I would think that if you don't change the WRA settings at all, and avoid NEZ on the player side, you wouldn't see a huge and game-changing difference in A2A. You might see more with changes to ASW.

Even if the scenarios are not updated to the latest DB, the model for the AA missiles range still changes if played with "tiny", doesn't it?

What I mean it's that I still don't get what changes of those being introduced by "tiny" are "core" and what are "DB related".

And I appreciate the time taken to do the testing and the honest answer.

Keep up the good work everyone!
After the update, all AAMs will use the new kinematic model even if the scenario uses an old DB. Missiles will accelerate for as long as their motor will last, then coast until they run out of energy. The range value still exists, but it's there mainly for ROE purposes, the motor performance dictates the actual effective range of the missile. Even if the statcard says AMRAAM has a 27nm range, if you shoot it at 27 nm you aren't going to hit anything since the missile motor burns out in 4 seconds.

Looking at some DB comparisons, it looks like if you are using an old DB model, the game will convert the old missile range value to a motor burn time based on a set of calculations/DB values, which can change drastically between DB versions. On newer than 494 DB versions, these motor values get tweaked by hand rather than mass converted (ex, in the beta the AIM-120D's burn motor time went from 5 to 18, because with the initial converted values 120D was sputtering out after 20nm, which isn't "accurate"). In one scenario, an AIM-7 Sparrow might have 16 seconds of motor time due to it's DB version, in a newer version it might only have 4 seconds and a fraction of the effective range.

There's a lot of weirdness with missile values right now, and I would not use the statcard range as anything but the roughest of ballparks. Look at the motor numbers to see what it's effective range might be like. I expect a lot of changes in the coming patches tweaking motor burn time and missile speeds in order to get missiles behaving as they should relative to each other.

I was thinking of this book the other day. In a quick google search the most recent update I read is from May 2022 saying book 2 is coming. I imagine there's more current info out there? Does anyone know if this is still happening?

Yes, still happening, just slower than we hoped

Both Joel and I are working at it in our spare time, he's just wrapping up his PhD at the moment so a tad busy.

Book #3 is titled: Limit of Advance. The story will pick up where we left off and bring us out to about Northern Fury #27 - Out on a Limb. So essentially the entire campaign in Iceland.

I'm not going to speculate on when, but I do know that there will be a release date.

Volume 3 & a couple novellas are at various stages of development as well.

Thanks for your continued interest

I am curiously looking forward for part two. I really enjoyed the first one. Hopefully Limit of Advance doesn't become a second The Winds of Winter.

No worries. Limit of Advance is in the works. We're not aiming for a George R. R. Martin schedule but it has been a while since we've updated everyone.

We're expecting to make an announcement - not the one your hoping for - about a project in the next couple weeks.

Watch this space.

The manuscript is off for formatting, then some adjustments to the cover and it should all be uploaded onto the various sites by 28 June.

If you've played Northern Fury #1 - H-Hour or Northern Fury #33 - Into the Night you may have some insight into the happenings of this book.

Can't wait for it. Can the book be preordered?

Not yet

We're waiting on final mods to the cover and a final run at the formatted manuscript. Taking longer than was planned which is another good lesson in not announcing these things.... grrr

Once we mate the forthcoming cover with the forthcoming final manuscript we can put it up on Amazon for pre-order and scheduled release.

I'm hoping for a matter of days or a week but cannot stake a marker on that.

Thanks for your interest.
