This is providing a great opportunity (as long as I don't get hit) for my ASW IJA Bombers to THUMP some Allied subs! Have a full Sentai at Bima, another at Kolaka, and a third at Kendari. Each of these 27 plane units is flying 60% ASW with a skill of 60+. Should be fun to watch the hits occur. Have a large Daitai (48) of Jills flying out of Bima as well doing the same thing.

My sincere condoleces for the cut off units in north Burma....I'm very sorry.

What are your intentions regarding the Chinese theatre, now that Burma road is open?

The DKB makes its presence known flying off a pair of ground attack strikes at Makassar. As seen as it is well and truly SEEN the carriers will scoot away heading for Cocos.

Five Allied SS in the Celebes were smacked this last turn. Good start.


It is BITTER cold this morning. The report is we hit -33F just a few minutes ago. YIKES!

The Superintendent of Schools did a robo-call to all parents telling them to make sure their kids are bundled up with caps, gloves, hoods, and long sleeves. Didn't know whether I should be happy with a thoughtful reminder or stupified over the fact they felt like SOME parents are too stupid to actually take care of their kids!

March 20, 1944

The 19th ID arrives at Makassar. The 2nd TK and a Brigade are two days away. Order the 19th to Bombard so we have a clear picture of what's there. Two BBs will hit the base tomorrow.

BC Haruna (I was wrong as to which of my BCs she was) arrives at Bima and will skirt the Allied SS by going to Kolaka. She will then bombard the following day.

I think the 25th for D-Day looks pretty firm. The only issue might be timing the assault with the bombardment TFs.

The DKB makes good its exit and will arrive at Cocos tomorrow.


He is definitely gathering his shipping at Horn and Normanton. Still have plenty of time but am very watchful of his moves.

Meanwhile, they are already freaking out over "MAYBE" up to 1 inch of snow tonight here in NE Tennessee. [:D] The county schools will be closed tomorrow due it being more up on the mountain roads. It has given me a chuckle or two since I moved 'south' in '92.

Have you ever seen southerners drive in the snow? You wouldn't want your kids out on those roads!

Michael provides me all sorts of 'colorful' descriptions regarding the driving he sees at home.

I haved lived in Northern Ill, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Colorado and Ohio. Areas that get a lot of snow days have better drivers than areas that get fewer and the amount of ice makes a difference. I never had a problem in Wisconsin or Illinois, generally just packed snow. Ky and Southern Ohio when there was a film of ice was sometimes a problem, not much you can do when going up a hill and having to stop and then you just slide backwards down the hill into a ditch.
The worst storm was in Colorado, the only true blizzard I have ever experienced, they sent us out to rescue people on I-25, most of the ground was bare, but wherever there was an obstacle, like a car, there would be a snow mound, it literally took about 10 minutes to bury a car. We pulled around 100 people out, only 2 dead. If you are stuck in snow deep enough to bury your exhaust pipe, get out and clear it periodically; you can die from CO poisoning

Dan seems to have gone dark so he may be having some weather issues or maybe he just wondered off into the woods again

What does your kamikaze training situation look like and hopefully you're building the planes that give you the best bang for the buck while doing the deed.

Good to hear from you Sir.

I was mentally exhausted when I cut back on the number of games I was playing. Even once I was down to just Dan's game that feeling persisted. Burn out was quite real. Am sure everyone has experienced it periodically. I've had matches running constantly for ten years and simply needed a break. Couple of months took care of that and we're doing OK presently. As said before, the biggest regret is half-assing those months away in early 1943 with attention divided between separate matches.

Hope you are well. Have you been doing any of that FANTASTIC artwork?

I have SOOOOOOOOOO many planes training in Japan right now. There must be 3,000+ aircraft in the Home Islands presently. Ran some of the numbers by Michael yesterday--CRAZY. Everyone is training!

SIDE NOTE: Just got MISS PEGGY (with Torp) this day--March 21, 1944. Will commence immediate traing as I change out the Helen's for this marvelous aircraft.

March 21, 1944

Major development has the troops moving out of Makassar. This upsets the whole applecart. My troops moving to cutoff his retreat are still 4 days (hence the March 25th D-Day) out. He will get out prior to that. CRAP!

OK. Time to amend the plan.

The 19th bombards the base and finds a very weak (less then 100 AV) 1st Aust ID, 1st Aust Corps, 1st USMC TK Bn (also beat-up), and the 9th RAAF M/W Sqn Eng Bn. The BBs hit the base and troops nicely doing over 500 Casualties and starting numerous fires.

His troops are SOOOOOOO weak. Order the 19th to Shock Attack tomorrow. The BBs will hit again and I order ALL Theatre air to hit the troops. This should be over 250 bombers. Place over 150 Fighters on LRCAP over Makassar. We'll force the retreat and open the Base for Japan.


Continuing the watch his shipping and see no movement towards anything. GREAT!

A Brigade arrives at Watampone and the hex north of it. Order a bombardment of Watampone to get an idea of what--exactly--is present.

Assuming we take Makassar next turn we'll then pursue into corner hex and drive him to Watampone. If no movement by Dan then we'll force the surrender there. Once again, if there is movement and/or imminent danger then we lift off the 2nd TK and 19th ID.

I had nine separate hits scored of Allied SS this turn and got the hear the pleasant sounds of two SS sinking. NICE!

DKB arrives at Cocos. Will refuel then head out for hunting.

Looks like I might stabilize the Burma line. Should know tomorrow.

Amen to the burnout! Even us inferior newbies get it too! <grin>

I actually took the game off my hard drive when I moved and between my video card going bad and some health issues over the last six months, I literally made the New Years resolution to dive back in to this awesome game. So far I've agreed to start two games against previous opponents.

Hey Sir. UP 25251 is doing quite well. She is probably 80-85% rebuilt and looks great. We actually have to do some painting this coming summer. First routine maintenance we have had to do since we started with her. To go with 25251 we bought a 1951 Chevy Five-Window pick-up. She has been affectionately named 'Clara' and we'll begin work on her in the spring.

As I've been hitting these units and watching the troops attack in Burma it really becomes apparent that Dan has a crap ton of American troops somewhere. Through the DEI campaign I have seen the 1st-2nd--3rd Marine Divisions and only one Army ID. Wager that this is the force that will get thrown into the fray next...

Where are they OR where have they been recently??

Score one for the GOOD GUYS! Makassar falls to a 6-1 assault. I let out a war hoop when ALL four Allied units surrender.

Losses are nearly 8,000 troops (780+ Squads) to just 500 Japanese.
