Went to see the doctor today. Surgery was discussed; apparently it would be more involved than I thought, and would have a comparatively low chance of a positive outcome. So, physical therapy, industrial strength painkillers and patience. That last bit is wearing thin.
Well, that sucks. No quick surgical solution? When does the PT start in earnest?

PT has started in earnest. The initial goal is to relieve the pressure on the lumbar nerves by dedicated exercizes. They hurt like hell, but I *think* they're working as advertised.

I’m very sorry to hear about your pain, my friend. Believe me I can understand. I have had spondylitic arthritis in my L2 and L3 for about 20 years, maybe. My L2 pad no longer exists, and L3 is going the same way.

To get technical, the cauda equina (the nerve bundles) run inside the spinal process (bones). The pain you feel is the Anulus fibrous Invertebral disc material (of your spinal discs), pressing against your spinal nerve bundles. Yes, that’s a mouthful, but that’s what’s happening.

Doctors cannot treat it. As you say, the risks are worse than the benefits. I lived through the hard parts, and now have episodes once every two years, for about a week.

I’m training my body to account for my lower back issues. Lots of good things out there. Be glad to talk to you about them Ciao. John

My pain is primarily in the L5 nerve, which is impinged, and the L4 nerve, which is displaced. I've got quite a long road ahead of me, going by what my physio and doctor say.

Well, I can certainly feel your pain, my friend. I wish you nothing but the best. John.

Good Friday Evening Folks. Kentucky Derby is tomorrow. Today was the Oaks, the three year old fillies ran for the lilies (and I haven't a clue what horse won). All Louisville seems to go nuts. Schools are closed and businesses shut down. While the Derby is an international event (airport is clogged with private jets of the rich & famous), today is the city's day to party at Churchill Downs.

So, what's a guy to do when his boss tells him to go home at noon? After walking the dog one nautical mile around the neighborhood, I settled down and kicked out three turns against the AI on WITP. It's Jan 24th, 1943 and I just upgraded my first Marine squadron to F4U-1 Corsairs...... (this game is great)

Tomorrow the guys (who don't seem interested in the ponies) will come over and run trains on the basement layout.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Had forgotten that the first of the Essex-class replacements for the pre-war USN carriers that I lost in my war with the Penguin will arrive in less three weeks. I'll have a full 2CV+2CVL carrier group to cover the Tarawa assault.

What are you going to name it?
