Cap, was'nt there an admiral with a German name, who went overboard, too?
I remember such a character you portrayed in another universe of your AARs.
Or was he the one being famous for his bad luck always to be onboard the ship being destined to sink (but he always survived only to reappear on a different ship - soon to be also sunk...)??[:D][:D][:D]

The sinking Admiral sounds like Louis Mountbatten, only it took him three tries to get HMS Kelly sunk. Mountbatten was not an Admiral at the time.

And of course Admiral Kondo leading the Central force SCTF at Leyte Gulf had CA Atago sunk from under him. but he boarded Yamato instead of Musashi so he missed the second chance at sinking.

Some guys seem to have all the bad luck...But I think it wasn't Kurita, not Kondo, who did some swimming in Sulu Sea.[;)]

Ditto Mindanao. Everyone is ordered to stay on the ground. It works, but this is not a good strategy going forward, of course. RAF, US AAF, RCAF...everyone is out of replacement aircraft. It will be up to the AAA gunners for a while. This will start eating up our supplies but it can't be helped. The combat replay from yesterday shows an entire fresh Jap Tank Regt reduced to 0 AV in one attack. Two other tank regiments are nearly wrecked. Our Stuarts are taking it in the shorts to some degree but the M-10's are just eating the Ronsons alive at Clark..

Timor and New Guinea: It was pretty obvious from the movement of LYB planes to Kendari that somebody was going to get flattened so we got out all the A/C we could out of Koepang.
