I'm hoping that Nemo does this mod with AE "when" it comes out.

Have to agree, I like this mod, but am being outplayed by the creator... anyway, I still think some issues need to be addressed like more AA above 32000, there are only 3 units available or at least an upgrade option & other things...which I will allude to when it isn't 2:30 am.

Here is another stupid day and moves on my part ... About 600 planes lost today for both sides. Totals are
6363(J) V 5011(A). I've had 1444 in ops losses from having to move quickly and despite weather ... but I really should say most of this was early on, and I was throwing planes and pilots away like lollipops at a Doctors surgery. Also, 4000 of these losses have been in the last 50 turns (80 a day). I build 30 a day, so you do the maths of how my units are suffering. Partial withdrawal of air is on the cards in Malaysia / Thailand. Lcu's will have to take the burden until the Pacific is decided.

Tavoy is invaded by the Allies and all hell breaks loose as he trips my air force into action. Pity they didn't form up and take some escorts with them. Around Kodiac, it was more a case of "fools rush in" Vs impotence. I know I should have been more patient, ambushed Nemo some time later ... but I fear the cap bridge between Kodiac over the CV's, the CV's fighters over the TT's... hopping from Island to Island like this. Well so be it ...

It's getting mighty embarrassing ... I lost this war in the first 30 days by not combining my forces, now I'm almost too weak to.

[*] Tavoy was captured by the Allies today despite a huge airwar over the TF's. If I applied the lessons of Ye and Moulmein, I should have sent in the SCTF, pushed the TT offshore and then attacked by air. But this is not Ye nor Moulmein and the Allies have air superiority over the area. Sending my BB's would amount to suicide.
[*] My sweep by over Tavoy was unsuccessful in bagging a load of fighters and I basically lost more than 1:1 (and they were ground attacking according to the combat report!)

[*]8 LB attacks on the TT's at Tavoy were a failure despite escorting, resulting in the loss of much of my air force. Maybe I should have stacked all of them in one base, but doing this would just have resulted in Allied LB bombing me to oblivion, maybe before I even got off the field. On a bright note BB Royal Sovereign took a torp and is on fire.
[*]The losses are so severe I'm withdrawing most of my air force from Malaysia and Thailand. I need a month to rebuild.
[*]Despite the loss of many planes and pilots today and yesterday, my CV groups are my priority. I'm flying the zeros onto bases and disbanding divided groups into them. I produce about 11 Zero's a day, I have 20 in pool (been saving them) and 50 Naval pilots left, But I think the disbanding will be the way I want to proceed at present. I'm still formidable in the Nth, despite Nemo trying to bluff me.
[*] I've disbanded/withdrawn quite a few groups now, this is worrying as maybe I should have been loading them with inexperienced pilots and training ... but I'm even running short of LB trainers.
[*] Sending a small detachment to see if I can catch some damaged ships heading back to SF or the British CV's which must be coming toward the Aleutians.
[*] Fuel is at Attu now and I have 2 replenishment fleets getting pretty close to. Supplies are a bit of a problem, but they should arrive in 5 days.
[*] Tavoy being taken was inevitable, I hope to catch the Allies if they go for Victoria Point. At least I can move my SCTF in and out quickly.

28 June '42 Not all that much to report, I have replenished many of my CV's fighters by disbanding groups into them at Adak Is. I am thankful that the Allies leave this base alone at present.

The Allies approach Cold Bay in the Aleutian's, this is the first step for Nemo along the Archipelago. There are literally hundreds of ships, this is a tidal wave which I cannot possibly halt, but I will be nibbling at it along its Odyssey. And interestingly Nemo in his haste, has no fighter cover... is this to give me a chance ? I understand that he probably thought that I ran all my CV's to Adak, or is it just a show of bravado and muscle ?

[*] Suva finally falls after I brought down a Eng Reg a week ago to finally break the fort. This is a real sideline, but will help protect the Southern approaches.

Tomorrow looks like a rain out, but if the boys get some luck then who knows what damage can be done! Every AK/AP down is better for the total war effort and will allow me to keep going in the coming months. Apart from the CV's, I really want to destroy the Allies ability to move vast numbers of troops and supplies.

What do you have in the way of surface forces? Air power is going to damage a lot of ships, but it won't force him away from the landing beach.

A nice SAG group on the other hand might force him back out to sea, giving you much more time to plink away with your planes before he takes the base.

