Hi CT,

There is a database issue with dutch subs not firing their deck guns because they are rated as AA.
Perhaps there's some morale check in surface battles on rounds fired vs rounds received or something. It must be bad for the morale of a submariner to be shot at but not being able to shoot back with that magnificent Bofors AA gun.

In short: perhaps the diving is caused by the database error having consequences in the battle algorithm.

my Dutch subs do fire their deck guns, there were incidents when they fired their whole AA gun ammo into freighters but usually they break off. Guess that db issue might habe been fixed in babes?

I am in early Feb '42 in IronMan Japan v5 (no DaBabes) and my Dutch subs are firing thier deck guns with regularity.

Ah then its fixed in DBB.

Playing scenario #1 myself and the dutch subs are _not_ firing their deck guns.

and here's the long promised strategic map... looking at it, it doesn't look as bad as it actually is (all those green dots in SOPAC are Allied dot bases left) because all of SOPAC is lost with Australia and New Zealand being cut off from the US West Coast... I still own Canton Island, Palmyra, Christmas Island, Johnston and Hawaii of course... next Allied controlled areas are New Zealand and Australia... [:D] within the SRA we have three strongholds left, Clark Field, Malang on Java and one base North of Medan on Sumatra...

What happened with the Hawaii Invasion?

Thanks CT, that's a pretty daunting perimeter for only the 2nd week of Feb! You seem to be taking it all in stride though.

Are you digging in to defend PM, or has the SOPAC push interfered with your usual Australia plans? It seems like he hasn't really caught much of value for all his effort, but maybe it's kept you from doing things you otherwise would have.

Seems like Port Hedland is step 1 to Darwin probably, which wouldn't be too surprising. Are you anticipating a further reach like Ceylon or maybe NZ? With scen 1 troops and how spread out he is I think he'd have to be crazy to go for India or Australia proper before your holdouts are reduced.

Actually his push into SOPAC hasn't really harmed me. Ok, I would have preferred to hold the line Noumea - Fiji - Pago Pago but in the end it will do more harm to him than me I guess as it forces me into changing my overall strategy so he could well see me driving a land death star into Burma in halve a year.

I would bet he goes for Darwin and he has troops marching over the Kokoda trail to attack PM but only two units are spotted so this seems to be rather light. He has battleships and cruisers at Koepang together with several convoys so he either is going for the Perth area or Darwin next. If I were him, I would take Darwin first to prevent further buildup, same for PM. PM and Darwin in Allied control could well turn out to be a bigger problem for him than his conquest of SOPAC is a problem for me.

I really don't think his troops are spread out just because he took all that area. He took a place, picked up the unit and moved on to take the next target. There were two divs operating in SOPAC, guess both are tasked to assault PM now, IIRC intel showed both prepping for PM. And else there were only small IJN units operating in SOPAC which are enough to take all the empty ground of course.

Ceylon I really don't care, NZ wouldn't change the strategic situation at all, I would lose a lot of points but I would gain a lot of first line NZ units as reinforcements so if this doesn't trigger autovictory for him then it actually won't do him any good at all as he would trade perm restricted crap NZ units with non restricted first line combat units. I doubt he'll go for India, his drive into the Indian Ocean had only one goal IMO, to cut off my shipping lanes from India to Australia which points also points towards my theory that Australia will be his main target.

this time the sub really suffers damage so no rant about breaking off (even though DAMAGE wasn't the reason for breaking off this time [8|])... what seems to be totally crazy though is that a sub doesn't carry enough ammo to harm even a small freighter... the troop carrying xAKL is hit by one and a halve dozen 88mm shells, isn't on fire, isn't heavily damaged... not a single torp was fired on the enemy ship... once again, I would have better been off with the enemy ESCORTING his troop convoy because then there would have been the chance to attack submerged and fire some torps... guess 3 out of 4 surface attacks against UNescorted convoys result in fails, which is worse than submerged attacks... never experienced this phenomena before because I never played someone who only uses escorts for a minority of his convoys but it obviously pays off for bluebook to NOT escort his convoys... omg...

moderately damaged and out of gun shells KXV retires...

we have spotted bombers from CV Akagi, Kaga and Soryu... Hiryu was spotted with some CVL/CVE in the Indian Ocean weeks ago and Shokaku is around Timor (surely together with Zuikaku)... obviously bluebook has completely dispersed KB... doubt that air attack was needed and it didn't do anything anyway but it reveals the carriers´ presence in the area... yeah, when I sent that USN unit together with the combat eng and cnst rgt to Tahiti I was not planning to lose the base but my opponent had different plans. I wanted to build up Tahiti to act as a fuel hub in SOPAC for convoys moving between Australia and the West Coast but that isn't necessary anymore now anyway. [:D]

What have the Japanese Air Ops losses and Flak losses been like recently? I'm surprised at the number of Japanese planes that are being reported damaged in their attacks on the Philippine bases and I would expect that he must be losing a dozen or so each turn.

these "damages" are only FOW, nearly none are damaged despite me having had all base forces with replacements on filling them with flak. The units are all 60+ disrupted as the enemy flies day after day after day and while my ground troops can't recover from this, it's no problem to fly day after day after day. Hence all those discussion going for years already to tone this down, without effect in the end. I bet from three months of daily bombing with hundreds of bombers over the Philipines the enemy has not lost more than one or two dozen bombers with one dozen lost to flak at best. He has always been flying at 11.000ft IIRC.

Leaving those base forces replacement on was a big mistake because now that they have a lot of flak guns, they blast through roughly 700 supplies a day. Not the bombing causes me trouble, it's the AA firing out my supply for no effect. Will never do this again and should have sent out my AA and base forces on suicide missions. Then my supply would last until 43 without any problem and the use of my fleet subs could leave me with supplies for even halve a year longer. But as it is now, AA has eaten up literally all of my supplies. The game being ahead of the AAR I have moved all my flak from Clark to Bataan and while the bombings "caused" the loss of 800 supplies at Clark per day, without the flak there I am now losing 100 supplies a day which is nothing I would really care. But it's too late of course and you can't order your flak not to shoot.
