I was the Japanese a few game back and my opponent and I same time were suing for peace at the same time because of a total lack of supplies and fuel I could no longer present a defense. He was about to sue for peace because my almost out of fuel KB was able to defeat another allied carrier TF. So it was almost mutual towels being thrown in by opposing corners in a boxing match.

Hello Bif1961, I'm afraid my opponent is too cautious and methodical to expose his carriers piecemeal, so far he is using the "Deathstar" approach with all available carriers in mutually supporting TFs in the same hex, covered by multiple TFs including SAGs with BBs, "flycatchers" with DDs to guard against PTs and ASW TFs.

Best hope remains multiple LBA conventional and Kamikaze strikes combined with an all-out effort by KB, hoping to stretch Allied CAP enough to allow something to get trough. For this I need a battlesite in fighter range of multiple large Japanese airfields which are either holding large supply stockpiles which can last through Allied bombing attacks, or a land connection to supply sources i.e. the Home Islands. There is only one such battlesite - the Ryukus including Okinawa - and I'm preparing for it. The problem with such a "set-piece" battle plan is that the enemy may not act according to the plan...

The Okinawa plan also remains a faint hope because he is also methodical in the preparation of the battlefield, with airstrikes and naval bombardments to suppress Japanese airfields in range. I try to keep the Allies air assets strechted out themselves by assigning small air units to bypassed bases to conduct nuisance raids - last turn I managed to sink two Allied DDs off Singapore with a handful of Jakes and Babs on Kamikaze duty. Problem is that the number of bypassed airbases *in supply* is rapidly going against 0.

Sorry, been out of circulation for a bit and just now catching up.

So you have million and millions of resources in the HI and no fuel. And you are very low on HI. But the worst is supply stocks in the HI are really, really low. And this is April 44 data. The good news is that you get to experience 1946 early and get some good practice in.

1. suck the fuel out of your ships. Put a bunch of AK's into a port TF. then use the TF that needs fuel to load from them. Then disband when they are empty.

2. Hiroshima has a lot of fuel because you have a lot of TF home ported there. you need to disband those TF's and let the fuel go to Osaka/Tokyo so you get some HI generated.

You don't have your ARM/VEH levels posted, but hopefully they are good.

Without A7M, all you do with the IJN fighters is 5c and 8 versions of the A6M. They won't be competitive, so use them low as bait.
Focus on just building Frank, turn off everything else. You have so few HI, whatever you have needs be channeled into Frank.

Keep pulling your units back. I would think PI -> HK kind of a circle … maybe even tighter to Shanghai.

Game has advanced to 20/08/1944

Bangkok, Davao and Cagayan out of supplies and all lost after only two or three rounds of combat.

Thailand and Indochina lost except Vinh and Hanoi area.

Luzon conquered except Manila.

Landings on Hainan, on the Chinese coast at Kwangchowan and on Guam.

And my opponent is asking for it - his Deathstar is in range 7 of one AF9, three AF8, one AF5 and three AF4 bases packed to capacity with figters and bombers on naval attack.

Note that all pilots on escort duty had a minimum air skill of 70 and a minimum defense skill of 60 and that all bombers and Kamikazes had skills depending on plane type for naval attack, low naval attack resp. torpedo bombing also at minimum at 70. This was the best I could offer in LBA terms.

KB arrived in range on day 2 as planned to engage an Allied Deathstar weakened - I hoped - by the repeated LBA strikes on day 1 - but no daylight air strikes have been launched against the Deathstar on the second day due to weather. Or due to the shock over the losses.

The butcher bill, at least the most important part of it:

A very steep price for three Kamikaze and one bomb hit - like eggs against a wall.

I was just talking about this in another thread. I know you're depressed, but the problem is the A6M is just outclassed which means you need a large numbers advantage and on attack you can't achieve this with LBA. So it means a lotta waves, with the initial waves just getting creamed.

If you had more N1K/Frank escorting instead of A6M/Oscar you would have seen better results, but honestly attacking the DS is almost always heart rending …

Some more details and stats.

Each base held either IJN or IJA aircraft, no mixing of services.

I have set a common attack altitude setting for all aircraft at a given base.

Most strikes have been assigned to 10k altitude in the hope of a coordinated strike (Air HQs at each base), but in the hope of splitting enemy CAP one IJA base was devoted to low-level attacks at 1k and one IJN base to Kamikaze attacks at 5k.

So damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead - I will send everything I have that has the range to strike.

I have disbanded a number of bomber groups to fill-out others, pulled replacements and moved a handful of reinforcements and training groups to the front bases.

