Lots of ordnance dropped on Port Blair but we're still unloading troops and supplies.
I have merged a new large division in Singapore and all routed divisions have been rebuilt.
Our reserves are ready and new units are being shipped out constantly.

Biggest concern is that vast pilot reserve pool; it draws on HE reserves that go down each month.
Down to 650k and counting.

At least we know were ALL enemy carriers are; Line Islands

Enemy Car Divs

I counted something like 10 CV, 10 CVL and 30 CVEs in the visible stacks on the map here.
Much as expected, Central Pacific is enemy Pri 1. This means amph landings in Andamans and SRA regions are not likely.

PzB, are you aware of the discussion which has uncovered the 200 firing pass limit vs bombers?

I'm asking because based on what that discussion has uncovered that CV gathering may actually be a lot more vulnerable than you think ( given the massive numbers involved in later-war battles ).

Of course this works both ways and goes a long way to explaining why four-engined bomber losses are often so low when used en masse.

Looking ahead

August 45 it's Stalin time!
- I'm already looking ahead planning optimal defensive deployment.

Since China is quiet area this region will not be touched; I'm going to honor that agreement by keeping the bulk of China troops in theater.
How many divisions in China do you think should remain there even when Russians invade? A certain paid release of troops to the east like in real life should be expected.

In Manchukuo I'm going to quickly fall back to a wall of rugged and rough defensive lines running from Harbin and south to the Pacific.
To the north I will have certain strongpoints and mobile reserves around Changchun.

As long as we're not outmanouvered and cut of I will attempt to delay and perform a flexible defense using the rough terrain and prepared defensive hubs marked with reds circles.
When no longer possible we will retreat to the Korean peninsula; by defending only 2-3 hexes of rough terrain we should be able to stall there at least.

How many of our armored divisions should be shipped back to Manchukuo in mid 45?
How many divisions should we use for our 45-46 campaign in Manchukuo?

Hm, don't expect an easy time there now.
Our tank divs are currently upgrading to Medium tank Type 3.
It's crap but a big step up from the previous types.

A fact that favors the defender with combined LBA and carrier air groups!?

But I was not aware of a 200 fire limit - wonder how Andy will deploy to get around this.
For the KB I'm still waiting for the Grace; 2 more weeks and she goes into production.
- Plan is still to hang back, rely on LBA and 8 hex KB strikes from the shadows.

As long as KB is a strong force in being Andy's hands will remain tied to his mega sized operations outside of LBA protection.

Spotted formation heading west from Christmas today. No doubt Andy will continue his advance in Central Pacific.
I consider Midway - Marshalls - New Britain - Central New Guinea to be likely targets throughout 1944.

He should try to strike into japanese economy directly. Most probably target now would be Philippines.
The other possibility is DEI oil, and Japan itself.

CVs are probably waiting for invasion fleets, you could try to catch some ships east of them.

So... what kind of PB was it? SS use 6 torpedoes on like Cruiser at least?

The Akitsuku class destroyers will have 485 AA rating after their 7-44 upgrade.
That's light cruiser class; should help complement our lack of heavy escorts.

25mm MGs will not help much. They do not have enough power to down armored aircraft.

Considering tanks quality, the best place for your Panzer Divisions is where there are NO Allied tanks [:D]
I would estimate, that when Japanese Tank Division will meet Soviet Tank Corps, it will cease to exist in two days. On the other side, Soviet squads have least Anti-Tank capability of all Allied squads (except Chinese).
I have not checked late war Japanese reinforcements, but there are definitely large mortars in device database (like 200-300mm). Check when they arrive, and send some to Manchuria. When Soviets will lose few thousand people for every bombardment they will exhaust their offensive capabilities quickly.

Has to open the door to the Philippines first; that means Malaya - Burma or through SRA / DEI.
Today small units invaded an empty dot base far south of Tarawa. Guess the invasion fleets will be coming soon.

PB's are rebuilt freighters; probably a 2000 tonner or so.

The Akitsuki's got 8 fast firing 3.9 DP guns that are better than what most cruisers can field against ac.
Together with a hevy suit of smaller AA, deptch charges, high speed, durability etc they are the best escorts arund.

Indeed, but backed up by infantry, rough terrain and heavy fortifications even Jap tank divisions should be able to contribute.
Also, they move quickly and a reserve of 4 divisions in the form of a Tank Army will provide much needed reserves.
- Yeah, got lots of arty to move in as well. I will be slowly building up the Manchukuo front line defenses, arrange secondary lines, reserves
and the fall back line in the Korean peninsula. By mid 45 I will have increased garrison size considerably.

