I have moved more interceptors to Singapore. A battlegroup with 2 battleships,
3 heavy, 2 light and 6 destroyers is based there.

Our carriers are repairing slowly, Taiho at 9 and the other 3 fleet cvs at 23-34
sys damage. Not sure what I will use it for: keep it as a strategic reserve and try
to keep Andy on his toes most likely. Don't want to loose my remaning bird farms unless
I have to. Updated one of the cvls and she now got 862 AA rating. Not bad!

240 Oscar IIs are in the pools again and in 5 days most of my disbandoned Sentais will
return. Then we got our cannon fodder in place.

the score seems pretty close considering your previous success and the fact that it seems the allies havn't really taken much back (i don't own WitP so i don't know how the allies usually look at this juncture)

any idea what it would be if you didn't have the brit asian holdings?

You can only imagine how many points the Allies earn from the turkey shoots of 43-44....
The loss of so many carriers also cost a lot of points. I would guess that some 10k points would swap hands
if I didn't hold all of India. Then the score would have been even by now.

All in all I don't think the standing is bad, especially since I've not captured all of China.
I don't pay much attention to the score, if I had I would have been much more reluctant in regards to sending
my ac into combat[;)]

Allies also win a lot of points from strategic bombing, fortunately we haven't seen much of that - yet!

More testing of the ac/pilot replacement issue:
I was able to provide replacements for a Zeke unit at Wake Island with 10k supplies.
Wake got an Air HQ attached to the Burma Area Army and the Zeke Daitai belongs to the Southern Area.
Still not possible to provide supplies to air units at Clark with 19500 supplies even though Manila holds a Southern Area Air HQ and got 40k supplies.

Forget the Air HQs, they don't matter at all! What counts is the Command HQ the BASE is assigned to - not the squadron. 20.000 supplies must be either at the Command HQ's base, or at the base you want to draw replacements itself.

Locate the Command HQ to which Wake is assigned. It should be within transfer range, and have more than 20.000 supplies. Either that, or I'm completely lost myself. [;)]

PzB, your score is still good. To win at the historical date, Andy will have to score 100 000 points in one year. Allied is brutal in 1945 but probably can't score so much (if anything else, by lack of targets).

So you may be the first Japanese player to last after August 1945 in an PBEM (at least in an AAR). Or the first player to lose Tokyo (same conditions).

By the way I still think that Andy did a mistake by not landing back in India as soon had he had CV superiority. Liberating the British Army from its warp prison under Karachi or Bombay should have been one of its top objective.

Where is nearest base with 20k supplies?

Yes, I don't worry about the score, Andy needs to invade - and capture - the Home Islands to win on KO.
India was heavily, heavily defended 6 months ago. Only since then I've evacuated divisions from there as the
danger of invasion passed - according to my understanding of the strategic situation that is![:'(]

Closest base with 20k supplies to Wake? Must be....the Marianas - and that's more than 20 hexes away, right!?

I am moving my ships and ac out from Soerabaja, with enemy LBA as nearest neighbour there's no use hangin'
around [8|] Batavia, Palembang, Northern Borneo is the next line. Java is relatively lightly defended.
A lot of size 9 forts will make an invasion expensive. Mostly I want to prevent Soerabaja from falling into Allied
hands. 250 fighters at Palembang and Singapore now.

Still no signs of enemy Mustangs, even though I know they are available.
Andy may be saving them...or he may not have any units that can be upgraded [&o]
Does anyone know when the first P51 equipped squadrons arrive and what their escort/sweep range is?
Got a feeling that if the Corsair was bad, the Mustang will be the Gross Gotterdammerung.... [:'(]

I don't know what the range is on the B, but I've been facing the P-51D for a couple of months now and it's a terror!

Swats my Franks and Georges out of the sky - I was saving the night fighters with heavy guns for B-29s but never get a chance to intercept freely.

Of course, I've lost Iwo (Mariannas still held by Japan) - so it's open season on the Home Islands.

12/44 and score is 71K to 56K - the Empire is still on top, but it's looking pretty bleak...

(edit) - Mine's a PDU game, so Andy may be waiting for the groups to activate. No such luck for me [:(]

Invading the Bonin Islands without taking the Marianas first is quite far fetched.
Realistically it would have been impractical to say the least.

