Huge Bump. Moved from development forums to illustrate how the game was playing in October. I have not edited any of the comments.

So what changed since October?

Glancing very casually over some of the winter screenshots it appears his (Soviet) CV strenghts shown on the counters are pretty much in line with what I saw in my games and other people AARs. It appears that he could have made attacks as devastating as were described on the board, but apparently he didn't, for some reason. He appears to be pretty timid in his attacks.

Obviously this is very superficial analysis, based solely on casual glance over NUMBERS on the counters, and we know numbers on the counters are only a rough guide. Only you and Trey can describe what really happened. Would be good for Trey to chime in and describe whether he thinks attacks were as timid as they seem to me? The power to deliver much more devastating assaults seems to be there (based, again, solely on numbers on the counters).

Trey is away on business until the weekend, so may not respond straight away.

I would like to think that because I attacked non-stop I disrupted his attack plans - the attacks in front of Voronezh routed a ton of units, which would take a few turns to sort out.

Entrenchment was slightly faster in this version, but I was making maximum use of rule 15.3.2.2 as noted in the survival guide.

Movement attrition rules came after this version so I have 1000 more tanks than I should, but the tanks were mostly out of the line.

The focus for me is figuring out how I had the same OOB number as Speedy - 2.15 million, but Speedy has 3k fewer rifle squads, which crippled his defence.

Morale and experience were also better in this game.

Very interesting. The German infantry CVs certainly did not do the immediate faceplant they do now.

Yes, definitely a clue as to how different v1.03 games were looking. Morale, experience and the armaments bug reducing rifle squad numbers, the most likely cause for the difference (not confirmed by testing yet).

I also noticed that you made a lot of static units....at least most of 16th army seemed so. Did you find that helpful?

Because I used HQ Build up my truck numbers got quite tight, and it also helped get the entrenchments up to Lvl4.

Oooo....helped entrenchments? Is that a rule I've missed?

With the current winter setup, I'd be worried about losing them all. They couldn't escape from being flanked and there's little hope of holding against a Soviet attack currently. Maybe with a CV situation more like yours which seemed more gradual due mostly to attrition, it could be useful.

It's only 10% bonus when in static mode.

If they are backed up with linebackers they should avoid being outflanked, and static units can always move 1 hex - even from ZOC to ZOC, and of course if they are retreated they get the MPs back for free.

Wouldn't they be dead against cav? I guess I'm really due to play the Soviets some at this point. I'm far too unfamiliar with their abilities.

It costs 5mps to enter an enemy ZOC in blizzard, and 6 if they have to leave a zoc. You are only in trouble if the second hex row doesn't have ZOC coverage, which is the next best option if you can't put linebacker units into the second line. If the Cavalry has to fight for the second hex they are unlikely to have enough Mps to move into the third hex row. I did manage to achieve a cavalry breakthrough by the 5th turn of Blizzard against Speedy, but the other bugs had already crippled his defence.

No kidding. In my game again the AI, I had almost the same line as BigA. In the north, just south of the Finns I had units that were heavily dug in and weren't getting attacked, but were still getting demolished. By the beginning of January, instead of the 3 to 5 CVs I see in his shots in that area, units out in the open were 1 to 2.
