The 12th opened with some massive night strikes, hitting Nagasaki with the regular 4Es. The NF coverage was outstanding though, and flak did it's job too. NO HITS were registered on this base!!! [&o]

The B-29Bs went for Okayama, and again the NF showed up in force, downing around 10 of them for few losses and thwarting the strike completely as well!!! [&o]

The Privateers suffered the most. Another smaller strike of B-29-1 went for Hamamatsu, and in spite of only a handful of NF showing up here this strike also achieved zero hits. [8D]

With daylight the big guns came out, a P-47N sweep at Matsuyama. This base had a bunch of fighter training groups, but numbers from Hiroshima and Oita also showed up, making it a bad day for the Allied pilots, especially in the first sweep. [X(]

Here 76 planes showed up for the first sweep but about half were from training groups. Still, that was enough to draw a bunch of P-47Ns low and let the good pilots dive in.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font] All five of the IJN subs remaining are just about finished with repairs. The ASW planes 'HIT' about 3-4 Allied subs a day, so some of those are likely getting actual hits.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]KOREA: [/font] We should have around 6k AV at Gunzan by tomorrow, some of it just coming out of strat mode. I'll have to take whatever 4E hit comes, as I won't commit fighters here right now. Industry is more important. There is a good amount of AA in the hex, so hopefully that will help. Supply is dire, though, so fingers crossed.

More air support troops are heading across the Tsushima straits and shoring up areas in the HI.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]STRAT BOMBING:[/font] The strikes on the 12th get exactly zero hits on industry over three targets. The NF are surely a factor, but also the Allied strikes came in higher, at either 12k or 15k, so were likely not as effective for that reason as well. I foresee the next strike will be big, and will be in daylight. It will hit something, so I have to be vigilant in the guessing game, and keep getting the fighters in shape. Some upgrades to Jacks and Franks are keeping 300-400 planes out of the fight for the next 3-4 turns.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]HOME ISLANDS: [/font] I realized this turn that there is still a lot of fuel scattered around the HI in small ports. I'll try to move that into Tokyo and Osaka by ship to get the HI producing for a week or so. It simply won't move by land which sucks, even from ports with no ships based there and no HI to use it. [8|]

The KB will be ready to go in 2-3 days with 5 CVs, and another 2 Unryus will finish needed repairs and join if still viable in 15-20 days. The Taiho and Kaga will take at least 30-35 days to be available in a damaged state, with some flood damage.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]KOREA: [/font] The Allies arrived more quickly than I'd anticipated. All of our major troops arrived as well, which is fortunate. This is another massive Allied army of 5700 AV with a ton of tanks. Good thing we brought the kitchen sink, but at this point with low supply I'm not sure we'll hold. Some arty is still on the way, and I have two more divisions moving just in case. The Allies bombarded and did a bit of damage, but our counter fire also did some damage to vehicles and guns.

Tomorrow I anticipate the 4E strike will be massive. Hopefully it'll be rained out, but if not the AA will have to deal with it as best it can. I have a few 88s with radar and a bunch of 75s in the hex. Plus some DP guns that should give a good account of themselves. In the clear though ...

... below see some results that show what happens to ground units in the clear late in game.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] The 500+ 2E bombers hit Nanchang today. Unbelievable results. The two units there, a naval guard and a small Chinese garrison unit, were nearly completely obliterated in one turn with 4 forts in the base.

It's pretty funny. It's like the game represents them as standing in a small tight pack in the middle of a field the Allies just happen to be really targeted on, and they are all pummeled into oblivion. I guess only DBB limiting bomb device strength will deal with this at least a little. It's another of those things, though that I'll make a personal note not to do when I play the Allied side. Even in a no HR game I'll restrict myself from things that just don't feel right, and this is certainly one.

Again though, in a larger strategic sense of this game, I'm glad these guys are still pounding over China. This is where I want them, as hard as it is to watch. [:)]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]HOME ISLANDS: [/font] Fuel is moving now to Tokyo and Osaka. Hopefully the extra hit can get a few bases out of the red an yellow and prepare for the last push to the finish line.

