The South Dakota was an unlucky ship in the actual battle in Iron Bottom Sound paired with the Washington and 4 DD against a Japanese TF formed of the IJN BB Kirishima, 2 CAs, 2 CL, and 9 DDs TF. She had an electrical issue that made her blind as the battle started and was pummeled and forced to retire before she became a victim of long lances like in your battle. Historical Admiral Ching Lee played rope-a-dope after the South Dakota withdrew and the 4 escorting DDs, 2 were sunk and the 2 remaining damaged DDs were ordered to retire. Alone, Lee in the Washington faced the numerous enemy and while avoiding attempts to sink it by Long Lances sank the IJN BB Kirishima. History didn't actually repeat itself but it was close.

Oh a special edition from Japan I hope I don't have to pay them for it.

Not you, I think, but I could perhaps get billed for copyright damages...

Could you imagine the Japanese showing up at a US Federal Courthouse in 1942 to file a lawsuit?
