Well I read the support page as you suggested. It did not seem to help my problem. I downloaded the tracker exe file and I get an error that "this executable was created with an evaluation version of exe4j."
Java Not Found
This will show up as an error message:
Java is not recognized as an internal or external command
Java 32 bit is either not installed, or there is a pathing problem.

Solution 1. Check you have Java JRE 32bit installed.
Solution 2. Move the WitPTracker folder to the Desktop or C:\
Solution 3. Copy java.exe from your C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin to the WitPTracker folder (remember copy not move)
Solution 4. Change your witptracker.bat file to point to the 32 bit Java executable (you need the quotes because of the space) - this varies on different machines so you'll need to check the path:

Solution 2 or 3 is probably the best. No need to use the executable if this is a java issue...

Are you running under win64 or 32 bit ?

FYI: Got an "Error comparing bases (COMPAREBASE_UNEQUALSIZE)" after the latest patch was applied. Copied the file pwsdll.dll from the WITP folder to my witptracker folder, and everything seems to work just fine.

Is Kull still working on his region files?
I ask because I found that the Line islands seem to be double in the tracker, one with region ID 20 and another ID 36 and in the tracker they are grouped together because of the same region name although the IDs are different.

Haven't seen Kull for a while. If anyone has some update region files for different scenario's please share ;-)

Well I mailed him and asked if it's OK to send you the corrected file, hopefully he will respond.
In case not the only thing I edited was the missing base Truscott ID 1601 to Australia and split the Line Islands region into "Line Islands (South)" ID 36 and "Line Islands (North)" ID 20 as I guess that was the original purpose of making two regions with the name "Line Islands".

BTW what is up with the unit names that differ from the in-game names used?
An example would the the "70th Cst AA Rgt" that is named as "70th Field AA Battalion" by the tracker.

I noticed that, but suspect it has to do with picking up the rename value, not necessarily the current name.

So on my question. I have installed and used (for a short while) v1.5. After about 6 months of war the load time became unbearable. I go with no map load, but I can process my turn in less time than it takes for tracker to load up.
As a followup, my trackerdb.data is currently at !G
Is there a way to purge old data so to trim down the load time somewhat??

Would there be other causes, other than the sheer size of the reposited data??
Hi -
Sorry you can't purge old data without purging it all ...

I'd suggest deleting all the trackerdb.* files and starting afresh. While Floyd and I would have liked the program to work for the whole war - I think it is unrealistic given the amt of data and the fact this is not a commercial project and would need certain aspects re-written/coded. We will try to make it better over time - but for now I only load about a month worth of data and then start again.

Really?

Then I must be really special as I currently have 671 consecutive turns loaded in my copy of tracker (1.8) with no problems. It does take about 5-10 mins to load a turn, but as it takes me longer than that to do a turn, not much of an issue [:)] I do have map off as well which probably helps.

I'll keep you posted if I end up breaking it, but so far it has been going strong. Good job guys.

As a followup, my trackerdb.data is now at 1G [X(] Yes over 1 Gigabytes of data now resides in this puppy.[:D]

I wouldn't mind if it takes 10 min (which it doesn't yet), the problem is I can't start AE first while tracker loads up as tracker always fails to start when I have AE already running. For what reason ever, it's the same on three different computers. After roughly 100 turns it starts to take forever to load.

Java fails - I guess ... I only get that problem when I load at the same time. If I have AE running then I can load Tracker and vice-versa. Damn Java is annoying.

Still I'm on my old P4 with 1500K ram. With my laptop that died dual core - no probs. Maybe after we release 1.9 and given that we continue to 2.0; for that release no new work just a re-write of some things to address these issues.

Still that's up to Floyd and I to discuss what direction and time permitting we'll have in the next 6 mths.

The issue is that you have to wait until tracker completely loads before doing anything else. Not sure why, but there it is. So once the main tracker screen comes up, then you can do anything else you want, including AE. If you try and run anything else while only the DOS window is up, the tracker load will fail.

I just leave tracker up all the time and just minimize it when I don't need it.

heck, nice tip. Have never tried to do that and will try out today. thx Damian

edit: works like a charm, first load AE, THEN load tracker and not both at the same time. OMG, never realized this in all the years... [:)]

Hey Damian, I am reading your economic primer, very nice work as always. Your input on this game is excellent. Your always out to help in so many ways. Anywhoo, I was reading the part on airframes (just started) and you wrote that you usually do your airframe production, save, load tracker, then move onto your engines. OK HERE IS THE QUESTION....
I thought you had to run a turn before tracker would update. I already did my ship production and I am not seeing anything updated---I have not run a turn yet, so hence tracker did not update. Is this gonna be something new for 1.9?
Or am I doing something wrong? Turn 1, Axis. Scen 2, Ai (getting some practice would like to finally move onto PBEM)
Thanks
D

WitPTracker only "updates" when you manually load a new save (read turn function or multi-turn read). If you've already loaded the save for that turn, you can't reload it and there is no way to "unload" a turn.

Question regarding the "Enemy ship falsely reported sunk" alerts
Are they pulled out of the OpsReport or is the in-game database checked?

I guess in-game because I see this message:
"Previous report of sinking of CL Tenryu incorrect. Ship sighted and engaged at 106, 63"
for turn 71 but the OpsReport where this is in is from 14th February what is turn 70.

WitPTracker does not read that text file (currently), just the save file for this information. The information on sunk enemy ships has either:
[*]ship really sunk
[*]ship reported sunk, but wasn't and will remain reported so for "x" turns
[*]ship sunk but reported as another and will remain mis-identified for "x" turns

I think I got this correct in the program, but if I messed it up, I can fix it. You can send me the save and I'll see what it says for CL Tenryu.

No need I guess, there is this 1 turn discrepancy that irritated me.

I let the tracker read the autosave that is made at the start of the new turn and it seems that the turn that is loaded is used for the alerts.
An example is this alert:
"74 Ship xAKL Prominent Ship sunk Sunk by 18in Type 91 Torpedo at 53,91 near Tambelan-eilanden Major"
Turn 74 is the 18th, now when I look into the sunk ship list I find:
"xAKL Prominent Sunk by 18in Type 91 Torpedo on turn 73 at 53,91 near Tambelan-eilanden"
So it was sunk on turn 73 and the alert came up for turn 74, that's all.

I just thought there could be something deeper because I also saw the "Enemy ship falsely reported sunk" message for the CL Kiso but that seem to be no tracker but a game problem as the Kiso is still listed as sunk but now on the date this "Enemy ship falsely reported sunk" message came in.

What does "Error comparing bases unequal size" means?
