The DEI is not a very important area at all right now, obviously. Interestingly though, the HI is still producing at Singers. I'm moving most planes out that can fly long distance to get the fighters to the HI and the search planes pumping up the DL on the Allied fleets. I lose 4-5 a day at least making sure we know where they are and what they are.

I haven't used anything in this area for a very long time, so it was probably a bit surprising to see Norms hitting a small troop convoy moving along the Chinese coast. No CAP up at all around here. Some Jacks are moving through as well, so if strikes come in to hit this base next turn there will be a surprise here for them.

The Allied fleet moved slightly South and West. Not sure if they are retiring to think again, if this is a feint preceding a big move somewhere, or if it was just to see if the KB or LBA would react to their presence.

Also a small CVE TF is leading PTs up from Okinawa.

The next turn is back. I'll be running it sometime this afternoon. Have to work now!

Not sure even now what will work consistently. Earlier I was also suffering at a 1:5 deficiency or worse some turns, with only a few bright spot turns that got 1:2 or so. Mostly I tried layering. I think though with the P-47 what I figured out was that the layering has to be specific, so the most maneuverable planes low, and something very good up high to meet them. Other times I actually just put it all at max height hoping the numbers would help. Sometimes they did.

With a max altitude at 32k it is a bit more evened out, but in this example the CAP was low at 10-20k. Maybe having so many planes that low, drawing the beasts down, but still having some up high to dive in the middle of the fur ball can work. It just keeps changing though. The P-47N presents a difficult problem. It usually gets so many kills early it then just scoots out and there is no time to get them in the mass of defenders late.

For this one I also had a lot of LR CAP set to stay over the shipping and they got involved all over, so maybe it was also drawing new planes with each strike. Small numbers of the KB CAP also got over to get involved, and those pilots are pretty good. Here is the complete CR for the first sweep.

Earlier I experimented with a low CAP and it was not too successful, but this did work (as well as can be expected) even without radar in the target hex. Interesting.

The most successful moment of the day was when the Franks made it over at 32k though. Even more interesting.

The Jacks that engaged first at 10k must had drawn them down, then the Franks and others pounced getting a good dive. The Franks reacting so quickly to get there in 9 minutes also helps. So while the right conditions existed for this throughout the turn used on settings, it only came together perfectly to give the defenders an advantage once during the set of sweeps (which may of course represent different aspects of one simultaneous battle).

The turn replay opened with some MLs picking off mines almost one by one! it took a while, but they got a bunch. Finally learning what these things are good for. I have one AM left and they can go into a minesweeping TF with it. I have there posted there to see if they'll sweep even in a SCTF.

Next some Allied cruisers showed up and plowed through a bunch of Es. Some shots hit Helena, and I thought maybe they'd be sowed by the combat and some damage, but they moved on easily and were only in range of some kamis set from Nagasaki that didn't fly7 hexes to et them. Probably as they ended up two hexes from the Allied fleet.

Corsairs showed up today, but somehow the stars aligned and they were consistently mauled. It was a fun thing to watch. [:)]

Unfortunately Jocke is careful and sends some sweeps before the bombers to take on the sudden fighters at Samah. I managed to still extract five or so planes so the group will not have to be withdrawn, which was the goal. I also waned Jocke to have to think of protecting things in the Chinese area again. I hadn't challenged anything in a while there in the air.

Now for the main event ... finally they flew to target!!![&o][&o][&o]

Also on the air strike agenda or today was hitting some tasty convoys in the South China Sea. I figured not much would be covering them, so Graces moved ito Formosa and hit hard, likely sinking about 10-12 xAK. nothing huge, but every little bit helps. If we were playing for VPs it's these kinds of strikes that would keep the Japanese in it late.

The Corsairs kept coming, probably 300+ on the day, although I haven't counted. Ours Franks, Sams and Jacks kept shooting them down though, and on the day it's a positive result for the first time in memory against the Allied sweeps!!! [X(]

I'm sure the P-47N will make an appearance tomorrow in an attempt to exact some retribution. Will we also see a Hail Mary somewhere? That is the pattern.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]KOREA: [/font] Finally the strikes hit Moppo. The Allied divisions that moved out of Masan have joined with their Armor. No movements up yet toward Gunzan. That base now has around 4k AV.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]STRAT BOMBING:[/font] Nothing today.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]HOME ISLANDS: [/font] The sweeps off Kyushu get to and down a reported 110 out of 207 sweepers today!!! Holy CAP! We lose a total of 91 fighters globally. Of course only about 35 pilots are KIA, with a bunch more wounded. The rest got some great exp and kills. I'll have to check to see if we now have a new leading ace.

That is not usual. Whatever is going on I'm going to keep it going. I won't get ahead of myself or do too many cartwheels about this one turn. It's a long game and we don't have any P-47s to fly on our side. So tomorrow could be as bad as this was good. Five major fighter groups, including the 97 plane Ki-83 group formerly based in Fusan, had to withdraw. Big hurt.

Sure. Will do.

The pilot advantage will take a long time to swing in my direction. notice the losses totals: 41,987 to 21,429. He's gotten a lot of kills, and a lot of aces I'm sure.

I've mostly fought over my bases though, so pilot losses only just went over 20k recently. Still many very good ones around, especially after having to disband some groups. I will now make a golden Ki-83 group with about 60 of the best.

This is from a few turns ago. I'm counting the MIA as lost, so it's seemingly pretty low for the amount of airframes lost. (this is from a few days ago as well).

Here is one of the groups I had to withdraw. Not happy about it.

Good pilots for the pool at least. But yea, that sucks to have to pull units like that. Have you thought about keep one or two around and just paying the PP cost? Or are PP's being used to send Home Islands infantry to Korea?

There are still too many things I'd like to use PPs for, and it's pretty expensive. I have enough free troops now without paying extra. It also helps that for the past two days the results have been really good, most likely cooling the enthusiasm for sweeps in the next few.

Most of the PPs right now go to turning training units to kami/CAP. All of the F/FB training units will go this route. I might need a lot more later to turn other training units to kami as well. I still change a lot of group leaders, ship captains and TF commanders, even for small TFs. Right now PPs are hovering around 350.
