Hi all,

Poor Alex took a hard shot square in the grill in his last game of the season Saturday night. Later in the game, he was knocked over and hit the side of his head on the goal post. He came away with a mild concussion. CT scan shows no bleeding or swelling, but 4 days later he still has a severe headache and some nausea. Went to a neurology specialist in concussions this morning and he is not worried about any damage, only trying to get Alex to feel better and recover from the headache. Most likely, the concussion has triggered a migraine as well. Dr pulled Alex out of school for the rest of the week and started a strong migraine treatment for several days. No physical activity, no computer, video games, television, or even texting on his phone. Alex is pretty miserable, but his mom and I are extremely relieved that there is no permanent damage. Alex is feeling much better and talked us into letting him go to school today. He'd rather be there and doing schoolwork than being bored at home. [:D]

Mother had a PE last week and now they have thinned her blood too much and now she has some bleeding internally and spent most of the day with her taking her to various tests. Things are much better this evening, but it was a long day...

Viking Dude: I'm dyin' to know what the location was of your students' quiz. Anyplace we'd heard of from a historical perspective?
On a pseudo-political front: Does Sweden have any defense pacts with any Scandinavian neighbors or are they still quintessentially "neutral"? Anything further with the Nordic defense pact development since this?

Interesting to be watching the news about the Malaysian airline 777. Watching the news people butcher the names we have been butchering for years is slightly amusing in what is a terrible situation.

Interesting case... apparently the aircraft flew for hours after the transponders were out (manually or by some accident)...

Re: the quiz; No place you ever heard of [:)] I decided to go with a fictive scenario set within the northern parts of Sweden.
Re: defense pacts; Sweden doesn't have any defense pact. Sweden & Finland are basically still "neutral". The only thing the differing countrys politicians have managed to agree upon to some degree, is shared defense material development and procurement. They did this with the thought of getting material cheaper. So far, results have been the opposite.
I could easily write a 50 page answer on this, but I gotta restrain myself as I would only get choleric [;)]
Let me just say that Swedish defense politicians are about as short-sighted as you could get.

Well, it's Spring in Gulf Coast Alabama; it's 73 and the buds are out, the pollen is covering the cars, and life is good. Went to Billy's Seafood on Bayou Bon Secor to get some comestibles. A shrimp boat was in, unloading, so I wandered down the dock. "Yo Hey, got any fish in there?" "Only some groupers and rockfish off to the side." "Can I get some grouper?" "Hail yeah, if you gut it and clean it yosef." Got two nice 10 pound fish for $10.00 that would clean out to about 6-8 pounds of filets. A little work for a lot of goodness. Gosh, I love the Gulf Coast. JWE

Feeling a bit more relaxed about the civvy world now. I got a phonecall today to discuss a vacancy for a job I didn't actually apply for (and that I can't take for 18+ months). It's a start though, I just need to make some connections and I'll be ready to rock!
