Either three or all four infantry divisions at Haiphong will cross the river tomorrow. A second unit, with guns only, has appeared at our crossing hex NE of Hanoi. Our artillery will arrive tomorrow and all units will attack the day after. I suspect that this is an effort to use the Empire's best AT weapons so artillery and infantry support will be massive.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Japanese Unit(s) surrounded at Ternate

Thanks - but it will be a bit before they can load up and shove off.ORIGINAL: JocMeister
Its a long jump without Luzon! Good luck!
PS. I found it really difficult to stage a full fledged bombing campaign from the Okinawas. And I could easily rotate units in and out from level 9 AFs on Luzon. You really need a level 9 AF within normal B29 range from the HI. Even better would be one within B24 range.

I think that Formosa will provide size 9 airfields even closer than Luzon. I agree that the area covered by the Okinawa operation is not super airfield territory. I think only Naha can go to size 8; everything else is smaller to one degree or another (I think, the details slip my mind). But it does provide a lot of airfields in a good spot. Good to some degree for bombing the Home Islands, but also for really cutting the SLOC west of Japan and for supporting the invasion of the HI. Once the other airfields are built up to handle fighters, recon, search, and anti-shipping duties, Naha could be dedicated to B-24s. Maybe even another airfield. That would spread out the CAP.

It will be a very tight fit on Okinawa. I severely overstacked my bomber bases on many, many occasions. I would look at Formosa and/or Luzon. Not only do you need big AFs you will need a big port pretty soon. You will need to ship in about 1 million supply per month once things really take off. And for that you need a big port close at hand! Manila is very nice to have with its repair yard. [:)]

And Hong Kong!* [:D]
* When I get there...
Who ARE those guys?? The two Bn against the 53rd Division will stand down, and one Bde is near ready to. Trying to keep too many disabled squads from being in combat because those are the ones most likely to be destroyed. At least the 53rd Division is totally surrounded and can be worn down as slowly as need be. The 29th Division is still moving but is disintegrating much faster.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, yeah, that's for sure! Might have been some like them on Truk. Not good for timetables, casualty counts, device pools, supply, air ops losses... [:D]ORIGINAL: Rafid

Who ARE those guys??
Look on the bright side: You prefer fighting that kind of division isolated and out of supply in the middle of nowhere, instead of e.g. on Okinawa.
The 81st West African Division has made contact with the ex-Sabang Imperials and will attack tomorrow. South of Surat Thani the Sherman V equipped 18th Cavalry Rgt is first to catch the withdrawing enemy units there and will attack alone tomorrow to get the ball rolling.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