Southern Gilberts

Andy is moving closer to Tarawa; we hit an APD today.
Tarawa is well defended, 1 Naval garrison, 1 full strength Bde plus Base force units.

We're currently able to field a strategic reserve of 8 crack divisions.
Numerous more are bound up in Burma - Malaya - SRA - DEI - PIs - Marianas region.

My plan is to divide the 8 divisions into 2 Armies: One will be based in Singapore and the other in Davao.
There will be sufficient transports, supplies and escort available in order to sail on a few days notice.

It will be impossible to prevent the Allies from landing and perhaps capturing any base in our defesive lines unless we counterattack
and reinforce our garrison. All the garrisons are only in place to delay the enemy and discourage all but full strength invasions.
- Simply to many bases to defend them all with 2-3 divisions worth of troops.

The Combined Fleet is soon a formidable force and together with our very strong LBA a match and then some for the Allied navies.
Davao is close enough to all our main defensive positions as possible with Manila as a major size 9 port just nearby.

Getting closer to Tarawa

Well well, Andy goes all after our Bangkok area airodromes.
We had ca 800 fighters dispersed on 2 major bases and 3 supporting ones.

Big sized air to air combat is pretty messed up.
Enemy could easily penetrate our massed fighter defenses but enemy sweeps were inefficient and our fighters were not destroyed on the ground.
While our bases were closed enemy losses were more than double ours including 115 fighters and 80 heavy bombers.

We lost 25 KIA pilots - not bad!
I have to move our air units out until we can fix damage; been planning another air defensive zone further south in Malaya so we're A-OK! [8D]

The carrier Aso also arrives, boosting our carrier strength even further.
Another 34 days and our last CV and CVL arrive. 2 light cruisers and we only got small CVEs and destroyer / sub replacements left.

Bangkok - Wasps nest

Andy sent his fatigued fighters on another round to escort his bombers against bases in Burma - Malaya as shown on the map.
Only takes ~100 4Es to close a place for a week and it's impossible to stop the bombers but we still come up ahead.
- Defending over friendly turf we loose 18 KIA pilots and send 50 more Thuds to Kingdom come.

In general I need dozens of bases with capacity to relocate and repair quickly.

Tried to bombard enemy Chindits from sea and air while attacking with our reinforced garrison.
Enemy light troops still double their defensive value while we half ours - causing us large casualties.
Will take 3 divisions worth of troops to dislodge them.

Carrier Kasagi arrives, just 1 CV and 1 CVL left in the yards now.
Switching production to more subs and accelerated destroyers.

It seems Andy is using older airframes for now, maybe he prepares slowly to another serious strike soon? But he will need first to rest, and rearm his airwings.

Does those Es even have any serious guns to bombard?
I am actually wondering about OOB of Allied units. How much guns are there? Probably no larger, so you should easily outrange them with Independent Artillery Units.
Also, how much AA weapon does they have? Maybe some strafing would give better results?

My plan is to divide the 8 divisions into 2 Armies: One will be based in Singapore and the other in Davao.
There will be sufficient transports, supplies and escort available in order to sail on a few days notice.

It will be impossible to prevent the Allies from landing and perhaps capturing any base in our defesive lines unless we counterattack
and reinforce our garrison. All the garrisons are only in place to delay the enemy and discourage all but full strength invasions.
- Simply to many bases to defend them all with 2-3 divisions worth of troops.

Seems reasonable. I would probably put some troops on Borneo but ships can be somewhat exposed there. The main question is the targets those Division should start planning. I wonder if you should worry about Truk, and Peleliu. Ambon should be sure thing.

PS. Oh, and it seems there is no enemy troops between Moulmein, and Pegu. Maybe some supply cutting?
And... there are Japanese troops at Akyab? Does they have supply? Have you actually checked all bases in Burma? There are lots of them, and it is possible some are lightly defended. If you could catch one of them, with planes still on airfield... [8D]

More of the same; Allied bombers hit Bangkok and a unhappy Beaufighter units probably strafe the place by mistake.

Andy has rested and prepared for his major strike - on Bangkok area.
He can't keep bombing both Port Blair while at the same time suppressing Bangkok region.
- A single attack on 5 airfields have closed them for weeks though but as soon as I've sorted out and repaired the damaged air units
we will be able to return all 800 and cause havoc at any given day.

