Subs - another day of frustration as SS Skipjack finds a big xAP 4 north of Darwin, she fires ALL her torpedoes and gets NO explosions!! [:@] [:@]

China - Changsha hit hard; sweeps over Hengyang; light bombing of Kukong and NE of Chuhsien;

Australia - 16 Vindicators miss the 3 DD TF 3 WNW of Adelaide in AM phase, but get two bomb hits on one DD in PM phase; 80 bombers from KB find my ARDs that were already at sea when this all started to NW of Ceduna; 2 AVPs are sunk at Carnarvon by Betty from Broome; in PM phase another part of KB hits Esperance again;

SW map corner - I should know from all my years of knowing John, that no part of the map is off limits from his raids to satisfy his thirst of Allied shipping. [X(] I should see TFs off of Port Stanley in the months ahead.

If you noticed, there are 39 Aux at Pearl which means lots of patrol planes on NavS. I have my carriers scattered all over...

Damaged Lexington and CVL Jacksonville in South Ocean headed for Melbourne.
Damaged Saratoga at Alameda for another 3 weeks.
CV Enterprise at Cape Town.
CV Hornet, Yorktown, and CVL King's Mountain leaving Gulf of Alaska for San Fran.
CV Wasp (Yorktown Class in this mod) arriving in Panama in less than 3 weeks.

I've gone against my SOP of forming my Allied "Death Star" playing John of massing all my carriers from every nation and paid the price. No longer will I do this. [:-] Port Stanley is going to be a very, very busy base in the coming months as massive troops, ships, supplies, and fuel head there.

More signs that Western Australia is next for John. I have troops at some of the base already going over to "Strat Mode" to run away from the five divisions Intel Reports says are prepping for Geraldton, Albany, and Carvarvon.

May 19:
The long awaited invasion of Cold Bay is conducted by Karafuto Mix Bde and 2nd China Assault Division (AD); The pre-invasion bombardment is conducted by BB Hitachi, Owari, Mutsu, Nagato, CL Yubari, and 12 DDs. Within the Amphib TF is BB Ise, Yamashiro, Fuso. Over 100 fighters are 3 hexes away at Akutan to provide LRCAP and escorts for over 40 bombers. Of course my subs are unable to hit any of these ships. [:(]

To the ends of the Earth must John go. [:D] BC Ishitaka & Kawachi along with 3 DDs are all the way in the SW corner chasing down the damaged 2 TKs & 2 DDs at (4,171).

China - Changsha bombed, Hengyang swept, outside Chuhsien the Wenchow survives are bombed, and nuisance raid at Kukong.

Intel - 23 Ind Eng Rgt to Port Hedland; 5th ID prepping for Albany; Imp Gds for Geraldton

KB at 10 SSE of Esperance headed west

May 20:
Cold Bay - landings continue and my subs continue their exercise in futility. [:D] I have subs on patrol from here back to Adak and NONE are able to gets hits. Rather, they get a depth charge hit and head back to Seattle for permanent repairs and R&R. Cannot wait to '43 to start to whittling down his fleet.

China - Changsha is hit the hardest.

Carnarvon - Betty from Broome continue to hit the empty port.

Intel - 38th ID prepping for and loading for Carnarvon. 21/A ID prepping for Geraldton

KB at 50,161 (8 south Albany)

Notes:
Western Australia - as soon as KB gets far enough away, any ships I have at Perth, Albany, and Esperance will have "Coastal" settings all the way to Melbourne.

Intel - 48th ID prepping for Nadi

May 22:
Subs - 3 of 4 attacks either don't hit anything or are duds [:(]

China - mainly Changsha with minor bombing attacks at Kukong and out Chuhsien

Cold Bay - another ground bb attack 370:110

KB - 13 west of Albany

Intel - 33rd ID to Darwin

Notes:
Force Z reached Sale, Australia (3 SE of Melbourne).
Moved one of my ASW trained Hudson III (LR) to Melbourne. I like this plane for ASW duty due to her range. They will do this for a few days to ensure no subs are lurking. I want John to have to guess somewhat where my ships are at.

Screen Shot - the subs south of Albany came from Pearl via San Fran to Sydney to here. Taking up station for eventual invasion of Albany.

IMO allied should be more aggressive now. For example, by doing commerce raiding with lone CLs, surprise long range bombing with "massive" 4E raid, temporary port "blocade" with mines and subs concentration. Sorry for the analogy but now you are the "vietminh" and you have to harass him everywhere. Attrition is your friend. Be imaginative. It's a game ;-).

Do you have a lot of experience using Port Stanley? Starts small, and needs lots of engineers, plus travel time. I used it a lot in Nasty,Nasty Ironman games against the AI where it was extremely valuable. In fact I may have used it a lot because of your advice![&o]

How is the fuel situation in Australia?

Lone CLs - Right now, I have to budget my fuel around Australia until I can get more Tankers there. The Brits are kind of short legged to send from India. Then, there is USA. That's it for now. Some of my CLs are going to be with my CVs for now. Nice idea, but maybe later.

