Hey Thread dudes-guess who is celebrating his 29th wedding anniversary this weekend?  Hint: not me (or Mike).

Anyways, a heartfelt 'congratulations' to this particular fellow for a noteworthy achievement.  [8D][&o]

He got married when I was 2 years old

Either way, I'm playing Starcraft II at the moment: much better than I'd feared, and even after years of World of Warcrap, Blizzard can still tell a good story. It raises my hopes for Diablo III.

Havent looked into it, despite it being darn near the only thing available for Apple. The screenshots struck me amazingly like more of the same from umpteen years ago. What do you say?

It is more of the same: SC mechanics in SCII clothes, which was why I initially hesitated to buy it. Decided to take a chance, and am glad I did. It's a good game.

We sure are spoiled nowadays. [:D]

Heard a funny joke on Slashdot: What's the difference between a sysadmin and a monkey? Monkey's get free bananas and can fondle themselves in public.

[:'(]

So do many sysadmins. [:-]

We have to pay for our own bananas

Sorry, just caught up on a month's worth of Sprior and Mandrake's AAR and my perspective is decidedly off kilter

Please keep your kilt on.

It's no use. They're all pinko commies. Otoh you've peaked my interest. What is this Red Lightning?

I've always like those hypothetical NATO vs Warsaw Pact games. They're a nice change from WW2, we could do with a few more of that sort of game.

I've never heard of Red Lightning, it sounds like it was far more ambitious (and well designed) than the majority of games about these days.

Looking forward to The Red Pill when it finally turns up http://www.warfaresims.com/?page_id=1101

Looks pretty. But in my experience, game designers lose me with all the whiz-bang weaponry in lieu of good old fashioned strategy. Hope this one may prove the exception.

I have HPS's WWIII games and wheel them out occasionally, especially when in the mood for a BIG game.

OK, I'll look into it sooner or later. Too bad they didnt make an FPS like Fallout.

Anyone else heard of Operation Aphrodite?

Yes. As I recall it consisted of using "war weary" B-17s and B-24's guided by remote control and loaded with Topex, to be flown into ,hard to hit V-1 abd V-2 sites. JFK's older brother Joseph was killed (along with his flight engineer) on one such mission that went wrong.

There were too books in the early 70's "Aphrodite: Desperate mission" and "The Lost Prince" which pretty well covered the missions. I don't own them, and haven't read them in over 30 years , so my memories might be a little off. Or new data may have been discovered or declassified.

I know this was a borderline political no-no, but this sort of thing reminds me of an old quote from Benito Mussolini, speaking of one of his generals:

"Here's another general with whom I can't get angry, because I despise him".

Anyway, I'm buying those games; just pre-purchased Mafia II, which will be released in Europe on Friday. I don't understand why games are still released on different dates in the States and Europe...[&:]

Moving on... There's a documentary series running on Danish TV at the moment, about the Roman occupation of Britain. Part 2 tonight.

A marketing ploy?[&:] Perhaps to use excite in one to build up demand in another?[&:] Don't know, I was always in sales , not marketing. (To quote Adams "a bunch of mindless jerks who will be 1st up against the wall when the revolution comes!".[:D]

The only thing I'm sure of is that it's not me. I haven't that kind of patience.[:'(]

Not patience. It's called "housebreaking". Don't worry , they'll get you too![:D]
