Turn 109

AGN: I will now include the northern wing of AGC in this section.

The northern pincer continues to expand as more SU units are pocketed. It will take a turn or 2 to eliminate all of them. The panzers ought to be able to continue SE next turn. The southern wing is consolidating its position north of the Volga. I am currently attempting to dislodge the last river bank defenders so that I can move repaired rail across. The rest of the mobile forces are ready to stick NE on the original heading.

Two things here. One, Moscow. It's less than 50 miles for many units now a currently appears weakly defended. It is so temping to dash in. However, the goal is greater than that. Two, focus. The goal is to pocket that entire front. It is doable and close to accomplishment. At the moment, one rail line is cut. Three to go.

AGC: The infantry pocket has been eliminated. A struggle around Voronezh has developed and with Orel cleaned up I have sent additional infantry units to assist. The Panzer corps will rest next turn in preparation to strike due sough.

AGS: That part about refitting? Yes well, I realized I spoke too soon. I still had the west side of the southern Donets to clear. That accomplished I let the Hungarian mobile corps loose to run amock. The panzers will rest next turn to prepare for a drive north to link with AGC.

There is a single hex of SU units sitting on a southern port. I must remove this to free up the 5 hexes of units to help garrison the Donets river line.

Turn 110

AGN: The two wings have made contact. All the targeted rail line have been cut. This will prevent reinforcements entering the Moscow threat of operations. If anything is to escape it will have to be by foot. The encirclement is currently full of holes. Next turn as the infantry catch up it will thicken and solidify.

The rail bridges across the Volga have been isolated. Hopefully that will hold. Next turn I hope to repair my way across.

AGC: Rest and consolidation. I am hopping more SU units move into the bulge allowing for a larger pocket.

AGS: As AGC, rest and consolidation. Fortification units have been laid down along the Donets rvier bank.

Turn 111

AGN: The encirclement has been beefed up and sealed. One of the rail bridges is cleared. The other should fall next turn. I am avoiding all unnecessary combat with the trap units. I'll begin clean up operations in a couple of turns. In the mean time I'll grab what is given me like Kalinin.

AGC: Digging in and refitting.

AGS: Digging in and refitting although I did clear the southern port town.

Turn 112

AGN: Well. What can I say? Moscow fell not with a bang but a whimper. Not a single defending unit in the city. All the airbases that were confirmed in the pocket must have been disbanded. All the HQ's must have relocated. Over the next two turns all the defenders in that pocket will be eliminated. Units have repositioned for the next phase of the summer of '43 offensive.

AGC: Digging in and refitting.

AGS: Digging in and refitting.

There are 2 months of campaigning weather left before I can expect mud. AGN proper will drive east to the tri-city area then swing north behind the two major cities there. The Finns will advance as far as they can and secure the area.

AGC will remain split for now. The northern wing will advance on Gorky and secure the river for winter. The southern wing will drive down the east bank of the Don. AGS will advance east to the west bank of the Don and swing northwest to link with AGC. Again there should be another pocket of SU units. Those will be the finishing positions for the two armies as they refit and settle in for winter.

Turn 113

AGN: Encircled the southern portion of the front and captured 2 of the 3 cities. The Finns made a show of it as well by breaking a few of the forts built.

AGC: I, ah, lost control. I made a couple holes and threw caution to the wind. Lets see what happens.

AGS: The infantry busted out to the NE. The Hungarians drove across the Don and onwards. I really like the Hungarians as an ally. Very impressive. The 2 panzer corps then, well, went all over the steppe with reckless abandon.

By the way, I overran many airbases in the center. It's like being a child running into to flock of birds and watching them scatter. Not many aircraft caught on the ground though.
