A day divided in 2. 1 good news and one bad news.

Ok, first the bad news. The 56th Bde today reached Suva and deliberate attacked, thinking of finding only a base forse....while there were 3000 men , behind 4 forts!!!!....what a mistake...probably the stupidest one of the war so far[:@]
Now i have to commit more troops...the S.S.Det. is loading at Kwalajein...and i'll need some BBs...ufffff[:(]
( i'll use the Yamato which arrived yesterday and now is on route for Truk).

The good news is that the Chinese theatre is really moving! Today we cleaned the railhex northeast of Changsha, which is now threatened to be surrounded! Let's see what he does...
At the same time my attack against his positions on the railway between Canton and Changsha was a complete success! His retreating units chose the way north, so that now the door to Wuchow, guarded by 10,000 men ( 2 units ) is open! I'll so move 1 regiment northward, following the retreating enemy keeping in contact with him, 1 Mix regiment at Wuchow, to occupy the city and 1 mortar Rgt and one more Mix Regiment , along with the 25th Army HQ towards the contested hex north west of Canton!
3 divisions will try to cross the river north of Changsha.
At Chungking...well....no news bad news[:(] My men move so slow.......

Tomorrow , finally, we'll attack Manila for the first time!...really hope not to have the same problem i had at Suva...cannot wait any longer to free these 5 divisions and 2 Brigades!!!!

In Oz...no enemy movements today...
The same usual bombing in Burma...

and.....well...finally after weeks of waiting my CVs have been spotted...at 3 hexes from Christmas[X(][X(] ...do you see the irony? This would have been the perfect invasion, with the surprise effect.....now, being so close, i bet he won't move his CVs from Pearl[:o]

Early in the morning here. 7:30 am. Going to office....but could not resist[:D]. Tonight i dreamt of witp[&:][&:]...it's serious, doctor?

Considering that FRaG operation will reveal itself to be a stupid and useless gamble, what really remains me is China. In Oz , sooner or later, he will push me back in the waves, in the Pacific no more conquests are possible at the present time....only in china i still have some chances of winning. If only i could place one of my 2 armies involved in the Blue heart operation on the flank of Chungking i bet i could force him at least to retreat from the southern China....

And Manila...today, probably for lunch, i'll have the new turn...and i will see rather if my 25th Army managed to gain a decent odds or if i will be stuck here for more months to come....already sweating...cannot wait....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 05/25/42

A very important day.
Finally, after the sightings of yesterday, his CVs are moving from PH!!!! So it seems that, above all, my bait worked! Ok...now it comes the difficulty.
One of my subs sacrifized itself giving the position of the allied CV TF. More glen recon says thet he barely moved 8 hexes today, assuming that he left PH yesterday.
He should be at least 2 days from Christmas Isl. I'll use this time to refuel my CVs and to keep simulating and landing operation. Few MSWs will be sacrificed for this purpose, sending them to Christmas in order to clean a path through the minefields...i know they'll get toasted by the 155mm guns, but i strongly need to keep him under the credence that i want to land!
7 Michells attacked my CVs today. 133 zeros were waiting. None of them got back home:-)
Now there are at least 2 scenarios:
The first one assumes that he will go for a direct fight, comming from the north. I'll stay 2 hexes south of Christmas with my CVs, avoiding the LBmedium bombers ( B-26 and B-25) that are stationed at Palmyra.
He should have 6 CVs by now...it will be a very risky fight. I know it. He has Palmyra which is a size 5 port very close, while i only have Canton Island ( level 4) which is nothing but a cemetry for a damaged CV. Anyway, i have the best pilots and still the best plane equipment, so i must try.
He'll have for sure some fighters at Christmas, ready to LRCAP his CVs....I have 590 planes aboard my carriers...he'll probably have more...ok, better not to think about it.
The second scenario is even worse. Christmas is a level 2 AF, and ready to become a level 3. He can simply move his carrier trained squadrons here and demolish my TFs....that's why i'm planning a BB attack at Christmas!
My subs are all closing in, hoping in a lucky shot and to keep in touch with the american fleet.

in China was a quite day. No attack today. he's retreating his souther units towards Wochow, which is my next target

At Manila, finally, the first attack went in and was a damned good one! 2-1 and forts reduced to level 4! Now 3 more days of bombardment and then we'll attack again. Now Manila is doom and its fate written!

