Yup so my guess is timor is safe until you decide to push through a proper convoy with a decent assault force escorted by BB's etc going after a few transports just aint worth the risk at the moment....

Couple of turns have passed with missing combat returns.

A few AK's have been sunk as they retreat from Java but all else is quiet.

A final headcount is in the Allies saved 60,000 men from Java mostly non combat troops.

These are now recovering in North Australia and selected units will be brought back up to strength.

Some will be used for the defence of Timor which given the amount of LBA in northern Australia should be possible some for rear area garisons in Australia freeing up combat troops for the New Guinea campaign.

My expectation is a major Japanese thrust in New Guinea and an attack on Burma over then next few weeks.

Beyond that I have no idea as to Japanese intentions but whatever they do the Allies will be ready.

I have lost many good ships and even more good men but in doing so we have bought valuable time for the allies to dig in and get ready.

New Japanese plans have been laid. I don't think you will like them, Andy. In fact I'm sending you the replay right now, it contains some bad news I'm afraid...

Allied air commanders suffered a huge blow today.

The shoe was most definitely on the other foot as the IJN Naval Bombers caught the Heavies at Rangoon on the ground and blew the shit out of them.

It is only now that one of the issues re the defence of Java arises.

All of my long range fighters were committe to Java and they got out to Australia.

The only way to transfer these aircraft to India where they are needed is to ship them and I know KB is gonna be waiting for em so thats a no no.

Having just parried another IJN thrust at Burma I have to acknowledge that Burma will be indefensible if to many Japanese Divisions are still in reasonable shape after the Java battles.

After yesterdays heavy raid on Rangoon Allied GHQ rushed every dammed fighter they had to Rangoon to kick the crap out of the Japanese as they came over....

And what happened .... the Japanese stayed at home.

Nada

OK China is looking fairly quiet more or less because the Japanese have everything they need and basically are able to neutralise the Chinese from the air. I may be misreading Japanese intentions but I dont think so.

Burma will be under heavy attack soon

Australia - secure
India secure
USA secure
PH secure
LOC to SOPAC getting secure

Areas of action for the next few weeks are expected to be New Guinea/ Timor and Burma

He will probably hit all three and try and annoy me at Midway.

The only other places where he may try something are New Zealand and New Caledonia.

I expect Midway New Cal and NZ to be feints to try and draw my remaining CV's into a fight as Sveint knows that if I lose the CV's I have its a long wait until Mid 43 before I can go on the offensive.

Following identification of the clear and present threat posed to the security of India which intel reports may be the next target of Japanese aggression several steps have been authorised.

3rd Indian Corps (Alexander)
18th Division
2nd Division
7th Armoured Brigade
with corps artillary and base troop support under command will take responsability for Madras to Bombay

A new corps will be formed with responsability for Chandpur/ Calcutta - Madras

A commander will be appointed when a corps HQ can be summoned from Syria

At present

15th Indian Corps (Un named)
5th Indian Division
17th Indian Division
14th Indian Division
255th Armoured Bde
(Until 14th / 17th Indian is brought up to strength the balance of the Corps Infantry will be made up by independent Indian Infantry Bdes or via 2 Chinese Divisions donated by Chiang on the understanding that after they are equipped he gets them back)
plus various artillary and base units.

Further coastal defence troops under direct command of SEAC until 12th Army is formed consisting of various Brigade and Bn sized formations to ensure that every major base in India has a garrison according to its importance.

Burma Corps will have responsability for Rangoon Mandalay the Burma road and Imphal Kohima and surrounding area.

This huge area of operation will require a skilled commander and should really be an army command but at present no spare armies can be formed as the need for Corps HQ's over rides this.

In Northern India the NW Frontier command has responsability for watching the Himalayas and securing Karachi.

Under command is the ready reserve for Iraq Persia Command

254th Armoured Brigade
3 Chindit Bdes are currently forming up and at least on British Bde will also be available to support this command.

Anyway thats the plan for India

Getting more of my own medicine at Rangoon.

Unless I am willing to send more of the RAF into a fight for Rangoon I need to declare the place un sustainable.

I did it to the IJN at Bangkok so I have to take it now ;)

But only one sqn of bombers and they all missed.

More pain at Rangoon.

I sent in two sqns of spits last turn to try and hold on they got chewed up so 223 Gp has withdrawn fighter cover from Rangoon.

All bomber gps are being withdrawn as available

23rd June 1942

All allied bases in southern Burma within reach of "Betty" Force are deemed off limits to allied heavies.

The repair rates are to slow and to be honest trying to hold onto southern Burma despite the blood already shed holding on is probably not worth it.

SW Pac is quiet as is Northern Australia.

I am betting that the IJA are still recovering before the next offensive.

I spot 67 Aircraft in port at Singapore but it is to far for a raid I dont think he is mad enought to try a June grab for India but I have to admit I am worried enough to be preparing on the assumption that he is.

All coastal bases garrisoned and rush jobs being done on those coastal cities not already at 9 Forts.

The RAF 223 Gp and 224 Gp and the US 10th Airforce quietly prepare and train pilot just in case.

Allied intel has lost track of the Enemy CV's but they may be recovering in Singapore.

They are due a refit soon so if he goeson the defensive they will dissappear for a while.