Massive 4e raids - you do realize, its only May 42?? Where am I going to get them?? The B-24s come out in a few months. I have two BG headed from Eastern USA to CT and eventually India. I need to wait until re-sizing in August from 8 to 12 planes.

Subs - I get shots now, too bad they cannot hit anything or when they do, its a dud. For now, I just hope to limit losses until the dud rate goes down in Jan '43.

For subs, no success also with brits or dutch (or french if there are some in the mod) ?
Did you check leader stats ?

For 4E, in may 42 10 planes is a "massive" raid, i know. But it can do some damage on unprotected base/airfield/harbor.

A few days of regular to low activity.

May 25:
Cold Bay - 4 BBs, CL, 8 DDs, 2 DMS hit base inflicting 548 casualties. This is followed by 18 Betty. Then, john uses his Tina's for the first time to bring in 1st para Div, but losses 10 to flak. The shock attack reduces the forts to 1 and my supplies are gone.

RO-34 operates east of Esperance and sinks an xAK and xAKL.

China - Changsha hit hard again, while Kukong and 1 NE of Chuhsien sees my troops hit again.

KB and KB2 are seen for last time about 4 west of Exmouth. I would imagine they are headed for Soerabaja for replenishment and refueling.

May 26:
Cold Bay - just 11 Liz and 12 Betty

China - only minor air attacks at Kukong (6 Sonia) and 1 NE of Chuhsien (13 Lily).

Intel - 56th ID at Pearl; 1st Para prepping for Cold Bay; 16th ID to Tabiteuea; 33rd ID at Darwin

May 27:
Cold Bay - just 8 Liz and 9 Betty

China - Changsha's AF bombed by 85 Sally. Minor at other two bases.

Notes:
Western Australia - the evac continues as I lose a few more ships and troops start to head for Port Augusta and Adelaide.

2000 plus - I just reached 200 Chinese rifle squads pulled into troops all in China. The country is settled down to just his daily bombing runs.

Damn Japanese subs!! [:(] [:@]

May 30:
China - Kweiyang is hit. In response, I use PP to buy out the Chinese bomber groups that were there and send them to India. Minor at Kukong and next to Chuhsien.

Dutch Harbor - 22 Betty

Intel - 56 Inf Bde at Darwin; 13 Indpt Inf Rgt at Tabiteuea

May 31:
I-11 claims an xAK and xAKL south of Ceduna.
I-7 misses TF 5 SW of San Diego.
I-15 is 6 SW of SD and gets 2 TT hits on BB Colorado [20-47(37)-32(28)-0]. I'm mad at myself as I had set a destination almost due south of San Fran, but didn't set waypoints to prevent the TFs from zigging over towards this know area John often patrols. She will head for SD before going to LA due to her larger shipyard.

China - Kweiyang hit for second straight day.

Dutch Harbor - two waves with Zeros escorting in 10 Betty and then 23 Kates.

Tandjoenselor (next to Tarakan) - Shock attack wipes out my troops and takes base.

Tahiti - 6 WNW of bases sees a TF of 10 warships.

Notes:
Allied HQ went through divisions in India and belonging to USA to either start prepping for offensive actions or change where they were to go.

John reported his Glens spotted the CVs headed out from San Fran for points south. So much for getting to Panama without being noticed.

Plans going forward will be what my troops are prepping for and what operations I plan on conducting.

American Divisions:
1st Marine @ San Fran - prepping for Cold Bay
2nd Marine @ San Fran - prepping for Umnak
3rd Marine - arrives in 30 days
32 ID @ San Fran - prepping for Cold Bay
24 ID @ San Fran - prepping for Akutan (rebuilding still from destruction at Pearl)
25 ID @ San Fran - prepping for Akutan (will beginning rebuilding in July once the 42 USA Rifle comes out at 80/month)
37 ID - prepping for Tahiti; 2 of 3 Rgt in route Port Stanley; third Rgt arrives in less than 90 days
40 ID @ Cape Town - prepping for Akyab, but needs 1893 PP
41 & Americal ID - on trains from western Australia to Adelaide
27 ID @ Los Angeles - prepping for Umnak, but need 1939 PP

June 42 - mostly a month of transit as the massive troop movements off map reach Port Stanley at end of month. Just about all my warships and carriers strength will be here...eventually.
Summer 42 - build up SE Pacific and get large TF to NZ. Meet the survivors of SE ambush and large AO fleet to head back to USA for full repairs.
Oct 42 - invasions in Aleutians just before winter weather takes affect.

I am reading John's AAR as well so I cannot get into specific discussions. However, what you are doing looks pretty cookie cutter to me.

One of the biggest problems for the Allied player is to not feel the need to DO everything, rush around and thus take damage from subs, surprise raiders, etc. Remember, you continue to get stronger and better equipped to deal with John every day.

