libations (heck, I've even stocked Aquavites inclase "T" or Per show up). Yes, I have several Japanese libations for your alter ego (several Sakis, plum wine, Soju's and even Suntory single malt).

I can't think of a thing to bring , unless it's something related to you adopted home? [:)]

I'm moved Steve [:)]. I must take a serious look at next summer - can't let that Aquavite go old and moldy, can we [:'(]

... and I will also add an Happy Birthday to you!

You just turned 44, right? [;)]

Oh yes. Best summer for a long time. I've been hitchhiking in the mountains. Have had a good number of lazy days at the beach. Geocached a lot. Whiskey, beer, good food. Could almost count the number of clouds I've seen the entire summer on my fingers. [:)]

Going back to work tomorrow, but it will be a soft start. Have to pick up some books/movies to read/watch as we're apparentely going to Belfast/London for some COIN learning trip in two weeks, so my work for next week will be to catch up on the background [:'(][:D]

Victory is cool. And so is Constitution. But I'm like Don Bowen, I like the Babies best. Here's two tall ships I’ve sailed on in the last 15 years. Rated Master’s Mate. Really dug the Pilgrim, because she had an unusually sharp hull shape, having been originally designed and built for the slave trade in 1825. She was fast and could steer really small. A joy.

Replica of a Revolutionary War, schooner rigged, privateer, 118’ on main deck. Built by Dennis Holland off plans of a ‘Beverly’ schooner from the Smithsonian. Name (or even plan name) unknown.

Replica of the brig rigged Pilgrim, 98’ on main deck, described by R.H.Dana in ‘Two Years Before the Mast’.