KB will stay in the Korea Strait and is ready to die for the Emperor should my opponent elect to keep his carriers in the East China Sea.

If there is a round 2, it will be bloody as well.

Woohoo, PzB have returned!

Aren't you guys playing Babes? IIRC they cut supply production from refineries, and haven't increased it anywhere else, so you are short over 2000 supply per day, in comparison with stock. And, as PzB mentioned, there was already shortage, even in Scenario 2.

They finally increased anti-tank power of Japanese Squads with upgrade. Other than that, there are only changes for Beta. MichaelM is busy, so Beta seems to be final for some years already.

Latest discovery is that landing in non-base hex isn't as disruptive, as manual claims. Canoerebel have conquered Hokkaido using mostly non-base landings for cutting reinforcements arrival. Other than that, Andy began to make even nastier IRONMAN Scenarios, several weeks ago.

Damnit, just found myself looking by accident at the last page of my oponnent's AAR. You guys shouldn't hijack mine, it confuses me seeing multiple replies here.

Anyway, the latest turn was an uneventful anticlimax, Ed has elected to retreat. The surface stabs by four Kongos in one TF and cruisers in the other all racing full speed towards the enemies' last known positions and a bit beyond found nothing and luckily escaped air raids when ddaylight came. My Kamikaze Corps on Okinawa made some more ineffective efforts on the enemy TFs retiring from the East China Sea. All naval forces will RTB and all planes will return to the training schedule. Intercepts (mails) from my opponent indicate that we have scared the heck out of the Allied dogs, so I count that they won't come back until they can project LBA cover. Next target for invasion probably Formosa, where about six understrength division short of supplies sit behind level-6 forts.

So the Deathstar had +1200 fighters, you were attacking it with a lower number and lower capability of fighters. It is VERY hard to arrange enough LBA on its own to take on the DeathStar as the IJ. You have just (again) proven that very point. You arranged it all about as best as possible with the resources that the IJ has at this time in the game.

It's just a numbers game. If, and this is a very big two letters here, the KB had been able to attack in conjunction with this effort AND you got lucky it the KB attack went in after about 50% of the LBA had gone in, you likely would have seen some serious damage. I wish we could have seen that, but as my grandma always said: "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride."

Anyway, getting both the LBA together and the KB at the same time requires more luck than planning and this time it just didn't happen. Don't beat yourself up about it. But now you have seen the results of attacking the DS with LBA only. My rule of thumb for attacking the DS is that I need 1.5x the number of fighters IF I am using comparable fighters (Frank/George). If lower quality, like Zero/Oscar, then its at least 2x. Yeah, that's a LOT of fighters and almost always means that I'm including the KB because otherwise I can't get enough aircraft. Then you bring in your 1000 or so strike aircraft. Crapload of aircraft, but you are facing the DS which has ~1800 aircraft itself.

Seriously, 1000's of fixes. So many of the little things that bugged you in your game with Andy have been addressed and WAY improved.

Aircraft have loadouts that change with mission profile. Really Change. Not used much in the stock scenarios, but in the mods, HUGE changes. Meaning 1x800kg Naval mission, 16x50 kg AF strike, 3x250 Ground attack …. the load outs can really vary.

DP guns now have separate fields for direct and AA fire in the data base.

Lotsa changes in how TF's work together and fight. Composition of TF's now very important to get the battle tactics that you want.

CAP settings worked out to defeat the strato-sweep.

you would need to read the entire change log of all +100 updates. There are literally thousands of changes/enhancements. We had dev support for almost 5 years and we got so many fixes/changes in place.

AI has been improved several times. Andy just released another round of updates last month. [:D]

Damnit, just found myself looking by accident at the last page of my oponnent's AAR. You guys shouldn't hijack mine, it confuses me seeing multiple replies here.

Anyway, the latest turn was an uneventful anticlimax, Ed has elected to retreat. The surface stabs by four Kongos in one TF and cruisers in the other all racing full speed towards the enemies' last known positions and a bit beyond found nothing and luckily escaped air raids when ddaylight came. My Kamikaze Corps on Okinawa made some more ineffective efforts on the enemy TFs retiring from the East China Sea. All naval forces will RTB and all planes will return to the training schedule. Intercepts (mails) from my opponent indicate that we have scared the heck out of the Allied dogs, so I count that they won't come back until they can project LBA cover. Next target for invasion probably Formosa, where about six understrength division short of supplies sit behind level-6 forts.

Oh well. You effort bought some time.

Sorry for the highjack … but PzB coming back is a big deal!