Point being if you leave his transports in the base, he will unload a mass of men and take the base, then do the same thing he did at YE e.g. being in roughly 1,000,000 fighters. So the longer you can keep him from taking the base, the longer your airpower can pick apart his ships.

you may notice TF 95 and 98 which I should have sent in last turn ... they are going full steam into the jaws of oblivion tomorrow. I have 160 AV at Cold Bay, but I expect the Allies to take this base in two/three days whatever I do. I know Nemo will not be leaving the kitchen sink behind, it is not his style.

Good luck; should be interesting. You gotta assume he brough his own SAGs, but with your air power softening them up first, might be a change for the IJN to do some serious damage.

I admit I'm not 100% familiar with this mod, but it's still only June '42. The allies shouldn't have built their surface combat power up that much yet, particularly with the loss of the 4 British battlewagons earlier. (I note a torpedo hit on BB Lion, however; that should help.)

Lightning shooting across the Bay takes on the intensity and shape of blood pumping through the mens veins. Another strike momentarily illuminates the pre-dawn Cold Bay skies and reveals the white caps of choppy seas and silhouetted hulks that menace offshore. The cold wind driven down from the Arctic hits the grim faces of the men manning the coastal guns, dawn is still hours away ... to a man they know they are about to die, but feverishly work like a piston engine about to seize up ... load ... flash ... recoil ... reset.

The range finders fumble with numb hands over their cold wet equipment as they peer out into the rain curtained grey, firing sporadically true into the dark beasts. Too little ... Too many ... even the rabid warriors amongst them, while harbouring the desire to die against such odds, think lovingly of their families and friends and silently and quietly hope for salvation. They have seen death in days past as B-17's hit their positions, and men who they knew for many years disappeared around chow time.

1000's of rounds are expended, but while fighting bravely it is a futile exercise.

Meanwhile on the shoreline other Japanese troops try to push back the wave of Allied troops flooding ashore like a tidal wave. Many Allied troops lie where they fell as the casualty rate rises into the high 1000's.

The crew of AP Mount Vernon have little time to react to the Torp fired by SS-I26.

Dawn finally breaks revealing the armada bobbing like tops on the rough seas. Sporadic attacks by limited numbers of Betty's and Sally's which have braved the gut wrenching conditions. Many just drop their bombs and torpedo's off mark to escape the cauldron of foam and fire. Even still, CL Achilles is hit with a bomb, BB New Mexico with 2 torpedos & BB Lion with a torpedo and bomb, as the amazed Sally & Betty crews see she is still afloat ...

A small number of Vals from Umnak hit AP Van Rees 3 times & AK Malama with 2 hits. While the zeros flung like seagulls in strong winds, circle needlessly as they learn later the LB raid today was on Umnak Is. The trap has failed and they must make their way back to their hazardous landing zone some 200 Km out to sea.

Finally the coastal guns are silenced momentarily as a cheer goes up that help has finally arrived. These cheers will become more muted as the day progresses and finally silenced as they see the pride of the Japanese Navy humbled, out gunned, numbered and driven away.

I know this game is lost ... I feel it in my bones and in my words, but I fight on relentlessly hoping that Nemo makes a mistake... which he doesn't often.
[*]CL Kasuga and CA Aoba both get hit by a torpedo today and they will sink tomorrow. I'm actually surprised they survived the round.
[*] All my ships head back to Adak Is. The weather is just too bad for any operations and I'm hoping that I can replenish and get the weather window in my favour for once. It seem to divide between Adak and Cold bay into 2 zones, and it would be nice to have rain in one and thunderstorms in another.
[*] My LRCAP of Umnak is a failure, as Nemo changes his tactics and send the LB in high.
[*] I had been amassing Angels near Japan for a long range strike but forgot to check on grp and they went and did little damage to his LB forces on the other side of the World.
[*] Thailand is becoming a mess as troops scramble up the Malayan Penn to fortify Bangkok. I doubt I can save it, but will valiantly try. His troops move on rollers, mine on sticky tar.
[*] The Soviet situation is salvageable, but I wonder about the movement and incredible fire power of the Soviets in the darkest days of '42. Hitler is knocking on the door and I would love to see the soviets having to withdraw some troops.
[*]Damn the weather ... Cold Bay is captured by 75000 troops on the second day of landings. My troops remain at the base, and have not surrendered but they are doomed to a prison in Alaskan Siberia.
[*]I should really give a damage report to the ships involved in the Surface combat ... but I'm feeling despondent and will wait until they hit port.

No one who plays Nemo should expect to win, especially with his own mod . . . a good showing is a moral victory.
But speaking of showings, what's the current score? Although you failed to break through to the transports, he took heavy losses in the surface battle, and considerable transport losses from airstrikes. Maybe you can get an auto-victory.

