John fought hard and often well in our recent game. I figured there were three big lessons he could take from the game, but wouldn't take all of them. (1) To pay attention in China [which I believe he'll do]. (2) To not leave holes in his defenses [he'll commit mentally to do this, will make progress, but will get busy and laspe into old habits from time to time]. (3) To keep KB hidden more often and to not steam around with high detection and without information about/detection on Death Star [I don't think he learned this lesson at all, because he did it early, middle, and late game].

Sorry about that! Gumming up the works again. During my game with John III, I actually posted in his AAR early one morning, while my head was still foggy from sleep leading me to click on the wrong AAR. Now THAT was embarrassing.

Noticed the following in the sigint. I guess John is going for Luganville and the surrounding islands. I have a bunch of artillery there which I haven't had the chance yet to extract farther back to other bases. I'll start flying what I can out to Suva. Luckily, I have heavy cruiser/BC fleets moving to the area.
He is also sending a lot to Singers. Does this indicate my earlier sigint showing an India invasion to be true?

Don't forget that the destination might be misleading, it could be moving to a waypoint and unload somewhere else entirely.

Good job with your punishing him for leaving all those transport unprotected. Now you have gotten more experience for your carrier crews it might be time to do a little R&R in PH and then head to Alaskan waters and see what he has left unprotected up there as well.

A bad day mainly due to the expected loss of Adak. If it had held for an additional turn, I could have reinforced the garrison. As it is, it's lost and probably can't be taken for some time. Oh well, reinforcements will head back to reinforce Dutch Harbor. The interesting thing here is that a CVL or a CVE appears near Adak, with some bombers but mostly a fighter element. I have battleships and destroyers nearby...

In the South Pacific, John seems to have invasion forces heading for Tulagi/Guadalcanal and to the Luganville area. I have cruisers closing in, but his carriers are in the vanguard down by Luganville. He is expending a lot of fuel roving around with his carriers and its quite amazing. They started from Kwajalein, went all the way to Palmyra almost, then down towards Pago Pago, then over to Suva, then back up towards Vaitupu, and now back down towards Luganville the last two turns. They must be running low on fuel and I think I will get another opportunity to cause some havoc with my surface forces.
Allied carriers are east of Palmyra, refueled,
and undetected. Rather than send them back to Pearl Harbor, I am thinking of sending them back down to Pago Pago where they can be fully refueled and primed for more raiding. Based on the last few days, he probably thinks they are heading back to Pearl and have set up his subs accordingly.

If his carriers have done any high speed moving, then system and engine damage will build up and may affect his operations.
Any chance at night bombing or torpedo attacks with PBYs? It might get lucky or just scare him . . .

Don't overlook Umnak. It has a large AF and with the amount of construction units you get, you can build this up nicely.

@rangerjoe It'd be nice to try and perhaps I will when he is retreating or as I get closer with my carriers coming back around to potentially lower his day CAP. For now, I want to keep my nav search as strong as possible to highlight gaps for my surface raiders.

I was busy yesterday so didn't get the turn back to John until today. I sent him a note saying, "Back to you! The endless fuel reserves of a Japanese carrier task force are a wonder to behold? Are they nuclear-powered?" to which I got a reply in his acknowledgement of receiving it:
How did you know??
The real answer is that I was damned near out of fuel near Suva and your damned carriers came within five hexes of them but--thank goodness--didn't spot them. That would have been catastrophic...
I think John has a tendency to give information away like this in his emails, so I believe him. So that question is answered for me.

2 AVD have 12 Aviation Support. Enough for PBY group. Move them and disband in a port. Great for filling in gaps in NavS.

That was where the airfield was build to protect Dutch Harbor. The Japanese did not know it was there until the flew over it on the way to Dutch Harbor. A flock of P-40s had risen to greet them . . .

Japanese troops land at Ndeni. KB hovers nearby. There could be an invasion force headed for Tulagi, but my patrol craft lost sight of it.
In the North Pacific, a series of engagements take place between minor Japanese surface units and US destroyers fighting a rearguard action to protect Allied transports fleeing back to Dutch Harbor. In general, they are successful in this endeavor and will try to do so again tomorrow. My battleships (Warspite and Colorado) are close by; a Japanese carrier of about 25 fighters and 5 or so bombers hovers nearby. Let's see what happens tomorrow.

I heard a story that the pilots at Umnak were occasionally forced to circle the airfield while ground crews chased bears off of the landing strip.
