Flavius, I think he is being honest in his "role playing", and he thinks that by now the Soviets have been chastised enough, and that by now they would have learned their lessons and started reacting better... And he doesn't want to suffer a crippling endgame type of defeat, which I can understand.

True, he has met his objectives for his purposes, like I said before I expect from here on out he will have more depth to his D. If he doesn't I don't know whats going on but I'll ask him if the time comes.

One thing interesting: Carnage I think played a pretty good game, and Redmarkus broke every defensive rule in the book. Result?

Historical.

It takes a skill mis-match to produce this. If opponents are evenly matched, it looks very tough for the Axis.

I am going to try AXIS PBEM and see. I have been playing Carnage as Soviets.
I totally agree with you Q-ball, breaking every rule does make it more historical as far as placement. Sure better players could make better head way but those IMO are far and few to be found yet. Some day I hope to be one if I apply myself to making better decisions. The thread on Emir Agic's work is very incitefull for setting objectives. Next game I play I will use that info to better my decision making process.

Your defense Q-ball was amazingly well placed. Your defense of depth and hitting constant level 3-4 fortifications was unbelievable. If Soviet players all learned your technique I probably will stop playing humans and whimper in the corner soiling myself...LOL [:'(][:D]

I only hope you become a Axis player, I would love to see an AAR with your play.

Here it is my weekly OKH report, nothing really to say except he has moved back in the south some. I won't post the north until next turn. Then I will post everything that needs to be posted pre-blizzard.

In the Kursk Front I'm pulling back my Panzers this turn. Nothing more can be gained from them being on the front except being torn up to early.

The Kharkov front see's more of Red's pull back. He wants me to be in unfortified positions for his offensive. I will see if I will oblige or not. Depends if he pulls back next turn. If I am in unfortified positions I most likely will suffer more casualties the first turn than I want.

Finally the Crimean Front. I know a lot of you wanted me to stick mountain divisions here and disagree with my decision to abandon this front for next summer. But grinding my way through all those swamps I just don't think I can afford the resources in divisions to do it.

Thanks for the compliment Carnage! I am going to do exactly that: Play an Axis Campaign. I might go back to the Reds later, it was certainly interesting giving it a try.

I will probably do an AAR, because I think I will need help dealing with the "Red Carpet" treatment.

I still think playing the Reds is easier. The Red Army "Margin for Error", is, oh, 100 Rifle Divisions. The Axis Margin for Error is sometimes a couple MPs. There is a great comfort playing the Reds knowing that you have alot of manpower reserves, and pretty much unlimited tanks after 1941.

Let him pull back, and throw up a checkerboard on the unoccupied and unfortified no man's land.

Then he wastes a turn clearing a few regiments.

Alternately, you could checkerboard this with mountain units in select areas. They'll be plenty strong even in clear and without forts. Just make sure to backstop them with a unit so they can't get cut off. Then make him push those back one hex a week. Your regular infantry can dig behind them and give them nice forts as they retreat backwards.

Bob has been experimenting with a strong hedgehog defense that show some promise, but it's probably best to let him go into that.

The main thing is to not get suckered into a linear defense in the south. He'll butcher you.

Okay here is the beginning front line trace as of 27 November 1941. I'll post them regularly to show Red's advancements during his offensive.

Now this is my entire front dispositions and reserve status. I'm not sure what defense to employ but I'm afraid of using Rgt. up front because of ZOC. I'm not sure what you mean Flaviusx when you talk about this, but I fear encirclement of those. Maybe you can explain or draw a map. I'm all for understanding better defenses to become a better Axis player. I don't know if Red will like me getting this kind of help though.

I don't know what your immediate lines look like from the standpoint of entrenchments in depth, but if you are depending on 1 line, its gonna be ugly when he kicks you out of it.

The Volkov, I am not sure what is going on there either as there is still a big stack of Russians on your side of the river and no Germans moved up to vacated Russian hexes. Until the river freezes (granted, it won't take long) it will give you some protection and also make your line short and straight, making it harder for him to crack it, but you have to figure some sort of relief attack is going to be coming there if he wants to keep Leningrad.

Losses look good for both sides from the German standpoint of view. The Axis actually have more artillery and your tank situation vs his is very favorable at this point. Aircraft, not so much, but he probably has not engaged and a lot of that is still trash.

Seriously though get a unit into Yalta. Trey landed mountain troops there during out test and it took all my mountain troops and my SS fire brigade to deal with it.

Strange that no one has complained that the 1% return rate of disabled hedgehogs to the pool is too low.

Carnage, do me a favor (and yourself a favor, for that matter) and post future maps with the fortification display enabled.

This will make it a lot easier to plan out your actions.

I think your defense in the south is too linear and exposed to Soviet counterattacks.

Mountain troops are way too far back in the rear.