It's not about killig of the enemy pilots and aircraft, it's about closing their airfields with a single nuke attack by a low number 4Es.
The abstration of dozens of airfields into one large is a poor one, guess it's the best that could be made.

Nah, the Es had some 12cm guns - just to create some disruption and spot enemy troops.
Air landing units in Port Blair doesn't have heavy guns and should be possible to suppress after living in the jungle for a month, but not so.
I can't strafe them either, only bombers can reach them from Malaya and Port Blair is and will remain closed for Jap air business.
- Takes weeks to reopen the place and one air strikes to close it again.

Sending reinforcements to Java in general, need to keep ships away from enemy Super forts.
Can always prep the divs for some targets, but it would be pure bingo to prep for the same targets as Andy!

Just a few para squads at Akyab, Andy hasn't cared about wiping them out.
I've given up on capturing a base; even 10 chefs when in rough terrain with 5 forts is enough to stall a para attack by 1000 troops and by next
day it's to late. Need to rest and refit the para units now...but yes, I'm always looking for opportunities [:)]

I agree. Same result I had with my Downfall testing ... once you get >400 ac in a combat, you can get really unpredictable results. Not biased one way or the other, just unpredictable. It looks to me like model boundary conditions, but maybe that's what was wanted. No dev has ever commented on this.

Nope, but I have included it in my personal mod (based upon Nemo's Armegeddon) and I know others have as well. I think because when the dev's looked at the IJ endgame, they were a bit too restrictive. Meaning, they were looking too much at historical type outcomes. If the IJ does about historical, there is no HI to build the G8N ... 4E's are really expensive, so not including them is fine. You won't build them anyway, you need to build fighers and kami's.

BUT, if the IJ does much better than historical (like you or how Rader was doing until he lost Hokkaido), then IJ has PLENTY of HI to build up an impressive force of G8N's. And these G8N's would be handy in further delaying the inevitable.

That's acutally a disadvantage Allies; unpredictability in late war after heavy losses is just what they cannot afford!

Yep, and I'm producing hundreds of bombers a month right now; could easily prioritized 200 4Es instead of 400 naval bombers over a 2 month period.
It's also said that;

The initial prototype was completed in October 1944 and delivered to the Navy for testing in January 1945, a mere one year after the Navy ordered development to start. Three further examples were completed by June 1945, with the third prototype being destroyed on the ground by US carrier aircraft.[2]

Other than minor problems with the turbosuperchargers, the Renzan performed satisfactorily and the Navy hoped to have a total of 16 prototypes and 48 production-version G8N1s assembled by September 1945. But the worsening war situation and a critical shortage of light aluminum alloys led to the project's cancellation in June.[2]

One proposed variant was the G8N2 Renzan-Kai Model 22, powered by four 2,200 hp Mitsubishi MK9A radial engines and modified to accept attachment of the air-launched Ohka Type 33 Special Attack Bomber.[2]

Just prior to Japan's surrender in August 1945 consideration was also briefly given to producing an all-steel version of the aircraft, to be designated G8N3 Renzan-Kai Model 23, but the cessation of hostilities precluded any further development.[2]

After the war, one prototype was taken to the United States[3][4] and scrapped after testing. None are in existence today.

If this is correct we got 2 production models planned even at war's end:

G8N1 : Four-engine heavy bomber. Production version.
G8N2 : Modified to carry Ohka Type 33 Special Attack Bomber. Four Mitsubishi MK9A radial engines.
G8N3 : All-steel airframe.

Removing this ac from the Jap production list is therefore completely wrong in my humble opinion.
Would have been much more realistic to meet the this bomber than a "Kikka" in the skies in 1945-46...

Air landing units in Port Blair doesn't have heavy guns and should be possible to suppress after living in the jungle for a month, but not so.
I can't strafe them either, only bombers can reach them from Malaya and Port Blair is and will remain closed for Jap air business.

You can always strafe with bombers, or place some FPs nearby (I think you should have 3 units of some crappy Float Fighter). Not that any of this will be especially effective [:D]

Been having problems unloading 1500 supplies at Port Blair; the amph TF is docked and hardly able to unload.
The 2 small old escorts fended of an attack by 2 large enemy destroyers today.

Try undocking them. I think docked amphibious TF lose its unloading bonus

Looking ahead

August 45 it's Stalin time!
- I'm already looking ahead planning optimal defensive deployment.

Since China is quiet area this region will not be touched; I'm going to honor that agreement by keeping the bulk of China troops in theater.
How many divisions in China do you think should remain there even when Russians invade? A certain paid release of troops to the east like in real life should be expected.