In Northern Oz, he keeps advancing. My defences are getting ready and i really hope to force him to a statlemate....

Very disappointing news. He ate my bait, but then i spitted it[:(]
Overcast all over the southeast pacific. My Glens did not spot anything, exept those bastard fleeing Cargos and none of my subs was attacked or spotted by a single dountless....probably he got back to PH...[:@] I'll stay one more day around Christmas...just in case. My Msws will operate their simulation tomorrow, while my CVs will refuel.
Another useless adventure[:(]

In China things go very well.( see map)
My southern flank is moving on perfect timing. While one regiment entered at Wochow, so that it became a contested hex, the main body succesfully attacked 7 chinese units and repulsed them beyond the Canton river. Now, counting on the river crossing rule, i will leave there on guard 2 regiments, while a strenght of 2 divisions and 2 regiment will operate a flanking manouver on the right of Wuchow, in order to cut, in one single movement Changsha and Hengchow from their western defensive side.
Finally my units managed to move on the road that leads from Ichang towards Chungking. If he doesn't retreat now all those units will be defenetly cut out!

In Oz we're only few days far from the judment day....

At Luzon, only bombardments today.

MLEs arrived at Kwalajein and Rabaul. Tomorrow will start the mining operations of my forward bases( Lunga, Gili Gili, Tulagi,Tarawa,Baker,Shortland...and so on ).

Well....probably my cards were too easy to be read. No signs of enemy CVs. He got back to PH. My subs are doing a great job and there's no reason not to listen to them: the Yankees had gotten home[:(]. 130,000 fuel points waisted and many capital ships now need some R&R. It was a dream....but the "bunker" strategy he's adopting really force me to keep my CVs in defence for the rest of the war[:@]
Some MSWs were sacrificed in order to simulate the landings....he really thought i was going to land[:o]...not heavy losses...but i do feel stupid[:(]
Now i'm heading back to Truk

Ok, let's close this sad chapter.

In China he now has more than 80,000 men at Chungking and everyday many divisions arrive. This, under a certain point of view is very good cause with an enemy so concentrated it will be more easy for me to mass my troops....but my guys that came down from mountains still take too much time to move...uffff...
Now that Ichang is sorrounded i will be forcing a river crossing operation. The goal is to penetrate deep in the heart of China, forgetting those cities that are too well garrisoned and let them die. Guderian will be proud of me, i know[:D]

At Manila, tomorrow will be the last day of bomberdments. Then we'll attack again. A brand new eng regiment arrived at S.Marcelino from Seul....now should be easier.

MLEs are now present at Kwelajein,Rabaul,Saipan and Sosarbaja....with Singapore and Truk at level 9 port my whole perimeter will be mined in 2/3 months!

No big news today.
In China the only movements were at Wuchow, where now i have 580 Assault points. The base is defended only by 3 chinese corps. Won't try an early attack, cause my supply situation isn't the best. a 40,000 supply convoy is loading in Japan. Destination Honk Kong.

While my CVs are comming back with shame and dishonour, near Tarawa a suicide Tanker Cargo Convoy appeared. at least 9 TKs....too juicy not to be attacked. My CVs are comming, but i'm sure he will flee away towards Lungaville.

I bombed his advancing troops in Australia, losing 6 nells to a heavy AA fire.

At Akyab there are already 7 units[:(]

Tomorrow the attack at Manila will be restarted.

Hi all, dear readers[:)]

Now that FRaG operation revealed itself as a bunch of wet dreams( find the US. main fleet and force her to a final and decisive battle ), i have to start to consider what to do in the Cental and Southern Pacific.

Being my whole Fleet intact ( exactly like the american one ), it won't be easy for him to mount an early-on offensive in these sector, remaining the potential threat of the Death Star untouched. I think that before 1943 he won't advance beyond the external perimeter ( Canton Isl.-Pago Pago- Tarawa- Lunga).

