S-39 put a nice, fat fish square amidships the CA Kumano. Very satisfying! The bugger was SE of Batavia headed south. That aughta teach 'em.

I also got a report that the Kuma keeled over and sank after eating another Beaufort torpedo. Scoooore!

A good day for the PM air as well. Two strikes at the TF unloading at Gili has netted hits on:

3 APs 2 hits apeice
1 AP 1 hit
1 MSW x 3 bomb hits (of which 2 were 500lb-ers from SBDs, so that thing should be so much scrap metal).
2 PCs x 1 hit apiece

...unfortunately, no more troops aboard, but I'm acheiving exactly what I wanted to see. Now, if faber wants to keep the place in supply, he'll have to pay for it in shipping. Even more so when I get some decent fighters in the place for escort and CAP (actually thinking of getting some Huri in there.

The bombers from India are, slowly but surely, laying waste to Mandalay. Yesterday the damage was 200 penguins, 7 guns, 1 Oscar destroyed, 4 damaged...for a dozen damaged bombers. I think I'm winning that one.

The Boston BG is up and running now. Darwin has been socked in lately, but I'm anxious to find out if they can reach Lautem from there.

Clark still holds!!!! I dont know how, but they beat back another attack, and not only beat it back but in spades: 4500 penguins to 2500 of mine. [&o]

Faber has an entire ID in Merak (N. Java, by Batavia)...seems like a gross misuse of manpower. [8|]

A three-fer today....oh joy....[:D]

2/5/42

A VERY good day for my subs....

S-39 Asakasan Maru 1 torp
S-39 Tasmania Maru 2 torps
S-27 Keiyo Maru 1 torp

The Soerabaja air also hit 2 troop-loaded APs, one witha bomb, one with a torp, and a torp hit on a PG besides.

On top of that, Faber's ships keep hitting mines...very comforting.

Banjarmasin fell to a para drop, but not before I got the last 3 Cat Is of a patrol unit out to India.

The I-18 hit DM Sicard with a torp. It might survive as this occured only a few hexed out of Noumea...but the damage is heavy. In reply, the Jap sub got plastered. Probably not sunk but hut certainly.

The Bostons made their first forray out of Darwin today. 51 Bostons and 22 Forts. I like it! [:)]

My refugee infantry got kicked out of Songkhia by a full brigade and whats left is retreating thought the jungle to right back where they started, Khota Bharu.

Faber toop Toboali and Pomala. Only bombardment at Clark.

This AAR is finally up to date...

Another good day for the U-boats....

S-18 Yubae Maru...2 hits
KSVIII Syoka Maru (troops on board!!!)...1 hit

...and the DD Asagao hit a mine in Singers...EAT IT!!!!![:'(]

An even better day for the flyboys....

The refurbished, rebuilt, reconstituted, reinforced AVG made its first flight out of Dacca with the bombers.....and wrecked...I mean WRECKED the Oscar unit in Mandalay....18 planes destroyed in the air and on the ground!!!! It brings a tear to a commander's eye to see results like this. All the time, effort and equipment spent on rebuilding it after the fiasco at Singapore is looking to have paid off.

The PM P-40s took a hit, however. A Zero sweep netted 3....[:@]

The striked at Lautem were joined by B-25s today. Todays strike was composed of 30-odd Forts, 50 Bostons and 8 B-25s. 300 casualties on the ground. I realize that there is nothing to bomb in Lautem, but my guys are getting a good workout.

Gili is working out as well as I could hope (knock on wood). Faber keep bringing in ships, and I keep taaking chunks out of them. Today's score....

Nichirai Maru...2 bomb hits
Marsue Maru...2 bomb hits
Kuraido Maru...4 bomb hits
and a hit on a PC.

Plus two hits a peice on 2 patrol craft at Gasmata.

The Soerabaja boys were busy as well....