2 July '42
[*]The day starts badly with CA Takao & BB Fuso getting hit by a torp a piece from SS SHCH131 at Adak. This is despite ASW patrols by sea and air ...
[*] But after the crippling blow my air wing came into its own and hit SHCH133, 131, 135, 132 & Barracuda by Betty's which I changed to search mode for the turn.
[*]North Carolina is also reported HIT by a HK8 search plane.
[*]CA Aoba and CL Kasuga Maru are sunk heading for Dutch Harbor by a large force of planes out of Cold Bay ... this base is back to full strength after 1 day, those American engineers by sheer number have made this so.
[*] Shock attack 60 miles NW of Rahaeng sends my armour back to Rahaeng, which is a good thing as they were moving at 5 miles a day. Now I hope they can get some legs on and get back to Bangkok in time. Hopefully I will have 600+ AV there, or close by in a few days. The Hirohito Tank Div which just landed is moving quickly up the Malayan penn. to accompany the 2nd Div and RTA 3rd Div with the 5th being airlifted in.

The political points situation was 2.8:1 when Nemo took over, I have lost very little shipping since then, but my loss of men, bases and notably planes, have brought this down to 2.2:1 .

The weather is improving up North "somewhat" so we will see if I can get some luck next turn.

Your loss in pilots and planes are getting quickly to a tipping point, if you haven't reached it already. [:(] Nemo is one of the few players that can use attrition to his advantage regardless of which side he is playing. The Burma theater is worse that normal due to the Russian bug (your inability to launch attacks in Russia). From our part of the game, this was difficult to manage. Now, he has sent the hordes of Russians to Burma and it has cost you to lose air superiority there. Now he has thrown the Aleutians into the mix.  I worry about the quite area....Australia. He was left with significant forces there and has done nothing with them yet. [;)]

It looks like your CVs are still intact, so that is a good thing and where I would build back up first.

Keep your head up and look at this game now as a learning experience. Your going against a "Grand Master." [:D]

You pretty much have to assume he did the same thing here that he did in Ye, which is to say that there's probably already a substantial air force on Cold Bay.

Best recommendation may be to let him have it and fight him for the next step up the chain. Fighting him under his LBA umbrella is just playing to his strengths.

On the other hand, he probably can't afford very many more naval "victories" like he had at cold bay.

Too right Pat,
I've mostly decided to sit back now, although I feel I have really damaged him recently. If I had enough planes and pilots I'd press the advantage I think I have. Why? I think Nemo loaded many fighters onto his transports and they are repairing slowly... each day makes him a bit stronger and me a little weaker. Soon he will have 200 + fighters at Cold Bay (according to the mouse over), right now he caps about 100.

3 July '42
[*] SS barracuda gets a knocked about from an ASW patrol
[*] SS-32 sinks
[*] 86 Zero's and 72 Sally's trundle up to Cold Bay. 55 Zero's are destroyed and 14 Sally's, the Allies lose 32 planes. Why did you do this I hear? Well I had my CV's come on the northern approach for what I hoped was going to be 2 strikes against the Allies. It ended up only being one mid sized hit, and this LB strike was to disrupt his forces.
[*] Strike of the day... I had really wished to get into the transports or something more meaty, but Michael will hate that I have sunk the Boise. Note the Zero losses are much less than what could have been expected.

I know this may sound crazy, but what about an invasion of India?? It looks like he has everything down in Burma now. Instead of trying to slow him down head on, a few divisions here could throw him off his game.

Not so crazy Michael, I've been thinking along similar lines, although looking still at Australia...some time ago Nemo asked me about movements inside the shipping channel and interdiction. So either he moved troops from India to Australia or vice-versa. I'm making a hunch that because everything is in Burma now, he is moving everything there. Or Java is about to get hot very soon, but as I have CV's around so I doubt he wants to go the direct route. I'd still like to see if I can take Midway, just to have some revenge.

The 5th July was quiet again ... thankfully time to replenish my CV's at Adak, they are near 100%, so I've done a good job estimating the number of pilots / planes I needed. Also Adak is constantly being replenished and supplies are now 20K. All the fuel just got sucked dry but another TK TF is on the way.

A mouse over on Kodiac revealed his CV's disbanded ...if that is the case in 1 more day I'll have 150 Betty's set forth. Pity I didn't have them available today. Cold Bay shows 300+ fighters. OMG!

I know I should be finding avenues around Nemo, but the points of action are so hypnotic, I'm mesmerised. Honestly I have enough troops and transports to do some real damage given time, but am hamstrung by PP's.