The fiji, once that i will have conquered that arcipelago ( and i hope in 2 weeks this will be done) will be undefendable in the midium term. I'll only place some infantry Fragments and a little base force, in order to use it as an advanced base for my Emilies, in order to control the eastern approaches to the New Caledonia.

Gili Gili and New Guinea cannot be defended with planes. From Cooktown he can pound everything from Gili to Lae. No reason to risk for an attrition war here.
I'll be playing with an elastic defence here, keeping the KB, some good surface units ( BBs and CAs) and 2 divisions as reserve. I bet he will go first for Gili Gili., probably with a fast transport landing. I will counter invade if this will be the case.

The whole external perimeter will be heavily mined. Bouganville Island, Green Island and Rabaul will form my Aerial Fortress.
In Central Pac Tarawa will be my first advanced operational center. 2 Brigades will be held at Kwalajein as reserve in order to be ready to counter invade if he decides to go for Baker or Nanomea Atoll.

Considering that there's much to do for the moment in the south pacific, 1 CV with 1 CVL, along with 1 CS and some surface units ( probably 5 CAs, 1 BB and 15 DDs) will be transfered to the Singapore Fleet,where i already have 2 CVEs, 1 CV, 2 BB and 25 DDs. If needed this units will lead the rescuing operations at Darwin ( if ever is gonna fall) or will react to a return of the RN in my western waters( java is especially weak in these moments).

Above all i can consider that the overall situation doesn't look so bad. The absence of a decisive battle, if in one hand forces me not to feel free to roam with my CVs through the whole pacific, in the other gives me the chance to preserve my only real weapon in the central pac( my CVs and their crews). He will be overwhelming me, i know, but not before the 1943.

So....where i can win the game is on land at this stage. I need not to be trapped in Northern Oz and to repulse his attack. And above all i need to get some decisive victories in China.

A quite turn.
Nothing happened all over the fronts.

In China he's leaving Wuchow. Tomorrow we'll attack. Another attack planned on the hex northwest of Ichang to clean that damned path towards Chungking. At the chinese capital the flanks are now well covered[:(]...it will be damned bloody to shock attack when my first units will cross the river[:o] Will be easier, i hope, on the wester flank.

In Oz, he's one hex away from Daily. i have 400 assault points on both my flanks, with 850 at Daily and 400 at 60 miles north of it. Another division ( the 18th) for about 400 more aps is sloooooowly comming from Darwin.
He destroyed 18 oscars on the ground tonight at Daily plus 3 more zeros[:@]. I paid him back with heavy bombings on his advancing troops with my LBAs from Darwin.

In CEntral Pac a CV TF will move back towards Christmas in order tointercept a Convoy who passed south of my actual positions unseen.

In Burma everything is now under the controll of his air power.

At Manila the second attack went good also( 2-1 odds. 5000-1700 casualities). forts reduced to level 3. Now 2 more days of bombardments, then another attack.

No good news today.

CHINA:

The attack planned to clean the hex N-W of Ichang ended with a statlemate(1-1) altough my bombers did support the attacking troops
with hundreds of ground attack missions. At Wuchow i managed to get a 5-1 odds at the first run. In less than a week the city should be mine.
He's clearly trying to save his souther flank, moving what he still has beyond the Yellow River, in order to force meto shock attack.
At Chungking in one week the first units of my Blue Heart operation armies will finally advance on the flanks of the chinese capital, now guarded by 100,000 men with more 100,000 comming from all over the continent:-(

In Northern oz, probably tomorrow he'll enter in Daily waters. My bombers at Darwin are making a good job. I really hope they'll be prooving of slowing him down a bit and making his fatigue and distruption levels going high.
The 18th division is 120 miles far away from the front....it's comming, slowly but it's comming.

At Manila today we concentrated ourself in bombing the sieged enemy troops.Nothing particular to report.

In Central Pac, the raiding CV TF i assembled yesterday has already been spotted 3 hexes south of Christmas:-(, while i lost contact with the fleeing TF seen yesterday....it seems that my subs are suffering from some optical problems cause they're unable to keep in visual touch with any enemy TF.
My Glens spotted a TF at Bora Bora...i'd like to intercept it if it comes back towards the US. The sub will try to keep in touch.

