As Axis I am often pleased when the Western Allies use their strategic bombers on ground strike missions.
Especially when they fail. [;)]
The allies got excited when the axis rolled a 1. At worse, the axis would have to re-roll and move the marker on the initiate track 1 close to the allies, which would be to 0. At best, the allies would win the second roll and make mush out of the axis in the East and in Austria/Poland. Maybe some too in France. Well, all of this is predicated that the allied don't roll a 1. However, the allied players had the gut feeling that they that's exactly what they were going to roll. I don't know why, but they had it right. The allies roll a 1 too, so no re-roll was necessary and the axis move first.ORIGINAL: Courtenay
I have seen few setups that demand a reroll on initiative as much as that one does. A double move here by the Soviets is devastating.

At this stage of the war, hitting German production is a lot less important than earlier in the war. Any newly produced units won't be on the map for very long, and if you can get rid of some units that are already there, that is worth it.ORIGINAL: Orm

Is the Hannover militia the only Axis unit, in supply, in mainland USSR?
The four units around Vilna are supplied from Kaunas. Also, as soon as one unit in Rommel's pocket retreats one hex, the other units will be back in supply. However, I don't see any way that the Germans can stop the units now in Pskov from being cut off again, and as moving into the swamp would flip them, staying right where they are is almost certainly best for them. Rommel and the units around him can get into supply, and the Germans can guarantee they stay that way through the Russian movement of the first impulse.ORIGINAL: Orm

However, given that the weather is absolutely horrifying from the German point of view, the only question is what is the best Russian move the first impulse -- a supercombined, or Zhukov using an O-chit. The answer depends on how many Russian bombers are in range of the German line. If there are a lot, the supercombined is probably the way to go. I don't see that many, though, so maybe Zhukov. In any case, I would expect the Russians to make mincemeat of the German position.