The Allies continued sweeps over the HI and results were astounding today. The Mustangs came in first and they didn't do well. The smaller groups hit around 100 good Japanese fighters, and I changed my layering a bit to get more diving planes and it worked like a charm. The Allied fighters dove into the strong Frank group at 25k and the tough Ki-100 group at 20k, and both ended up with good kill numbers, but the winners were of course the elite group set to 32k that dove right after them. A few P-47N groups arrived later and got some kills back, but still lost a few of their number, meaning good pilots. It was fun to watch in the replays, and even though we got slightly better than 1:1 the real 'win' on days like this is downing Allied pilots. We lost only 10 KIA with 15 WIA. Most of those were rookies. The ends of groups now have a few too many 45-50 exp pilots recently trained.

That was a tough bombardment, but I'm hoping a few minor tweaks can resurrect the situation. Plying low supply is a new one, and trying to do it in a clear hex against late war Allied stuff is also something I've not experienced before. Jocke continually uses massed armies of 5k or more, and without stacking limits, the only answer is to pile up a bunch on my side or give up bases.

As you say, it's Jne 45, so I'm not too concerned. My only major strategic thought right now is maintaining the industry as long as possible. If he bombs troop, that's one day not bombing factories. [:)]

As stated before, the goal is VJ day with some fighting capability still left. If I make that, anything after is frosting.

The turn started with some forays against multiple PT boat TFs at Moppo. I decided to send in a few ships to bombard in case fighters were sent in again here. Es cleared a path first, with one getting a torpedo hit and a few more hitting mines.

The CAs took apart quite a few PT boats but after multiple engagements, most likely didn't have much left for the base. The bombardment wasn't very impressive. I let this one get in closer and let the DDs bombard, but the USN also shot back at 17k, so maybe that also threw the CAs off? I'll try a middle ground if I do it again here.

The B-29s came on screen next, going for the Dinah III KAI and Sam factories at Tsu and the Franks at Utsonimiya. Tsu had a good number of NF up, but Utsonimiya didn't get bleed from Tokyo and they got a free shot, taking out another 30 Franks. Still have nearly 800 in the pool luckily! [8D]

GUNZAN HOLDS!

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]KOREA: [/font] The Allies DA and get a 1:2, just barely, letting the base hold. Unbelievable! However, the price was high, and this can't last forever. The Allies lose nearly 10k troops, but Japanese losses approach 20k. [X(]

Many of the better divisions have almost no damage, and it's the smaller, less filled out units that really took the hit hard. Lost a lot of arty as well. The Allies might need a few days to get disruption down, and by then our other fresh divisions will be in base. Hopefully that will give another similar result. No 4Es hit though, so that is a bonus.

All in all, a good day here, but it's a temporary celebration, as this is far from over and the Allies have every advantage.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]STRAT BOMBING:[/font] Minus one more Frank 'r' factory. Down to about 100/month. The pool is good though, most likely plenty for the next two months.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]HOME ISLANDS: [/font] The sweeps today did some damage, and evened out the advantage we'd been getting for the past week or so. The final tally was something like 139 of ours lost to 50+ for the Allies to all causes. I'd say sweeps got 2:1 or so today. I'll step down tomorrow around Kagoshima. See if more hit empty air.

Here's some info from Tracker on the last turn's air losses. The Allies easily made up their deficit of the past week. Looks like new Corsairs. Yuck. Even faster. [:(]

Looks like he lost 39 on the day to our 86. We also lost 33 NF for like 6-8 B-29s! Bad day at the office!

Total supplies continue to fall, a LOT! Not much to do about it other than keep fighting until they're gone. There isn't much conservation to do at this point. All replacements have been off for a good while, there is no infrastructure building, I'm not shipping any supply to Korea, and strikes are limited to very good opportunities, i.e. the entire Allied fleet landing troops.

I've considered withdrawing ALL of the LB training groups. I might just do it after this training session, in about 2-4 weeks. Might change all of the fighter units to kami after this session, starting in about 4-5 days when the new pilots are ready and until they are all converted in about 4-5 weeks.

Maybe I should disband engineer and other ground units I don't have to have, as well? Any other ideas?

Just calculated that HI would be good at current levels of production until April 46. Of course this game won't go that far unless the Allies send a few million supply our way! [:D]

I wouldn't have Kwantung Army in a hex where there is combat. That will only make your supply and replacement problems much worse IMO.
