Thanks for the note. I see that you post in Jocke's AAR a lot so thanks for stopping in. I never mind those who read both, and it's nice to have a small post from time to time.

Getting this far is a little bit of everything. At the moment it is fun though. We're both interested in every turn more than the time over the past 6 months or so before this.

As usual the action opens with Es darting into the approach path and trying to get to Moppo before the BBs, hoping to sweep (and eat) some mines so the BBs won't. Three sub are dispatched in the first few engagements.

The BBs get to Moppo after only one of the Es TFs and two DDs hit mines right off the bat. That's not great.

Then B-29s then appear over Shimoneseki to lay some more packages in the sea. Luckily I'd just sent the BBs to another base, at least I hope they've left already. The 13 NF there don't get a shot at any of the beasts.

After this come the PTs. It's 89% moon so the PTs are not too effective. They run from the BB TF and they get absolutely plastered by the CAs. Even the Es do well agains them, probably as they'd lost some ops points and couldn't run around as much.

It was actually DDs with the CAs that hit mines here, unhappily, including the one of a kind Shimakaze.

On the day the Allies lose around 27 PT Boats. I think that is more than were lost to all causes in the war by the USN. [X(]

The BBs bombarded and got great hits on the engineers and support troops again, but it looks ilk the planes have been disbanded. If he was able to fly a few out this means that the groups itself is not lost for a few months, but the planes should be gone. Either way, the goal is to close the base, and it's a good thing the bombardments went in, as again ...

... the planes do not fly. [:-]

I noticed a message that flashed by too quickly during the replay, something about Moppo an canceled strikes. They are set from four different bases and all of the naval air is flying effortlessly around, over, and through the base. Don't get it. At least it's not critical this turn, but if this keeps happening it really takes away our means to keep the place suppressed.

Our LR CAP here manages to down an Avenger that also managed to fly to the hex. It's listed as light rain after the turn. Ok.

[EDIT: Looking at the CR I notice that sweeps did fly to Moppo and that the message given is 'Heavy rain,' so the bombers were again grounded for weather.

Helldivers later took out Shimakaze. Maikaze should make it back though.

After all of these turns running through heaps of Allied subs, a lone sub nails the Yamashiro with two TT on her way back to base. As shown below, the damage will likely put her out for the rest of the war. of the float damage 48 is major, which should take half a year to fix. Still, if we can keep the base closed, it's worth it.

In China air strikes completely destroyed a small cavalry unit moving toward the army stack. Of course, this is what I asked for, so I have to deal with it. [:)]

Jocke made a great move here getting about 2/3 of his forces out toward Psingyiang. He plastered a brigade in the clear and will probably move to Psingyiang now. Our four divisions there are supported by some prep from the many HQs next door including the Southern and China Expeditionary Command HQs. It'll be a tough hold. I'll try to get something across the border to open the hex. Fingers crossed.

I tend to follow AARs more on the Allied side as I enjoy that side of the war and know more about it. The production side is very intriguing as well.

I've always wondered how many subs the USN would had to a built to use all of the marine species there are.. I am sure millions.

What do you suppose the deal is with your planes not flying like you have mentioned..

As I don't play Japan, I wouldn't notice the TF screen art.

Is that Mogami dead in the water? That photo always sticks out in my mind when I think of Japanese WW2 ships.. and the flight decks of the Pearl Harbor strike.

Ah - that is not modeled.

I went through maybe ten the first time doing this, but this turn only was able to range about 2-3 groups before the option became disabled. Seems random. Has anyone seen this before?

Per 7.4.2.3 of the manual, you get to convert 1 per day, which matches my experience. What the manual doesn't explicitly state is that if you don't convert on a given day, the conversion accumulate for future use. However, there is a cap on the accumulation, IIRC it's 7.

Ah - that is not modeled.

It's interesting that the LR CAP flies there isn't it. I get it, the strike probability is different, but it's just a tad frustrating after four days of waiting.

For these things I wish there was an over-ride with an understanding that ops losses would be greater and accuracy lessened, when you just have to get there now! I wish a lot of things though. Have to play the game as it is, so I'll keep tweaking and adjusting.

[EDIT: Just reading through the CR and some sweeps did fly in and found 'Heavy rain' over Moppo. So it is weather again.]

Thank you. I've not read that part at all. That seems about right, except lately I'm able to do two a day and that's every day. The first time it may have been up to seven groups. Felt like more.

I'll keep plugging away with this until all of the training groups can also fly standard CAP. Since I'm losing around 300 to withdrawals soon (!!!!) I'll need everything I can use.

The Carp puts two torps into the Yamashiro and she's out of the fight for a good while, most likely for good. I have two more BBs repairing which should be ready within a week. There are still at least 30 subs within the 3-4 hexes around Moppo. How many are there???

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]KOREA: [/font] The garrison is nearing 20k AV now. More is on the way. If I can get 4x Allied strength it might just be possible to push them back. Not sure about that, and the supply needed might be too much, but I'll make preparations just in case there is an opportunity. Right now the Allied troops have stopped on either side of the Moppo hex as if waiting. If the fields at Moppo can ever be hit by air I'll then switch some planes to bombing the troops. We'll see how much good AA he brought. I'm sure it's a lot. I might be able to get some good bombardments thought too on the ones to the East of Moppo.

The battles on the sea went mostly for the IJN during this turn, but the loss of Yamashiro colors that a bit. It was inevitable to get something hit after a while. Too many subs. The pressure will stay on with small craft and Es tomorrow trying to take out as many PTs as possible while the moon is bright. I see more being led up from Oikinawa by a CVE TF as well. How many do the Allies get? I'll post the last months sunk ship lists soon. Pretty amazing.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]STRAT BOMBING:[/font] The B-29s drop another full load of mines at Shimoneski. It's be a while before we can clear those out. Still working on Fusan, but Fukuoka is cleared.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]HOME ISLANDS: [/font] The P-47s come en masse to Kyushu but about 1/4 of them don't make it back. This is an outstanding result against these planes, and I'm sure the pilots were very good. Our Sams and Franks did yoemans work, some way down at 10k, but when the P-47s got down there late in the engagements there were a lot of good planes waiting for them. We can take this for a while, but once the bombing starts to follow it could get dicey.

We're taking the day off from bombarding, getting TFs realigned to get some escorts in them. We're definitely running low on DDs now, but another 27 knot Matsu class arrives, really only about as good as a US DE, but they'll do.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]RECON: [/font] I haven't seen any recon of Northern Korean bases, so maybe this is really a reinforcement of Moppo trying to get in there.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] The Allied move into the flat was smart, and now they can move to challenge our four divisions in Psingyiang or move NE to further conquests. About 17 units are left in the hex with our army. I'm not going to bombard just yet. I'm toying with the idea of a DA right off the bat, but I'll see where supply is tomorrow before pulling the trigger. The goals are still being met though, as the main Allied air force is still here and not farther North.

Near Samah Norms found a small TF of LSTs and sank a few. It will now move on North to add tot eh search capability in the East China Sea.
