Here the infantry has had enough. Even with SOP set to aggressive they can't take an 88mm pounding and keep moving forward.

The charge falters in the face of the German fire.
But one tank continues to move forward.

The death of the Tank Battalion.
In the end our Hero only killed 2 German Halftracks. It wasn't because he didn't try. He did. In fact he gave his all.

And so, how did 3 Ferdinands do against 31 T-34's?
Here's how....
They killed 26 out of 31 before the game ended.
But what about the T-34 that was oh so close??
Well, that's a story for another day. Today our elephant hunt is over.
Good Hunting.

I have to admit, I was a little surprised. I thought you would get at least one of the three. I also thought you did a good job of synchronizing the assault and taking the Elephants from all sides. I am curious, toward the end, did you charge with your Infantry before they broke?
Thanks for the AAR. I enjoyed following this.

Yikes, this was brutal. I'm with Rick - I figured the boys would be able to score at least one of the Elephants. Man, a shut-out.
Frankly I don't think the timing could be improved. We came at them from every direction. We even had infantry charging into the fray.
I enjoyed this a lot. The story was dramatic and well presented. Thanks for all the screen shots - they helped us immerse into the action.
If only we'd had time to rush a penal batallion out and sow some mines....

The infantry was too tired and wouldn't charge but they were walking steadily towards the Ferdinand when it opened fire on them.
The timing of the charge was good. The fact that there was so much open ground to cross with it was not.
The 2nd Company running into more of the German screen was bad too. While they destroyed the HT and infantry they piled up and the Ferdinand left most of them smoking on the steppes.
Good Hunting.

I was surprised at how the AI handled the Ferdinands. Each of them simply stood their ground and calmly picked targets. It didn't try to advance or all of them target the same T-34 or groups of T-34's. If that had happened we might have still gotten one.
More than likely with one more turn we would have killed one. The lone T-34 of 3rd Company was going to have to decide if he would ram the Ferdiand in front of him or try to penetrate it with AP rounds. Either choice would have been interesting to watch.
You guys would have determined which tactic he would have used.
Good Hunting.