Daigen Maru...3 bombs
Konan Maru...1 torp
Awazisan Maru...2 bombs
and a bomb on a PG

And now, the most incredible news.....Clark still holds!!!!! Another attack repelled today cost Faber 5200 casualties to my 1300. No forts, dwindling supply, no hope of aid and they still hold. Amazing. [&o]

Backstage...

I've decided to ship all the WC Dakota units to India. I'm not going to use the old "off map" transfer.

The last BF was delivered to Midway yesterday. Considering the island well defended now.

The 2nd MarDiv et al arrived at Noumea and will begin unloading.

An Aircobra group began unloading in Brisbane while an FG of P-40s is still a few fays out of Sydney.

Transferring another Beauforts unit to Soerabaya. The place may fall, but perhaps not before I can put some more big holes into some more Japanese ships.

The air buildup in India is pretty well done. All units have been reinforced and rebuilt as well as they're going to be. The only thing pending is the upgrade of the PI B-17s from the C model. After that its all reinforcements and witing for the UK upgrade block to lift.

The land buildup is still in full swing. The Mandalay units are only now emerging from their jungle trek. As I mentioned before, two of those brigades will go to Ceylon, and possibly a BF, the Rangoon CD unit and I think theire is an AA unit too. These units will need some time to reconstitute and bring the disabled squads up to par. In the meantime, the rebuilding of the Singapore cadres is going well. All units are now in the mid teens. Not sure if it will keep up at this clipping pace but it would be nice. I do know that the BFs in Darwin have grown quite nicely in the month or so they've been there, even the Dutch ones.

BFs have no problem reaching 100% (if there is sufficient equipment in the pool)...Inf units lose pace as their numbers increase.

Well done, lads! Perhaps Faber is attacking before his troops have properly recovered. With results like this, the points score for ground casualties must be creeping back towards even.

I'd bet he was attacking with units that have high fatigue and/or disruption. Not good. He needs to rest those guys and use some artillery to bombard.

Unfortunately, I think youre right. This is despite the fact that there is plenty of stuff in the pool and plenty of supply. Oh well, maybe it moves in spurts.

He does, every few turns he attacks. All the while, he's pounding the daylights out of the place with bombers.

Wrote a whole novel as an AAR update and the forum logged me out...lost the whole bloody thing. [:@][:@][:@]

2/8/42

Two S Boats hit APs today, one with troops. I also notice that there is a lot of burning and damaged stuff floating around Java these days. Makes me wonder where those notorious APDs are that gave me so much trouble around Malaya. There not due for upgrades yet, are they?

PM Air continues to work over the TF in Gasmata. I think Faber is trying to move out the two NLFs that captured the place. Two APs and a PC hit with bombs today.

Soerabaja air had a bad day today. Only one torp hit on an AP out of 5 strikes. Not surprising however. The Dutch bombers are mostly gone now. Only one squadron left and that has 3 Martins. The rest of the bomber force consists of 2 Aussie Beau units. One of them is down to half operational and the other just arrived last night, green as grass.

The one bright spot in the DEI today was the raid on Lautem, and even that is not as brilliant as I would like. Faber put CAP over the place, LRCAP, I think. This may have scared off the Bostons and Mitchells because they didnt fly. But the Forts of the 5th BG made up for their timidity. While losing 2 planes in a2a, they shot down 6 Zeros outright and damaged a dozen more. I think Faber probably almost jumped out of his penguin tuxedo at that one.

The Dacca Air continues to pound Mandalay, with no CAP to deal with this time. Todays results are an Oscar squashed on the ground and 300 penguins blasted.

The 2nd MarDiv is unloading in Noumea.

The Aircobra group has begun reassembly in Brisbane and the P-40 unit is now unloading in Sydney. Cant wait for the latter to complete assembly because there is very little left of the P-40 unit currently in PM...only a bit over a dozen operationals and those are completely out of their depth against Faber's sweeps out of Rabaul.

Hornet in 10 days, Yorkie on final leg to Sydney, now just out of Pago. *slobber, slobber*

I don't think Japanese APDs upgrade at all.

Makes their conspicuous absense off Java even more conspicuous. [&:]