If not they will appear in the Bay of Bengal or in SW / SOPAC area of operation.

And yet another quiet turn not even worth posting the combat return.

Some Sonia's Divebombed Rangoon unfortunately my AA was waiting for them.

My gunners clain to have shot down 20 of them.

(I have a LOT of units incl AA at Rangoon so the Sonias were divebombing un suppressed air defences)

Overall quiet day as the Japanese get ready for the next operations and the Allies wait for the storm.

The one lesson I have emphatically learned in all of my games is to Wait as the Allies and not try to attack to early.

In every game I have going I have lost 1 - 4 Allied CV's in 42 and in every game I just wish I had been more patient.

Well the lesson has <FINALLY> got through Wildcats v Zeros = No No in early 42.

The main thing I regret is not the points or the ships its the enforced delay.

I could be launching attacks under LBA cover in late 42 early 43 but by losing all my CV's early I end up waiting for the Essex class ships before doing anything.

I dont think I have lost it just means I need to concentrate force for every operation there after.

And all is quiet yet again.

An attempted attack on Koepang was stopped cold by the IJA defenders.

Why the general ordered this attack I have no idea at least it was supported by air but still a tad foolish 600 dead men not a good result.....

Forgot to mention I sent a little bombardment go to pound Koepang.

Fuel is a real problem in Aus at the moment I just cannot keep the gas guzzlers going so they will need to withdraw soon.

Overall I am reasonably content with the way this war has went so far.

My defence of Java cost me a lot of points but two weeks after the end of resistance on Java the IJA still has not made an offensive move we are now at the end of June 1942 and overall I am happy that short of a 10 Divisional Mass arriving at Karachi or Sydney there isnt much the IJA can do that will really hurt me that much.

New Cal/ Suva is heavily garrisoned with plentifull air.
Northern Aus and PM have strong garrisons and air (the Java Army remnants is rebuilding in Northern Aus that gives me c 1000 AV which gets stronger every day that passes and with vast quantities of Engineers my Forts and defences are climbing steadily)
3 Corps and 4 Corps in India are strong and held back from the beaches to crush any invasion attempt in India and I get a further 2 Divisonal equivalents in the next 30 days GHQ London is sending me 70th Infantry Division although on light establishment.
Cent Pac is a little weak but not really a major target for Japanese as the reinforcements have already arrived in Australia. There really is limited point in siezing Canton or Johnstone at this stage as I will just isolate and crush in 43.
China may be a pronblem but I would hope to sit back now and defend.

Overall Allied planners using the crystal ball see limited course of action open to the Japanese.

A. Invade Timor
B. Invade PM to secure New Guinea
C. Take Midway
D. Secure Burma
E. Seize a Cent Pac Island

All of these are real possibilites and counter measures are being planned for each but when you get right down to it I dont view any of them as critical.

I need to husband my resources for 43 and none of the above would make me want to risk disaster.

On the other hands there are things the IJ could do that would force me to commit.

1. Suva
2. New Cal
3. India - Calcutta option
4. India - Madras Option
5. India - Karachi Option
6. Australia - North
7. Australia - East
8. Australia - South
9. NZ
10. Pearl Harbour

If Sveint is going decisisve on me to force a fight he will do one of these.

1 or 2 are likely as it turns it into a naval battle.

3/4/5/6/7/8 I think are all unlikely as it will allow me to use forces that are otherwise dormant (Aus Militia Divisions/ UK and Indian Divisions that I lack sealift for)

I am preparing on the assumption that he will actually try 3 - 8 but I suspect he will not.

9 Is a real possibility especially in conjunction with 1 and 2 if he is going for an autovictory

10 I think is a non starter at this stage.

Anyway thats my overview of target.

A - E he will definitely do
1 - 10 he might do.

Of courese there is another option open to the Japanese and that is I have my resources and perimeter lets shut up shop and start fortifying. If he goes down this route the next 6 months will be quiet as I aint coming out to play until I get Corsairs and Essex class CV's

I forgot to mention the one reason I can see for Sveint to try India or Australia and this cannot be discounted is that he has 10 Battle Hardened Divisions on Java he may be tempted to go North or South anyway just to give me a fright.

Unfortunately I cannot get creative at the moment as I need to honour that potential threat.

Japanese plans are to win the war. I'm not looking at Victory Points and never will.

Just the help Allied suspense:

I will not do all of A to E.
I will do some of 1 to 10.

Dear Allied Commander,

Things are not looking good for the Allies. Do you wish to surrender? You can keep America; we will graciously settle for India and Australia.

2nd July 1942

From Allied Commander Pacific and South East Asia Theatre

To Admiral Sveint

In answer to your kind offer may I make a response on behalf of the Allied Powers.

You can stick your offer where the sun don't shine

Kind Regards

Andy

Despite my response above Timors days are numbered as a massive IJN fleet drops a few thousand troops on Timor so I expect the last Allied base in DEI to fall in a day with 10,000 more men captured.

Add to the fact that I forgot to order all heavy bombers to stand down and so they will run into IJN fighters and I do not want to watch the next turn.

Overall fianlly losing the last of the DEI is not that bad in July 42.

I had really hoped to take it into August but it was not to be.

Andy