I'm hesistant at basing more than 20-30k troops on an atoll, the issue is that nothing prevents
your opponent from landing a full Army Group with 150k troops there. Kinda difficult with house rules, so both
sides have to show some common sense me thinks.

If I didn't care about restricting my game play to achieve a more historical game, 50k troops would be placed on Bonin and Iwo Jima and that
would be it [;)]

Formosa or Okinawa's would be a more suitable target, but still a bit far fetched if the Marianas and/or Luzon wasn't captured first.
That's the approach I will follow in my Allied pbem games. It should be possible to impose a game restriction that caused massive casualties to
the defender/attacker on atolls if the number of troops exceeded a certain number. This would force the attacker to land in waves and evacuate

True enough - but you know as well as I do that if (and when) the Allies send a carrier TF to escort transports, it becomes a no-fly zone. Period.

So, the Allies can pack up as much as they want and send it where ever they wish.

Deep penetration invasions of 3-6 Divisions are quite simple for the Allies.

Not realistic - but the Allied CAP simply cannot be penetrated in the stock game.

Of course, I'm preaching to the choir here [:D]

P51D got a normal range of 555 miles (9 hexes) and an extended range of 740 miles (12 hexes).
It's a dangerous toy, but there are only a few units scheduled to arrive late in the war!
So perhaps the menace won't be complete. Gawd knows I don't need it [;)]

So you haven't tried out the 'high altitude' Kamikazes to counter the Uber CAP and deep strikes?

Yes, but like you I limit its use and only use untrained pilots. And always in conjunction with a real strike (it doesn't seem fair to have a completely unopposed strike, but then I'm getting the crap mined out of me and there's nothing I can do about that.

The few hits I've gotten do no real damage to speak of with Zekes (Betties and Helens are another matter [;)]). But, Zekes are completely useless in any other roll. I hate them...

I do leave some Zekes on kami mission in Northern Borneo in case Andy sends his carriers on a deep strike.
Would only be logical that he should run some risks!

Have you managed to assemble major aviation units in Japan? I'm still quite low actually.

I'm considering to let the Yamatos undertake their 6/44 upgrades. Will probably
boost their AA armament from 640 to ca 1000 and upgrade their radars.

Quite incredible: We haven't lost a single of the large Akatsuki class fleet destroyers yet!
They are actually small CLAAs with a AA rating of 402!

A new Bde arrived in the Home Islands, it has been slated for Iwo Jima as my little talk with
Blurking made me a bit anxious. Bonin is well defended, but Iwo got place for another LCU. This
will take the number of defendes up from 18500 to some 25000 men.

The 1st Armoured Division in Davao has now been slated for Formosa. It will be replaced by units
withdrawn from Morotai and bases in Northern Guinea. A full Panzer Div on Luzon and Formosa makes
sense to me. Should also send a couple of tank regiments to the Home Islands. Andy is fielding a lot
of tanks in his latest assaults. A tank regiment has already been sent to Malaya.

Air HQs

More strangeness: Look at this screenshot!
The 23rd and 24th Air Flotillas, both attached to the Soutern Area Army. Range: 1 hex.
The 24th was based on Clark Field with 19k supplies, and the 24th in Manila with 50k supplies.

Only my air groups in Manila were allowed to draw replacement ac/pilots.
I got tired of this and moved the 24th Air Flotilla to Clark Field - and voila - all air units can
again draw ac/pilot replacements.

I think these findings indicate that Joe & Co may have to take a closer look at how Air HQ actually influences
air/pilots replacements in bases with more and less than 20k supplies. It certainly makes very little sense to me!

I just ran a quick test in my own game.

I had a squadron of Mohawks at Lahaina (7.000 supplies). Both the unit and the base were assigned to CentPac (at Pearl Harbor), and I could draw reinforcements. I changed Lahaina to West Coast HQ, and immediately thereafter I could not draw reinforcements anymore. Then I moved a squadron of A-29s to Lahaina, which have a transfer range of 46 in CHS. Because San Francisco (with the West Coast HQ) is 44 hexes away from Lahaina, I was able to draw reinforcements!

So I still think the manual is (for once) correct: it's not the Air HQ that matters, but the HQ the BASE is assigned to. If this HQ is within transfer range and has more than 20.000 supplies, then you can draw replacement in bases with less than 20.000 supplies.

I can only guess that by moving another HQ unit to Clark, the base increased its supply level beyond 20.000.
