Found and waxed that convoy but not too impressed. A few ships survived. There was no afternoon phase due to bad weather. And look how many a/c took off. There are ~600 bombers in the CV force a mere 5 hexes away, and only 50 bombers found the target? I guess the thunderstorm didnt help though. CVs are drawing back to Babeldoab now as the reinforcement wave is drawing near.

Inching forward in Malaysia still. Japanese shipping was spotted at Medang, some attacks were made but not much damage was done. I've reinforced Victoria Point heavily, the engineers made it there this turn in fact, I suspect he'll pull out by tomorrow but if not Medang is going to be hit with everything SEAC can muster.

Won't be too long now before the transports (still unloading at Victoria Point, the aforementioned engineers) will be back at Cochin and able to pick up the Sabang invasion force.


Meanwhile in the SWPAC area an amphib assault force destined for Boela is just passing by Merauke. I'm going to invade Sorong with a couple of brigades soon as well. The CV force moved NE again into the deep ocean and did spot a fleeing crippled BB, probably Haruna, unfortunately another day of terrible weather grounded the carrier air. Bit of a decision, but I shall persist despite the reinforcements for Babeldoab drawing near now and possibly in need of air cover. The fighting at Babeldoab itself isn't going so well... ooer.

10 P51As for a handful of bomb hits. The bombers are not the best trained, SEAC's attack bombers are mostly used in an air to ground role as there are so few naval targets. They got lownav about 50. The P51s paid heavily but succeeded in getting the bombers to the target. Am curious what he's doing here, evacuation I guess? Resupply? He knows it's under the Allied air umbrella, but there are 3 TFs there, and the Tonies arrived today.

Urk. This is what happens while my CVs chase targets well north of Babeldoab. I got a bunch of BBs and amphibs in the area approaching Babeldoab, well, some Judies from Yap showed up. Today is probably a rare example of surface ships beating aircraft actually, a lot of Judies were shot down by heavy battlewagon AAA, while Iowa's crew merely had to man their brooms.

A whole mass of stuff was scheduled to hit here today. P38s and heavies from Victoria Point on sweep/airfield, 3 squadrons of attack bombers, some Beaufighter X torpedo bombers, P51A and P51B and Beau VIc escort... of all this, only 1 squadron of attack bombers launched with the Beaus as escort, probably about 10-15% of the total force I had raring to go. Terrible, terrible performance, again due to bad weather. There's still 3 TFs reported at Medan. I'll persist for a third day. No radar means the bombers get through, though the Tonies have executed 25 Allied aircraft in 2 days. If you fly escort, you are dead meat in this game.

The CVs found Haruna limping directly towards Japan, another torp, she is surely toast. She was moving very slowly so must be badly damaged indeed. Japan is a long way home. And there is the sub gauntlet. I'm gonna order the CVs back south so Iowa doesn't get splotched.

Again though the Allies just suck. Look at that meeny lil raid, and it wasn't weather this time. I got 1200 carrier air, all the SBDs are set to naval attack, 30 make it. If KB met these incompetent fools then chances are the USN would get its azz handed to it. This after going through them with hand picked commanders for all and with all pilots having the appropriate skills at 70+.

Urk. This is what happens while my CVs chase targets well north of Babeldoab. I got a bunch of BBs and amphibs in the area approaching Babeldoab, well, some Judies from Yap showed up. Fortunately without torpedoes or today would've sucked. Today is probably a rare example of surface ships beating aircraft actually, a lot of Judies were shot down by heavy battlewagon AAA, while Iowa's crew merely had to man their brooms.

The reinforcements arrive at Babeldoab, and the convoys at Medan are totally crushed.

I've decided to build another airfield at the NW tip of Papua, so I can get more bombers over Babeldoab (the Allied response to difficulty - MORE BOMBERS!!! [:D] ). A convoy is loading up at Rabaul accordingly. I've also ordered more AKEs to Noemfoor as I got so many cruisers and BBs there that it takes days to rearm them due to not enough ops points.

Also I've decided to create a British SAG and base it at Victoria Point - probably a bit late now but given his insistence on sending convoys to Sumatra they could do some good. They set off from Cochin today.

And lastly, my Boela invasion force just passed Merauke today - the CVEs at Merauke are ordered to link up with them.

No BBs in this invasion force, it was quite obvious, as the coastal fort does a bit of damage this time. The disabled tanks and engineering vehicles hurt more than the ship damage as the calibre of the weapons involved seems too low to really hurt a ship.

Finally the USAAF puts up a big raid on Babeldoab but once again the results are lacklustre. He still has a lot of a/c trapped on the island, all the more reason to keep the airfield out of action, but its supply hits I really want.

As there is no CAP worry anymore I'm going to swap some of the fighters at Biak for medium bombers. Range 12 is a long way for the typical medium though, so I dont expect much.

Heart was in my mouth for a moment. I really dont think much of CVEs in the ASW role, which is odd given IRL thats what they were there for in large part. Still, the sub loses, but it could so easily have been a blown up CVE. As there are so many subs in the area I'm throwing the kitchen sink at them, CVEs included, and it is getting results.

The Boela invasion force is far more adequate than the Babeldaob one and the Japs are much less dug in. The base falls immediately. I dont bother moving up engineers because it would take so long, and I dont really need aircraft operating here yet. Lack of transport compels me to instead make moves to invade Ambon immediately, so the amphibs wend their way back towards Townsville, which is the jump off point.

I think I'm getting too far from my rally points, the Allied advance has meant that Rabaul and Townsville are not quite ideal locations to launch invasions from anymore.
