Yes it is, Magwe is a highly operational, level 7, with 3rd Air Div HQa and several other base force LCUs; there are already a few Nells operating there (doing naval search). I was reluctant to put them on naval strike because of the very likely chance of CAP traps.


More will move to Rangoon and Magwe next turn, I have 3 squadrons in the DEI that can reach it

It is hard to say if he will withdraw, it will definitively be the advisable decision, as you said, he can now expect LBAs in force, however, he has been very aggressive in past operations, he might decide that the losses are acceptable if he can sink mini-KB.

We will see; there is only one obvious place for Japan to run to, and it is Rangoon. Running at maximum speed means mini-KB will be one or two hexes away from Rangoon. Any attempt to intercept will put the enemy within short range on both Magwe L7 (100+ torpedo carrying Netties, 100+ fighters)
and Rangoon L5 (100+ army bombers doing low 100 feet nav bombing and fighters).


I have been lucky, In other conditions (less rain), I would had lost probably all CVLs; something to think about...

Strategically speaking, I just lost the Bay of Bengal, mini KB is completely out, the 2 British fleet carriers are also very likely out, considering they are needed in Europe and they will need to repair some damage. (EDIT: withdrawal dates are in July and September. Indomitable is gone after repair, Formidable might be repaired for another show before it leaves)

That leaves Hornet in complete command of the sea. He doesn't even need to recover his losses; he can made them up by simply rebasing some of the British squadrons while the worst hit dive bombers recover.
I have CV Junyo somewhere near Takao, moving to Singapore, but it will be used defensively only, there is no way I can challenge him with so little firepower.

There is of course, the possibility of sending a carrier division; even the smallest one (Hiryu + Soryu) can take care of Hornet, but I am not convinced it will be a good idea, as I have very little designs for India, other than defending Burma.
But I don't know yet, I need to think about it, maybe I can see who is near refit and send it to refit somewhere nearby like Hong Kong. then if I need to go nuts in the Indian Ocean I can postpone the upgrade

Mini KB was not disturbed, it will reach Rangoon tomorrow, to refuel, rearm and replenish pilots/ airframes

In the meantime, I am starting to see the consequences of Allied (temporary) supremacy in the Bay of Bengal; with a bombardment TF arriving at Cox's Bazaar. Only good news is that CL Newcastle got hit by MTB's torpedoes.

jwolf is right - that's a lot of Allied combat power in one place. Anyway you could take advantage of it, or are you firmly on the strategic defensive now? NE Aus? SW OZ - Exmouth/Carnavan? Ceylon? Airdrop to cut off/take Ledo?

Some risk, but at this stage you can still provide overwhelming combat power and gain air supremacy with the KB and BB Fleet at a single point.

I did an airdrop weeks ago, it achieved "rail disruption" for a long time, but somehow he keep moving supply to support 115K troops as if nothing had occurred. This while Japan has significant problems supplying a much smaller army with plenty of amphibious TFs unloading at Akyab/ Cox's

As you can see there is quite a lot of enemy units all over East Bengal, smaller LCUs for sure, but still more than capable to deal with paras.

I am not too worried as I have 3 "intact" Divisions in the theater, plus another one in transport TF transiting to Rangoon (another one in reserve at Soerabaja, recovering old wounds). The main priority would be to consolidate in Burma, not only with the army, but more important, with fighter interceptors to make it very costly to attack Magwe.
With DBB-C and PDU OFF, this is a lot more difficult: not enough engineers, too many "Oscars". But in all, with a little more time, I will have it ready: Magwe is almost level 8



4th, Imperial and 2nd will move out to Singapore, Hong Kong and Batavia for recovery.
33rd will defend Kalemyo, 48th Cox's, 14th will move to Burma after mopping up some enemy leftovers
38th is in transit to Rangoon

8th is at Pt Moresby, 5th at PagoPago, 18th and 20th at Rabaul (the later just arrived, will redeploy to New Caledonia)

21st an 16th are at Soerabaja, almost completely recovered

NE Australia is where all Marine and USA divisions are, Ceylon needs KB and I think it is not strategic enough to risk the KB
Exmouth Carvavan are possibilities, but modest in scope
I am also thinking on Norfolk island. Overall I will remain on the defensive, with some minor offensive operations/ limited objectives

Pretty much the entire British empire... but there are no USA divisions, no Marines

And he is far from intact, attrition was heavy for both of us. This is the 3rd attempt to lift the siege, the first and second ended in heavy Allied losses... And of course, I can build more devices, he is restricted to whatever replacement rates he can get (low for British)

That said I should not push my luck, TFs are withdrawing now... and by the way, this careless deployment was because I wanted heavy cover for the withdrawal of 4th Division, I had it and Imperial Guards beaten/ in need of refit. Imperial Guards are already in Singapore, 4th Division is all embarked in TFs.. I guess I could had sent it by land to Rangoo, but it was going to take way too long

By the way, he launched pretty much everything... lots of aircraft down, getting more and more worried with the Zero A6M2 (lack of) inventories.. as I am still weeks to get a full A6M3 production. A6M2 is at only 60x month

I have 75 pilots in TRACOM... I was expecting more of them [8|] no more sake!
