My Zekes arrive into the game. I was hoping to hit some PT boats with them but MSW is better!

5-20-43: marine raider recon showed 22000 troops each at Monda and Shortland, w/ high probability of 7/9 level forts.

I wrote a long blurb on what I see here and it didn't take!?!
Ike is using his comfortable (for him) defense and playing with BR's head (as usual). The defense, while a tough nut to crack, can be broken as all defensive lines have weak points. A massive application of force and the line will break. It's an eggshell that is once cracked will fall apart under pressure.
Ike is the only person I know who claims that constant Allied LBA bombings don't hurt the base, troops or supply levels. Constant bombing will force his engineers to burn supplies while they try to fix things.
Allied air will give Ike problems with his sqds: resting, ac replacements, morale and pilot quality deteriorate with constant pressure.
The KB, while still dangerous, isn't so powerful anymore. Even losing no CVs in a battle will cost irreplaceable loses to ac and pilots. Empty decks = floating VPs and little more.
Welcome to the 1943 meatgrinder that finds the Japs trying to stave off defeat.

A very one sided carrier battle takes place. Two allied fleet carriers are knocked out of the game. Not a single bomb or torpedo hit a Japanese ship.

I do not have a ¨hard defense¨ my defense is like a sponge.

Yes I overextened myself. From exactly 10 hexs out in thunderstorms the KB did heavy damage to 3CV/3xcve. Half my fleet CV force is out of commission. Not sure These ships will make port if IKE presses the attack. Oddly, this unescorted attack is the strike that did the most damage. Must have been 10 escorted attacks, but this one did all the damage.
Because of this situation I must again take one day to study my course of action. My brain is overloaded w/ problems. Was planning to play today but, damn, IKE sure is a sneaky b-----d. It is good to be humbled. God willing, someday Ike will also be humbled.

Pilots yes but aircraft no. I have many Vals and Kates in the reserves. Losing the pilots is bad but some planes will always get through and it just takes a few.

A good analogy. The Aus 3rd and 6th div have closed w/ the lae garrison. Here is a look at the troops.

From the looks of things the Lae assault is lacking in AV strength, especially given that the IJA sits in a heavily (knowing Ike) fortified position.

Yes the Essex was sunk. flotation damage was extreme. The one sided IJN carrier victory side railed my offense as my priority shifted to saving 4 carriers. The only bright spot in this debical is 300 experienced Jap pilots will not be coming back into the battle. I have told IKe privately he has done a wonderful job w/ his assets. We still have a good game but I admit my hill to climb is getting higher. VP spread is 2000 points.

Another month has ended.[&o]
Japanese aircraft losses finally climbed over Allied. Unfortunate Essex did not go down with her airwing.