I am not sure the advantage of hiding your warships in Port Stanley, is there something special about it or the turnaround time?

I recommend you re-evaluate the strategic map based on what John's current positions and garrison requirements are and do a Canoerebel on him somewhere. If you stretch him thin with Psyops and hit him hard in a soft spot you might do really well.

The Aleutians are not going anywhere and are just as much of an anchor as Pearl Harbor is.

Meanwhile, the first offensive out of India will commence soon. Both Corp and Command HQs are prepping for Cox's Bazar and Akyab. Players that know me know I'll try to have these HQ combos for just about every major operation at this point of war. Here are my infantry divisions (ID).

India:

I am not sure the advantage of hiding your warships in Port Stanley, is there something special about it or the turnaround time?

No plans to hide here. Considering I have been pushed back to Kodiak in Aleutians and then have a very tentative hold in SE Pacific. John captured the Marqueses Islands and a base just had AF go to level 1, I need to establish a firm hold here and take back that island group. I hope to get a more secure supply line to NZ and then back to Australia. Plus, I hope long term to get John to send his fleet around more and more to put out some fires.

To date, John has had his big CVs and BB/BCs over off Pearl for war's start. 2/3 of KB remained to capture Line Islands. Then, be part of blockade of Pearl that included running up to Gulf of Alaska for an ambush that almost succeeded in getting at 2 CV & CVL (brave DD TF and weather saved me). Then, back off Pearl for the invasion. Many of his BB/BCs headed up to Aleutians (7 at last count), while his CV/CVLs headed for Soerabaja and his raid down to SW corner of Australia for his successful ambush. He even went to the very SW corner chasing down cripples and got my TF of 10 TKs. Now, they are back at Soerabaja (assumption here). Some will head to Japan and/or Singapore for upgrades. The rest will support western Australia operations. Is he going to then send KB to SE Pacific again?? I hope all this fuel consumption comes back to bite him in ass in '44. [;)]

Observation - John has about 250 Oil centers (Miri, Palembang, and Medan) still damaged. But, he has expanded the repair shipyards at Soerabaja to 33, Manila to 21, and Singapore to 51 which he almost always does. IMO, when I play Japan, oil is priority #1 for repairs, not repairing and/or expanding repair shipyards.

Sounds like your game centers around the oil/fuel and you are planning accordingly. I like what Mr. Kane did to spidery in their encounter with Mr. Kane as the allies.

June starts off with more expansion efforts by John.

June 1:
I-6 sinks two more to west of Adelaide - xAKL and DD King

S-45 gets a TT hit on an xAK at Cold Bay, but gets a depth charge hit for her efforts.

Dutch Harbor - seems to be on menu as 4 BBs, CL, 8 DDs, 2 DMS hit base = 202c; 21 Betty and 23 Kates follow up; My SST subs are transporting supplies from Kodiak here. Hope it helps.

Port Heiden - Who?? Where?? The base on the western side of the eastern part of Aleutian Island chain OR on the SW leg of Alaska herself. Fast Transport TF land troops here (base changes sides on 2nd). Possible oversight by John since the troops form Cold Bay had a direction to retreat towards.

China - Changsha and near Chuhsien

NE of Cold Bay - 12Z with 6V

TF moves one hex closer to Tahiti

Recon shows Cox's Bazar = 7 LCU, 20940 trps, 223 guns, 59 AFV; Akyab = 6 LCU, 91F

June 2:
Tahiti - the "never ending expansion" sees a Fast Transport TF land 6600 troops. I order the 4 PBYs away and then give orders to form TF and send the 3 AVDs SE.
Pre-Invasion action off Tahiti (173,178) - Coastal Guns Fire Back!
Defensive Guns engage approaching landing force

79 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

Japanese Ships
CA Atago
CL Kiso
CL Nagara
CL Jintsu
CL Sendai, Shell hits 1
DD Minekaze
DD Hamakaze
DD Amatsukaze, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Natsushio, Shell hits 1
DD Kagero
TB Otori
AMC Tabai Maru
DD Minegumo
DD Ariake

Japanese ground losses:
71 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
38 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Exmouth - Fast Transport TF lands troop at empty base

Aleutians - 8 Vals to NE of Cold Bay. 21 Betty and 23 Kates at Dutch Harbor

Intel - 48 ID at Tabiteuea

Notes:
"Follow TF x" - doesn't work for those going to an off map base like Balboa, Panama. My ASW TF did continue on, but left the two CV TF and SC TF back on map and trying to return to San Fran even thought home port was set for all to Balboa. Thankfully, none were attacked by his subs.

Gambier Islands - I tell John there is an island group called Gambier that is unoccupied. They are the most southern and SE ones on the map. Knowing him, he probably will Fast Transport some troops here.

Seriously, besides adding a little more delay to my efforts, why do this?? There is no way he can defend everything he has already and he continues to expand. Is it an obsession??

Let him expand. Then take it back in a couple of months. [:D]
