The Finnish FTR2 is destroyed. As a consequence; both the Soviet bombers will clear. Does the Finnish bomber stay?

Not if luck is on your side, can be done at low odds and no losses.

I merely meant to write that some of the river hexsides in Finland are nearly impossible to see on the map. It was not a comment on odds, or luck.

xxxx

It was indeed extremely lucky to destroy that HQ without any losses.

0133.jpg; but
Orm, strategy question again.

Why did you choose assault over blitz?

Maybe I'm answering my own question but this assault (by my calculation) had a 68.8% PWIN & 76% chance of killing the Finnish HQ; whereas a blitz carried 82.6% PWIN but only a 35% chance of killing the HQ.

The assault worked out very well indeed. You killed the HQ w/o loss. For the same roll a blitz would have (again) resulted in no losses on your side, half flips but the HQ would have survived & retreated.

The aim would have been kill the HQ as a priority but also minimise the loss of the Mech unit which would have only happened with a wipe out roll of 8 on assault table. Given the difficulty in breaking through the Finnish defense's in that terrain it was probably worth that risk. I knew the attack was coming but would have compromised the defense more trying to put another unit there rather than the loss of the HQ itself. I was expecting a blitz though. I was more disappointed that the HQ was flipped and that no losses were received on the attacking side. A lot of things went right for that attack to happen including flipping the Div close to Leningrad which would be have supported the HQ. Peace keepers have no ZOC outside their own hex which is another factor in defending that must be taken into consideration.

I would have made the same attack but rolled an 8 😂

You said it. :)

I don't think I would have rolled an 8. And 8 after all reached the objective to destroy the HQ. I would definitely have rolled less than 8 and only incurred losses on my own force. :D
