Best I can figure is that with realistic R&D OFF, if you turn off repairs it will stop R&D from repairing. I was under the impression that there nothing the player could do to stop r&d, and I globally shut down repairs to conserve supplies.
Well, I guess I did conserve supplies.![;)]
You don't get R&D from a partially disabled factory.

Fixed my meaning.

Harbin will fall tomorrow, there is only 120 AV there of junky garrison troops. Soviet troops moved faster than I could. I think I might be able to take it back...but probably not worth the effort given the dire straits that the Empire is in.
China has fallen pretty much. Allies have Hanoi to Lang Son so Hong Kong won't be long for the Empire either.
After a 70 day hiatus, Jack, George and Frank r&d restarted. That isn't so good.
Japan will run out of resources shortly, then oil, then fuel.

Just a thought.
Time to give up, or maybe to get an understanding with opponent for a different more balanced match?
Maybe even a reload to some months before?

It is difficult to conceive what would be historically plausible in an alternate world where the delivery of a crate of sushi led to a Soviet declaration of war.

Actually, it is not difficult at all. What justification did the Soviets have when they actually did declare war? Stalin would cheerfully have invented a story about Japanese spies and saboteurs landing along with the supplies if he felt he could gain territory -- and it looks like the Soviets are gaining lots of territory in this game.

I have no clue how Obvert does this, but it has happened the entire game, my absolute inability to move SR troops into a contested hex. Very frustrating.
Normally, you can rail into a contested hex (with hexside control), but you cannot rail out of a contested hex.

Harbin holds, thanks to level 4 forts and probably not an entire attack by the Soviets. Plus I thru away about 10 bombers hitting those troops, but probably the saving grace was a partial Soviet attack with lots in pursuit mode.
I have about 4,000 AV moving in on Harbin, and hope to be able to deliver some kind of set back to the Soviets here.

Looking at the bleak industrial picture of Japan, there is only 6K oil on Honshu, with really no prospects for getting more back except the occasional drib and drab from southern SRA.
Resources are tricky too, in that I greatly expand LI in the beginning of the game, and never conquered the resources to supply it. There is about 660K resources on Honshu, HOkkaido is sucked dry, but Sakhalin has 2.4 million. Of course getting that back is a priority, and moving the IJN surface fleet to the Kuriles will become a necessity.
The KB will have to watch over Brunei and Samah.

I think you know how much we readers appreciate you soldiering on (without complaint!), detailing the hurt in your AAR faithfully.
Do you think it's as hopeless as it seems? What is your guesstimate as to how long Japan can make it?

Allies are approaching 2-1 in VP; I think I might be able to keep most of Korea. China is lost. I doubt I could even keep any of the port bases, as the Japanese bombardments in general are poor, and the surface fleet has to move to protect the Kuriles to keep the resource flowing into Honshu.
Honshu is strong, and the KB is around to mess with major invasions.
My guess is the Allies win in mid 43 or sooner depending upon their tactics. There has been no strategic bombing yet of Honshu, and when that starts the fall will accelerate greatly. Just the mere threat of it has weakened Japan. Although I did manage to shoot down 8 B24 and 6 Liberator II last turn but during the daytime....a night bombing of Japan this early would definitely cause Japan to crumble.
I have no reserves, except restricted troops on Honshu. No port is safe for repairs. Minimal oil.

Harbin doesn't get attacked today, I think the Soviets want to eliminate retreat paths and or wait for the big motorized division to the west to arrive back in Harbin. 4,000 IJA AV is moving on Harbin from three directions, hopefully I can get there.
British, Dutch, Commonwealth troops are flowing like a river from Lang Son into China proper.
