Italy finds in the Italian Coast (4-8). Use two points to eliminate the AA, and two points to increase the damage done.

One CW CA is damaged. I place the first A on it for you.

The second A goes to HMS Birmingham.

Combat result is one CA damaged and aborted. Axis stay. Does Allies stay?

Abort zone. All to Gibraltar.

Axis attempts to intercept in the Western Mediterranean, and finds. The Allied force there finds as well. So a new major action is about to begin (Axis 3, Allies 2).

Since you are not in front pf the game I should have asked if you preferred another abort port to avoid the interception. I am asking now instead. Could you, please, send the aborting ships to Malta, or perhaps Tripoli instead? Then we could ignore this altogether.
