Unlike Spock, I assume all logic will be cast aside? Will you have an equal say in determining furnishings purchased, Bruce or are you just 'window dressing' for the decision? [;)]

Belly up: Did Japan airlines co-pilot accidentally fly aircraft upside down by pressing the wrong button?

A Japanese airline says one of its jets nose-dived and rolled almost upside down earlier this month because the co-pilot hit the wrong controls while trying to open the cockpit door so the captain could return from a restroom break.
Two flight attendants were slightly hurt and four passengers got airsick when the All Nippon Airways Boeing 737-700 with 117 people aboard descended sharply, veered off course and went belly up over the Pacific on its way from southern Japan to Tokyo on September 6.
ANA said yesterday that the co-pilot is believed to have mistakenly hit the rudder controls instead of the door lock to allow the pilot back in the cockpit.
It said the crew managed to stabilise the plane after the co-pilot's error and land it safely.
Japan's Transport Safety Board is investigating.
A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority told MailOnline that there could have been other factors involved in the drama as the banking of an aircraft is actually controlled by foot pedals.
He reassured passengers that airliners can roll heavily and safely, but don't normally rotate more than five degrees 'for the sake of stopping passengers' drinks from spilling'.
He said: 'The angles of bank that most airliners use are very small so that passengers don’t experience any discomfort, but the aircraft can structurally handle much more and have to go through a full certification process before they enter service with ground and air testing.'

Just as a side note here, I generally follow instructions and keep my seatbelt fastener during flight. I mean the plane is going 500 mph and is usually in excess of 30000 feet in altitude[:D]

That's truly bizzare! Commercial aircraft are on auto pilot something like 95% of the time. [&:]
Those sort of manevers can seriously hurt someone. I've had many a bruise from being slammed into the bulkhead or pinned to the overhead (before anyone says anything, part of my duties REQUIRED me to be moving around the cabin. When in my station I always losely buckled my seat belt ---sometimes even my shoulder harness!). I know a pilot who broke his back in such an incident , and a flight engineer who was largely crippled. I'd imagine there will be some serious investigations into this incident.
And while airplanes MAY be able to handle such stresses , human beings aren't! [:(]

And it begins. Tomorrow is the start of the college hockey. UND vs. Regina in exhibition play. And next Weekend UND hosts the Ice Breaker Tournament; with Air Force, Boston College and Michigan State. That'll be about 6 hours a day at the arena. Well at least I'm not furniture shopping.[:D][;)]

Salmon Days 2011 this weekend in Issaquah WA. Used too be and hopefully will remain one of my favorite festivals. Unfortunately in addition to a chance of showers....there's a chance of Ex with replacement boyfriend as well. Hopefully neither will occur.

Clear beautiful morning, and the sun is just starting to touch the tops of the Southern Alps to the west.
But heavy rain is forecast for later today, just in time to wash the last of the winter snow off the local mountains.

Pffft. I'm normally asleep by the time the fasten seatbelt sign comes on [:D] If it's a good trip then I'll be stretched out across a row of seats snugged up in my sleeping bag.
Theoretically, if the aircraft was rolled at exactly 1G you'd never know unless you were looking out of your window. Having said that, it's not going to be good for a lot of the systems which won't be designed to function whilst inverted. The VC-10 CSDU oil system for the generators can function inverted, just a shame that nothing else on the engine would...

Just saw where Legoland in Central Florida opens up on October 15th. It is on the sight of the old Cypress Gardens. Sigh, another piece of Florida history gone.
bummer...i have fond childhood memories of Cypress Gardens...and the St. Johns river and Wachaiva (sp?) Springs...<sigh>...certain parts of Florida really are beautiful...too bad unbridled developing is destroying much of it...<another sigh>
