Mogami has pretty much secured the Northern DEI, with only a few sporadic Dutch remnants.

And Southern DEI...

Timor may be a problem for Japan, has had seven months to prepare and is now blanketed by ample LBA from Australia.

Not much here...Mog deliberate attacks at Rahaeng and is repulsed. What's really glaring is look at the forces facing off here and look at the casualty figures. At Wuchow, 1500 artillery pieces of every size and description blast away daily at each other along a sixty mile front and a total of 98 men and a gun might have been damaged or destroyed. At Rahaeng, you have over 100,000 troops and 800 artillery pieces engaged in a deliberate engagement along the sixty mile front and 3,600 men are reported as casualties. 500 more guns are dueling at Tavoy and less than 400 casualties are reported.

A BB group speeding in at night and firing briefly (maybe 30 minutes) on Pago Pago does more damage than all these engagements combined. Hello? Give your head a shake.[8|]

Night Bombardments don't go on for 12 hours. Anyway, you are right...back to our match. I showing my lack of nicotine.

I got hammered by the LR CAP again. The attack vs LCUs resulted in another split so CAP had two cracks at my bombers...32 more go down. I had 16 fighters for escort, all assigned to Rahaeng and 2 fly. Doodee doo.[8D] I need more fighters with a range better than 2.

Mogami slaps the RAF at Rangoon. We've both been successful at catching each others assets on the ground in Burma. Must be our ability to muster overwhelming force on occasion due to large number of aircraft in theatre and large number of bases.

Stingray got off a report of CVL Zuiho heading SE towards the Marshalls a week or so ago but nothing since. Stingray is slowly making her way to Pearl after taking heavy damage from the fleet escorts. I wonder if this is Baby KB or perhaps a move towards the Canton Is/Pago Pago/Fiji line.

Looks like Mogami is going to attempt to capture Bali again. Can't hold out too long now given how isolated it is now.

Old I-153s flown by some marginal pilots lucked out and shot up some lightly escorted pigeons over Hengchow.

Some interesting troop dancing by Mogami near Wuchow has me guessing. Good thing I have a fairly sizeable force in reserve with which to respond to any concentration of force along the Wuchow Changsa axis.

Mogami was in fact making another attempt for Bali. I'm not sure where all his fighter cover is but the smallish CAP at Bali was not enough to keep the Allied Air Devils from wreaking havoc.

Pretty brutal day for both sides. I lost a whack of fighters in battles over Rahaeng and Hengchow. Mogami attempted to utilize shipping at Macassar and was hit pretty hard from the LBA which had hit Bali's invasion TF yesterday.

Bali is about to fall under overwhelming odds. The defenders of Tavoy and Rahaeng withstand shock attacks but lose a dispropportianate amount of troops, most likely due to the presence of enemy armour, if you can call the toys Japan uses armour.

The bases of Wuchow and Kweilin may be becoming untennable due to supply constraints. The road is bleeding what little supply is available at Kweiling so little is getting to the troops. Mogami is shunting troops into a gap between the two bases with the intent of utilizing the ZOC limitations which keep troops from retreating into contested hexes. This further lessens the viability of these two bases. I'd rather lose the bases than the troops any day. Perhaps a withdrawl?[;)]

Those are Japanese divisions. In wars after 1870 opposing armies deployed in what is known as a "front" a front is a continuos line of units protecting each others flank. Since you have deployed in "islands" you allow "pockets" where your units are surrounded. This is not an exploit of the game. It is an exploit of your troop deployment.

Hey, I'm a reporter and call them as I see 'em! [:D] Haahaa! No, I had a shitty final deployment there having to juggle troops all over China from Yenen to Wuchow by oxcart and am getting caught for it now. The ZOC rule is a bit one sided for the attacker though. Should be able to retreat into a hex with a friendly unit, why not?

To a degree it is.

I don't know what the defender is supposed to do in this game. If I play as one would a normal board game, where we would have stacking limits, understandable ZOCs and no dual occupation of hexes, I'd be able to utilize defences in depth, fronts, lines etc. In this game with this model you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. If I split the units and form a line, attacker simply concentrates into a death star due to no stacking limits and smashes the front at one point. If I were to concentrate, as I've had to here while waiting for units to rebuild and redeploy from Yenen sector, attacker simply sends in flanking units. Attempting to keep a path clear for retreat is near hopeless as Allies as well, because, given the fact that Allies can't realistically force Japan to retreat on too many occasions, once Japan moves troops into a hex generally they are not to be budged.

Anyway, I'm not saying you are exploiting the system here. What are you supposed to do, nothing? The fact that the game has weird ZOC issues which benefit attacker, among many others, and is not the attackers fault, it's a mechanics issue. The defender will get screwed in these cases...look at what happened to our Luzon Campaign.

The ZOC issue for contested hexes kept the units in Manila from withdrawing or retreating to Clark, also contested. So. Manila units were destroyed, then Clark units get hammered until they fell back to Bataan, then they fell in a day. Only way to avoid this is to constantly fall back without defending until all units are at Clark, hardly an award winning combat model.

Still trying to figure out concept behind leader ratings. This throws me off more...



The leader thing is beginning to run rampant in our game. Because I did not return a CV to satisfy RN withdrawl (CVL Hermes did not qualify), I'm in negative PPs and have been for over a month. During this time, I can't boot any leaders in weird situations, which I've been doing up to now.

This above example is a Chinese LT pilot commanding an USN Dorsey class DMS and is described as best suited to commanding an aircraft carrier. ?????[&:][8|] I'm at a loss.
