and your gunboats, BTW?

One solution for Tzaritsyn is to destroy rails in the North. It should maybe force part of Tzaritsyn garrison to leave the cities to repair them.

Gunboats are working fine, thanks.

Destroying rails in the north is usually what I do, but the Reds have pretty much decimated my rail destroying parties, big and small. [:@]

the FY AI is yet surprising me [;)]I wouldn't .have bet it was able to avoid to be lured. From what I've seen, you're using tanks for Tzaritsyn capture? Maybe their effect is too small? I haven't changed the combat values from the official version.

I had defeated the "original" force there and was besieging the garrison, when Stalin counterattacked with above results. Uncut rails made it possible, obviously. I think tanks are performing as they should. What is missing is proper tank sounds.

Yes indeed [;)] I noticed that,I forgot to apply the change and as I'm currently testing Red side, I've not real access to tanks. For the next version.

EDIT: in fact, I didn't forgot. It's just impossible.

Red military reform option and the Fatal Years design

The militray reform initiated by Trotsky is hard to simulate.

Not for the effects, ie better quality for Red units. That’s simple.

What’s difficult is such an event is a no-brainer. Which player will play without a full game? Whatever the cost of the option, any Red player will try to enforce it soon.

Giving a very high cost is detrimental for balancing, as much resources will be devoted to fulfill the conditions, and anyway it doesn’t feel right. After all, most of the negative effects caused by a great cost were created by the reform rather than the contrary. Bolsheviks were divided about this reform for ideological and personal reasons ( Trotsky being unpopular), but the crude truth was a reform was necessary and I bet it would have been done anyway a few months later, even if Trotsky hadn’t existed or if he has lost this political struggle.

So the option must be playable quickly, during the first turn. It must yet be a player choice, because an automated upgrade of units doesn’t fulfill the game axiom, which is you’re Lenin when you’re playing Reds, or the Politburo. For the sake of simulation, this remains a choice you have to make.
That’s more. We know, in retrospect , the reform was necessary and did much for the Red success. neither Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin did known. They faced the unknown and some of the arguments of the Military Opposition weren’t worthless. To simulate the conditions of this critical choice of the military reform, Fatal Years must reintroduce some of the uncertainty Politburo was confronted.

Hence the choice of negative then positive random consequences of the military options. You know the reform will reinforce your units, but you ignore exactly at which cost in NM, other penalties.

Once the option chosen, you have to cope with possible harsh results. The plan isn’t perfect as in real life. At least, each game will be different.

FYI, I had an action packed late September turn (1919) - battles everywhere - but the latest official battle report bug makes following it pretty disconcerting, grrr.

Nah they have promised a patch in September. Don't you know reporting bugs issued by a patch is "guerilla" led by a looney ? [:D]

No 2 portraits for curious "units": one named conscription, another named "emancipation". I'm searching the models. Thanks [:)]

About FY, As the official team has announced they will treat the last bugs in the following weeks, I just want to inform I've squashed most of those related to data in FY in the last months, by using my QA definitive weapons: Scriptreport, mainlog and NOTEPAD. On this point, FY is more advanced than the official version.

I would have had advanced tools, the better. Howewer, it's not because i lack appropriate tool I will not do. [:)]

Units are not precisely my specialty, will try my best, and in case needed will request help in AGEod forum [:'(]

Oh, it will just be like leader portraits. You know AACW hasn't a real option system, so I will use these units like in the KY case, the presence of this unit on the map activating the options... So i'm searching a slave liberated of his chains and something small evocating conscription: 3 drawings like leader portraits.

Thanks for the links. :-)

And don't worry, I'm sure you would get help on AGEOD forum.[8D]
BTW, if their new projext is NCP 2, doing AI files like mine will need about 500 ko of events files at best, certainly 750. On 15 years, 7 major factions battling in whole Europe is huge. Just for assessing the 1812 Russian campaign, the number of events is at least the whole WHI, WH3 RUS AI events number. Then you have to take into account spome plausible variants, like a more powerful Sweden allied to France...I let you imagine for England. Possible but with at least IMHO one year to complete and test. Of course, they have maybe better methods to fasten the work or do the same with less events. We'll see. At best, it will be a game I could enjoy without modding it.Like BOA [:)]

Oh, portraits, I thought they were units like this one

If they are leaders I think there will be no problem.... If you remember already did a few though not identical to the leaders portraits of the game

Who is that man, is there any pic with better resolution?

From Wikipedia:

Robert Smalls (April 5 , 1839–February 23, 1915) was an enslaved African American who, during and after the American Civil War, became a ship's pilot, sea captain, and politician. He freed himself and his family from slavery on May 13, 1862, by commandeering a Confederate transport ship, the Planter, to freedom in Charleston harbor. He was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, and eventually became a politician, serving in both the South Carolina State legislature and the United States House of Representatives. During his career, Smalls authored legislation that created in South Carolina the first free and compulsory public school system in the United States, founded the Republican Party of South Carolina, and convinced President Lincoln to accept African-American soldiers into the Union army. He is notable as the last Republican to represent South Carolina's 5th congressional district until 2010.

I wanted an Afro-American who acted during Civil War to get his freedom, to alter the conventional image of people passively waiting Whites settle the dispute about them [:)]

Here a better image I think, let me know if you need yet better

Hello Im new to the forum and new to this game how do you rate this game [:D] .

Kamanev is fighting with Deninkin currently. Im amazed so far so good[&o]. Reds building fortification for Petrograd and Moscow, Lets see they  how the game will evolve.
