Start of turn 59, a very deep and dangerous breakthrough by the Panzer troops south of Boguchar. Stavka is very concerned that the German plan is to then drive South to Rostov creating a massive pocket, which would be disastrous for the Red Army, leaving the Caucasus and Stalingrad defenseless.

A higher level strategic view clearly shows that the Panzers are making a breakthrough towards Stalingrad and the Don east of Rostov. All Soviet reserves are being sent to the area to prevent a massive pocket from being created by the Panzers.

Why do you have all those units on the northern side of the Don? Did you just not have the MP needed to get them across the river?

General note: You have quite the impressive force. I am surprised (but pleased) to see the Germans could make such good progress against such a huge army. (I am glad to see that the Germans are still able to conduct an offensive in 1942. It is also interesting that they went with Case Blue, just as they did historically.)

By the end of turn all the units North of the Don were moved South of the Don, agreed a much better defensive position. The last zoomed out screen shot for Turn 62 was done at the end of the turn showing that all the units set up defensive positions south of the Don.

My opponent Pitaman has concentrated all his Panzer and Motorized divisions into one huge 'Panzerball' - with such a concentration of massive offensive firepower he can breakthrough the Soviet defenses anywhere he wishes - a very effective tactic.