Burma...well...no good news.

May ends with an expectation of a VERY HOT summer!

He didn't enter in Daily today. The usual bombings on both sides ( i lost 17 planes on the ground tonight at Daily[:(]).
He has 16 units for 130,000 men..more or less. I have 4 divisions, 2 Mix Bde and 4 tank regiments, plus 2 Eng regiments, 2 AA units and some base forces with 2 Army HQ and 1 Air HQ.
Between Darwin and Daily there are 205,000 supplies and every day new convoys are comming from the DEI.

In China we get Wochow with few troubles. Now advancing northwards.
One attack around Ichang planned for tomorrow.
I used my mongolian 7th div. to bomb Sining and found that he has airlifted an indian Bde!!!!![X(][:-] That's a problem cause if he starts to airlift at Chungking the UK divisions i'm toasted!!!!
Ok, Plan B. 60 zeros will perform a LRCAP over Chungking tomorrow and see if my fears are true.

In Cent-Pac i did not manage to get over that damned convoy and now all my ships are in red status. Will try the last attempt tomorrow, dividing my forces in 2 CV TFs ( screen shot). However it will go i will have to come home then.

Mining operations started today at Rabaul and Saipan.

Planned another attack at Manila for tomorrow.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/01/42

Today , finally, we cleaned the hex NW of Ichang. 4out of 5 units retreated. Tomorrow the last one will put down his weapons.
Slowly advancing in the south. Tomorrow the first unit should leave Wochow, moving northwards.
He tried to surpise me at Kumming. 50 planes spotted there. Probably fighters. Tomorrow 27 zeros+27 oscars+ 60 bombers will give him a payback...at least i hope so.
The LRCAP over chungking prooved that my fears were right![:o][:-][:-][:-] He's airlifting units from Burma! 16 transports shot down with the loss of only one zero!

In Burma he started to health me with my own medicine: ground attacks! Gotta keep my units roteating now ( one mixed bde, attacked by 80 wellingtons, suffered 80 distruption!!!![X(]

In Cent-Pac, i managed to sink or badly damage 10 TKs. Now my CVs will go back.
Many TFs spotted around Bora Bora. I will make some raids here during this summer[8D]

At Daily he did not move....strange. I keep bombing his troops every day.

At Manila the forts are down to 2. in 6 days the Imperial flag will blow over the city[;)]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/02/42


With the beginning of June things seem to be much clearer all over the fronts.

CENT-PAC.
With one Bde already there ( the 56th), altough in bad conditions, and one more Bde strong unit ( the S.S.Detachment) on the way, the Fiji should not last for long time.
My BBs, even if with low fuel levels, are commin'. One DD division will bomb Suva tomorrow.
No signs of enemy surface or CV TFs around.
My CVs are having heavy fuel problems. They're gonna come back to Truk in bad shape ( most of them are already on their 10 sys dmg.!)
The pilot strenght of my carriers IJN is more or less intac. No problems here.
It seems that for the moment he has no intentions of attacking in this theatre. I'll spend the summer building up and fortifying my bases and sending reinforcements from HomeLand.

