The Kaga, heavily escorted with 2 ASW TFs, and 20 ships mostly destroyers shepherding her back to Babeldoab. She picked up a knot of speed today.
Yesterday an AR joined her task force. Alfred posits that the ship provides no extra damage control while at sea in a task force...but it is comforting.
Kaga will probably disband and go into pierside at Babeldoab to reduce the system damage a bit before legging back to Honshu.
Allies already have heavy concentration of subs watching the repair yards at Honshu.

AA range - If his LBs are coming in under 10k that will allow some medium AA to hit them. Above 10k means just your heavy AA. So Jocke needs to either go up 1k or 2k or down more and get better results, but take more damaged/destroyed bombers, IMO.

They are dropping at 9K, 2K above the 25mm guns. There is a big gap from 7k to 25K...in fact there is nothing there (ok, maybe 10 guns at 8k for the entire Empire). In truth he could come down 1-2K more and be okay...but lets not tell him, ok?

Sept 30, 1943
Quiet day...lost an E to a sub, no traps worked, and Kaga finished pumping all the counter flooding out so only major float damage left of 28.

Saving damaged ships is one of the more entertaining games within the game for the Japanese. Allied players really have no appreciation of how careful you have to be to save a ship with even moderate damage much less major damage. Saving a ship is one of those little victories that keeps you going.

Ain't that the truth![:D] I almost never scuttle a ship, but move heaven and earth to save them.

Jocke has the turn, and probably a quick turnaround too.
Really looking forward to the new month: faster r&d; new planes, and over the next several months a serious strengthening of Japan overall.
I haven't fully recovered from my West Coast debacle, but feel like the period of maximum danger has passed....and I am in much better shape than I thought I would be.

In all my games as IJN I have never scuttled a ship until my last turn.. it was at 99 Fire and at a dot base.. I also enjoy the repair game. Like Lowpe said - its a small victory every time.

Targeted naval search again pulls out a miracle strike against no fighter escort...this is the task force that was just at Port Blair.
Were they loading or unloading?

You really have me sold on the Lilly. I only built them in small numbers in my previous game. They will get more attention in a future game. They are perfect in this role. Now if they just carried 2 800kg bombs ...

Still, those are some of the most valuable ships in the allied arsenal at this point in the game - LSI(L)s and the APAs are invaluable to the allies. Jocke has to cringe seeing those strikes!

Since they are loaded, there is a chance the two with heavy fires burn up!
And, yes, hopefully it buys time and delays the inevitable next invasion...as I won't be using the IJN to stop anything here I think. Although, I am somewhat doubtful that it will buy a lot of time.

Incredibly versatile strike plane - almost always can get hits and the hits do device damage very frequently. Perhaps its best ability is attacking the Fletcher task forces that start to raid...but they are incredibly weak planes, and get shot down with the greatest of ease. So extreme care needs to be used with them.
I would gladly trade 10 for 1 Fletcher...

Our estimate is 92 days in port for the Kaga...we shall see if I can speed that up some. Most likely means she will return to service with all the new carriers arriving in Jan 1944.
My first batch of AR ships finish converting soon, as of now I only have the original two...not nearly enough.
You can really create super repair facilities by putting several AR in a large shipyard with plentiful naval support...outstanding for repairing system damage very quickly.
