(1) The Western allies moves into and through Turkey is focused on the objective city of Istanbul.
(2) Control of Turkey is not the objective but beating the Soviets to the "liberation" of Istanbul is.
(3) The Soviets do want to conquer Turkey in order to eliminate the threat of the Turkish army and trapped the remaining German forces there.

(1) Last (allied) impulse broke the back of the axis.
(2) In executing this impulse it's apparent that it's over for Germany.
(3) The only hope for Germany is the number of objective cities that they hold on to at the end of next turn.

(1) At this point it's about which allied power will control what.
(2) German is finished but they will fight on in the hopes of the final scoring end of next turn.
(3) Does give an historical fell to the situation on why Germany fought on well after they knew that they lost the war.