CHINA:
As you can see in the map my main forces are concentrated in the north and in the center, but it's the souther front the most mobile!
He has been clearly cought by surprise here.He hasn't enough forces to stop my advance towards Kweilin 'cause the only forces he has in this area are defended Changsha and Hengchow.
The Blue Heart Operation prooved to be a success, at least for the fact that has sucked in the middle of china more than 150,000 men that, vice-versa, could have been deployed to stop my advance in the south.
For what concerns Ichang, we finally cleared the road NW of it.
Now the plan is simple, even if really difficult to be done:
PLAN RED - advance and occupy Kweiling and the other base west of it and so cut Changsha and Hengchow out of the rail communication line. Place a 120 AV base force at Wuchow ( this base force in 6 days will be unloaded at Hong kong) and so advance the line of fire and threaten the heart of china with my southern bomber groups.
This will surely force him to take a decision wether is it worth or not to defend Changsha and Hengchow being cut from his rear and from any good supply route. Between Changsha and Hengchow there are now less than 120,000 men, but are really worn and i bet, low on supplies.1 regiment ( a fragmented division) will guard Whochow, while
2 regiments ( always fragments ) will be guarding the river crossing northwest of Canton.
- at the same time 2 divisions, with one arty unit as support will try to cross the yellow river north-west of Changsha, so closing the exit door for those 50,000 troops trapped at Changsha. He has 5 units, for 35,000 men on the other side of the river so it will be a bloody shock attack, but the only important thing will be to force him to withdraw more units towards Chungking...
3 divisional fragments ( the ones who cleared the path north-west of Ichang, will try a river crossing moving westwords, making so pressure on the easter flank of the Chungking's defensive perimeter.
- 5 full division (plus the 13th HQ Army,2 Arty units, 2 Eng regiments) will move westwards from the hex NE of Chungking, occupying the road that from Chungking leads to Chengtu. He's actually moving back his units that in the past months tried, with no results, to get back Chengtu. These units will be trapped on the trails, with no supply source.
At this point I'll divied 2 divisions in fragments and leave 4 fragments there, while the rest of the army will march inside Chungking, in order to stop any further possible movement of the 22 units guarding the Chinese Capital.
- 1 Division will remain in defence on the hex NE of Chungking, guarding the supply lines, untill my 14th army will be entered in Chungking. When this will happen, this division ( the 35th i think) will move westwards, so freeing up the movement of the other 4 fragments that will be moving southwest, in order to complete and close the pocket.
- 5 divisions( plus the 1st and 4th Armies, 1 eng regiment, 2 arty units) will try the bloody river crossing moving SE and so occupying the Chungking's easter flank, where 35,000 men are waiting for me. It's going to be damned bloody, cause i cannot use the "all follow" command due to the risk of the "ghost division bug", so the first division that will cross the yellow river will be slaughtered...
However, i think he won't be able to push me back, considering that at the same time units of the 11th Army will be pushing on his eastern flank.
- Well, when and if the 1st and 4th army will be ready to open and clean the eastern flank of Chungking the trap will be ready!
- the 4th Army with 3 eng regiments will move with 4 divisions towards Ichang,while 7 Divisions with 2 army HQ will keep the Chungking garrison trapped.
- The first goal will be to conquest Ichang and take those 140,000 chinese as POWs. Only after that it will be Chungking's turn.
- While the central and northern Chinese fronts are really busy in doing that, the southern front will try to close the pocket on Changsha and conquest that city and Hengchow.

OZ:
Very strange. His 16 units ( 120,000 men, 1000 guns and 390 tanks) aren't moving northwards. Probably they're waiting for some more supply flows or to decrease their fatigue levels...do not know.
However, the same ballet of always. He bombs daily at night. I bomb his troops during the day. My 16th Army is now ready at 60 miles north of Daily. 2 Divisions, 2 arty units and 1 tank regiment as rear guard. Not bad.
The plan here is simple understand where there will be it's main effort ( center-western flank-eastern flank) and then move the 16th Army in and push him back.
At the moment , as i said, there are 880 Assault points at Daily( under the command of the 14th Army) and 400 on both flanks. The 16th Army has more or less 750 APs. Enough, i hope if i play my cards in the right way.

BURMA:
Now it's becomming a problem. His air supremacy is suppressing my ground units. Gotta get rid of China asap so that i can move in some planes and fight him back!

LUZON:
Another day of relax today( same for tomorrow). Forts are down to 2 and the end of the PI campaign i close enough to make me gay.
When this damned Manila will be over, the score should become better. Now it's 3-1 and he's closing the gap with the air losses!:-(
we're, i think, 6,000 Allies vs. 18,000 Jap. With Manila in japs' hands he will lose 1200 points,so with the pows points probably will be something around 1200 points minus for him and 800 plus for me.
it will bring me to 18,800 and him to 4,800. With Suva i'll get 650 more points...so very close to the 4-1 ratio. If i manage to do a good job in China i can easily go beyond that ratio!