In Manchukuo I'm going to quickly fall back to a wall of rugged and rough defensive lines running from Harbin and south to the Pacific.
To the north I will have certain strongpoints and mobile reserves around Changchun.

As long as we're not outmanouvered and cut of I will attempt to delay and perform a flexible defense using the rough terrain and prepared defensive hubs marked with reds circles.
When no longer possible we will retreat to the Korean peninsula; by defending only 2-3 hexes of rough terrain we should be able to stall there at least.

How many of our armored divisions should be shipped back to Manchukuo in mid 45?
How many divisions should we use for our 45-46 campaign in Manchukuo?

Hm, don't expect an easy time there now.
Our tank divs are currently upgrading to Medium tank Type 3.
It's crap but a big step up from the previous types.

I never quite understood why Allied players play quite China. Even if China is eventually lost, (as it is about to be in my campaign) an active front there will eat up Japanese supply, manpower and divert planes that could be used elsewhere. I can't see where it benefits the Allies at all. It seems to me that quite China would free up a lot of Japanese troops as there are plenty of troops in China that are not restricted and could be moved out to other theaters.

Anyways I think you are doing the decent thing-exercising some restraint in shifting forces.

Once the SOV are engaged, I think you can commit any/all of the china troops anywhere on the continent. 
 
Once SOV starts to push, you have to hold the Korean penninsula to Shanghai as long as you can.  That means shortening your lines as best you can.  SOV is clearly an animal, VERY tough to stop if rader's AAR is any indication.
 
You also need a huge PP reserve as you will want to bring as many of those units back to the HI for the final defense as you can.

If we didn have quiet China it's very possible the game would have been over by now.
A Jap victory in China would have given the points needed for auto-victory...
- So kinda two edged sword really!

If Allies are not a great threat to Home Islands and innef defens perimeter by Soviet activation I will divert reserves.

The AKL was bugged, it refused to unload after being docked, undocked, disbanded and created in a new TF.
Had to RTB and it was sunk enroute.

The Rita looks like a B-17, B-25 kinda combo integrated with Jap technology.

Strafing from long range isn't very efficient and basing float planes at Port Blair only see them blown up.

We got some action, we're now into July 44 and during the last week Andy captured Arawe in New Britain with paras.
We counter attacked with paras, failed - rallied and recaptured the base and defeated 1000 allied troops including a base force.

Allied expansion in Solomon - New Guinea is slow. Andy is taking his time building up for a great push.
Smaller attacks are stalled and turned back easily.

As we get into the 2nd half of the year I prepare to send Combined Fleet ships through the last upgrades of the war.
By end of August this will be completed and our destroyer and submarine fleets will also have been considerably strengthened.

It seems Rabaul will be next target. Andy tries to get some additional bases cheaply, and when you commit transports to retake them, Allied CVs will show up.


A few more things about Soviets:
Remember that once activated, Japan will be in range of Soviet planes. You should prepare your AA units for bases in western coast.
But that also have a positive thing, as your permanently restricted air units in Japan, can be used offensively over Soviet ground. Armored OSCARS should have quite an advantage against I-15.

And most important thing - get some forces to Sakhalin. Once activated you should be able to retake whole island, and pump out oil stockpiled there [:D]

We're now into July 4th but nothing major to report with the exception of the heavy air strikes on Victoria Point on the 2nd!
The attacks were not only directed against VP and our defenders again cut down more enemy ac than they lost. Also, pilots losses were again acceptable; 13 KIA after loosing 88 planes.
The majority of the 120 Allied planes most likely perished with their crews!

Rabaul has probably been on the wish list for some time but Andy knows we got a bugged AA regiment that has received a full tank division of reinforcements.
Andy commented on having something similar. So invading Rabaul will be costly and require the support of the Allied carrier fleets.

Having the Allies invading lower Gilberts and prepping to assault New Britain and the Marshalls in the last half of 1944 is kinda acceptable!-)

Indeed, I kinda think it should be possible to murder the Red Air Force with our advanced fighters available to us in 8/44 [:)]
And then I'm not thinking about Oscars!-) Producing the Oscar III now in low numbers, great plane but 2x12,7mm guns isn't acceptable.
The last Oscar IV version will field 2x20mm guns...still not good enough.

New ship types allow us to perform amphibious landing and reinforcement operations more efficiently.
On a small scale at least. We have the new Super ASW escorts - the "E" class, new APD destroyers and fast LST landing ships.
Very handy to quickly load / unload in bases without proper port facilities.
