Blimey - 12 years on and Matrix is still there, or here.

Well done. I have many games even though I don't play much.

I did have some trouble getting Napoleon's Campaigns and Birth of America to work on one Windows 11 Pro PC (curiously they work on another of almost identical make and specification so no need to resolve. And and Intel drivers update made John Tillers Campaign Series work for me after blank screen issues.

I hope the wargame community thrives - if more people played wargames the politicians might not make so many mistakes.

Anybody know if Frank Hunter is still working on Campaigns on the Danube ?

I don't remember when I discover Matrix Games nor with which game.
I think it was SSG's Battlefront game.

Since then, I want to thank Matrix for all the great games I play.

I did not read the whole thread just the last page. The comparison between Pac Man and War in the Pacific is interesting.
Personally, I am a huge fan of Gary Grigsby's World at War: A World Divided.

This game has not every detail on the P-51D Mustang nor the length of the PzIV barrel, but it captures the feel of logistics, why the Battle of Atlantic was so important. The same goes for Lend-Lease to Russia.

Grand strategy is my way to go now. I also play War in the East 2 but I prefer simpler, hard to master, game.

I am also a board gamer. Liking games from Mark Herman, Michael Rinella, Carl Paradis, Volko Ruhnke, Emanuele Santandrea, Ted Raicer. These guys are genious to me.

And I love maps. As such, I prefer area control games to hexes that distort everything. Listening an interview of Michael Rinella, I think he has the same love for maps. Alas, hexagons are king.

The good news is, today, you have all the free tools you need to make your dream come true. Blender, Inkscape, QGIS, Godot, C#. Maybe one day...

I remember exactly when I bought my first Matrix Games: it was in july 2005 and it was World at War! (Then AWD)

At that time, It was mostly over to play Axis & Allies with my group of friends, so I was looking for something similar on PC. Not only I found it, but it had the deepness that was missing in AA (you just named a few). Grand Strategy area control has always been my thing, although the last 15 years, I mostly played tactical wargames (command ops, panzer battles, squad battles are my favorites ones. Returning also to grand strategy with Fields of Glory Kingdoms/Medieval (a cool way to mix strategy and tactics)

And as you know it, returning to WaW:AWD. If I had to bring one game on a desert island it would be this one!

Same. And not just wargames: regularly playing Fury of Dracula and High frontier 4 all. I also own, but on the waiting shelf, Ruhnke’s Inferno (levy & campaign), Bayonets & Tomahawks, Fields of Fire Deluxe Ed.

Long time I didn’t read any news about 2x3. Wondering if they’re working on new stuff apart patching WiE2… Have they retired?