A good day!

Incredibly the new heroes of the 110th Division managed to cross the yellow river, shock attack some 35,000 chinese, obtain a 3-1 odds and clean the Eastern flank of Chungking! Now i have a foothold on the other side of the river and my units will be free to flow!!!!

In Burma there are a lot of problems.
Today he started to recon Saigon. This means that his 4Es from Akyab will begin the night-time slaughterhouse on my main base in Indo-China. Moved in 100 fighters, in order to discourage him from a daylight bombing...but this situation cannot last for long:-(

In Oz....well finally his first unit entered at Daily. It's a tank unit. After 20 minutes of thinking i decided to shock attack. I know that probably the rest of his army will follow tomorrow and that i will be facing an overwhelming force, but i considered that if my bombers can slow him down for one more day i can put in tratters his whole plan. If the attack won't go as i hope, i could always send in some reinforcements from the rearguard.....let's cross the fingers!

Tomorrow i'll attack manila again. I need badly those divisions to be sent in oz and stabilize the front. No way i can do without them.

An unlucky naval bombardment at Suva cause the loss of 2 DDs and the damage of a CL[:(]....my BBs will give to these dutchs some lessons!!!![:@]

Probably one of th best days in the war.
4 Jap divisions are occupying the flanks of Chungking.
The first Chinese counterattack have been repulsed NE of Canton and tomorrow we'll push them back.
The first battle at Daily was a complete succes. The 3rd Aus tank regiment has been almost destroyed.
And, above all, Manila fell today. 60,000 allies in the bag[8D]. 5divisions, 2 Brigades,2 tank regiments and 3 eng regiments free to be moved somewhere else.

Well, now 120 transports are 1 day far away from Manila. They'll start loading my divisions.
In china i'm getting confident. He doesn't have the means to counterattack and i keep all his bases suppressed with my IJAAF. supplies and new base units are comming from Tokyo. Chungking will be very soon isolated.
Now the question is: go directly for the throat( chungking) and hope that 11 divisions are enough or better to move more divisions towards Ichang and start a long battle to get in the bag 140,000 chinese trapped there, while only 6 divisions will keep Chungking sorrounded?

In oz...the victory of today is a Pyrrus one, i know, but it helps me to gain some time in order t be able to let my 2 more divisions arrive at Darwin to secure my backguard and eventually to counterattack. I know that, sooner or later, i will be pushed back from Oz. But i really cannot stand the idea to let him take back Northern Oz by mid 42...he will destroy with his 4Es everything south of Macassar! So the only word is: RESIST!

Always choose the battle where you have superior force.

mmm...i can master to have 11 divisions at best at chungking, while if i move some divs to Ichang i'll have there less than 4000 APs....so....Chungking i'd say. But strategically i fear the empasse. As long as i keep the front fluid and on the move i know i have the advantage upon him

That's certainly correct. If your offensive bogs down, you automatically hand the initiative to him; keep moving.

Ok, let's use some order.

CHINA:
Yes guys, i must keep the flow active and alive. There's still a long long way before getting over China.
The flow of troops on Chungking flanks proceeds well. Now one of my division will move eastwards, cleaning the chinese that stops my advance west of Ichang.
I ordered to 3 Arty units and 3 divisions to leave the siege of Changsha and Ichang and to move towards Sian. They will joing the Chungking army!
The idea is to make a HUGE siege at Chungking, while my southern flank armies advance northwards. I'm planning to mass there, for the final assault 5400 Assault points. Enough...even for Chungking!
The supplies are flowing, even if with some problems. He has no more units throw into the gap and fullfill the losses.
The attack to push back his units that yesterday tried a shock-river-assault went good. They're now behind the water again[:D]

BURMA:
His massive attacks over my land units are causing me many problems. i need to rotate them continously[:(]
3rd day in a row that i do not see his heaviests in Burma.....he's planning something. Gotta keep an eye on my AFs in China.

OZ:
No news. I'm just moving back my western flank in order to be able to cover in a better way my eventual retreat. he still owns 126,000 men in front of me!!!
