He takes no losses... flak fire is just pathetic even though there should be enough flak to seriously harm those low flying bombers. Alone the 16x4,7 DP guns from the big base force there should put up some nice flak fire, I´m not sure if the enemy bombers are flying too low for the flak guns, it seems only a couple of 25 mm and 13 mm guns are firing. [&:] Thought this isn´t possible in the flak fanboy mod?

As it stands now, this is a serious problem...

yes, the whole army in India is not adequately supplied, which means I can not fight an ongoing ground war at the moment. But all my units are fully supplied, as well as Yanam which has 2000 requested supply at the moment, with 8000 supply being at the base. Supply can´t be an issue for the flak defense at Yanam. Must have been a bad day I guess. We will see, I´m sure Miller will keep up his attacks now.

I have ordered 3 flak btn back into the base, they should arrive there within the next two days. Hopefully it will be more painful for him to bomb the base. I want the base´s airfield operational when my TFs arrive.

but there is supply AT THE BASE! As well as my units are fully supplied. The base has four times the needed supply at the moment.

damn, I´m a dork! This sub has been sitting there for two weeks now and I´ve sent a convoy there to pick up one of my units. Thought I could be lucky, of course I wasn´t. The medium AP is sunk. Wonder if it makes any difference in the game if a sub has been spotted. I knew the sub was there, the game didn´t I guess...

the fragile Swordfish that was damaged by flak crashed on the way home. Today, three ac were claimed by our flak guns but not really a lot of the bombers damaged. I need A LOT of bombers damaged in one turn to see their morale being hit hard, which would be great when my carriers show up again. Perhaps Miller´s bomber get a nasty surprise tomorrow as today the three mentioned AA units entered Yanam again (two rgt and a btn). So our invasion hex has the AA defense it should have again. Was a mistake of mine to move the AA units out and to rely on my fighters. I´ve thought that Miller wouldn´t attack anyway.

there are three more Chinese units on the way to Sian, arriving within the next days. This will probably bring the assault value of the defender up to 3800-4000 which would be the strongest defensive position of the enemy that we have attacked so far. I guess we will concentrate on cutting the base off for now and then starve them with a deliberate attack now and then. I don´t know if Sian gets any auto supply, wouldn´t be good as the auto supply isn´t stopped by enemy troops in the hex.

I guess the Allied troops at Myityina really have supply issues, which makes it even harder to understand for me why he hasn´t ordered those troops to move back to India when he already knows that I have 5.000 assault value there. The enemy troops in the Calcutta area are still NOT moving towards the invasion area - another thing I don´t understand at all. Is he fearing my second wave that could land near Diamond Harbour?

it´s obvious that the three AA units do make a difference! [:D] I guess Miller now has to think about bombing my base that low. We have some 140 engineers at the base but it´s now inoperational. AF damage at 90 and base at 66. Just give me two days without bombing and the airfield is ready for 5 Zero daitais again. My TFs are 5 or 6 days out at the moment.

The first attack on my base included more than 80 Wellingtons, I guess there won´t be more than 40 operational tomorrow. And I also hope that their moral is pretty bad already. But again I´m wondering if all my weapons are firing at those low flying aircraft. Same number of Hurricanes and Wellingtons but the Wellingtons took far more damage at 6000ft than the Hurricanes did at 2000ft.

11 ac shot down by flak is a good result to begin with!

Miller stopped his air attacks on Yanam, either because he thinks my AA is too strong or, which I think, that he prepares for attacks on my shipping which was spotted going all the way towards Yanam. The TFs are now 8-10 hexes South of Yanam. 8-10 because once again my TFs got separated, even though all transport TFs are following the slowest moving TF... [8|]

Miller flew LRCAP over Yanam today, engaging a couple of Tina transports that are flying in construction btn to get Yanam´s airfields back into 100% operational state again. Only one Tina was lost to ops out of 48 flying. With my ships so near to Madras already I expect Miller to set all his bombers on nav attack and all his fighters/fighter bomber on escort tomorrow.

Tomorrow I will tangle with some PTs at Madras, ordered 6 DDs to move in flank speed, hopefully sinking all four of them. They are the remnants of the Royal Navy in India.

Miller told me that it would make no sense to have the RN in India as I would just sink them, IMO they would be very valuable as I won´t go near Ceylon to deal with 400 British aircraft and he could really make it a mess when my CVs are away to cover Yanam which is still the only base I own to land some troops and the even more important supply. Lesson learnt: never send the Royal Navy into the Pacific when you can´t be sure that the Japanese isn´t invading India!

Could you put a summary of the situation on the occasion ?  Or even a big map with the frontline ?  I'm a bit at a loss regarding where you stand now (following and reading too many AARs lately).  I know you're besieging Manilla, mopping up DEI isolated bases, landed a brigade on Mindanao lately.  You're bombing PM IIRC, but did you take Gili-Gili ?  Where did you stop in the South Pacific (New Caledonia, Fiji) ?
I remember Canton Island and nearby bases are well in your hand now, any plans to go for the Line Islands in the near future ?

I´m besieging Manila and I will NOT attack there! I will just starve them to death and I can tell you, they are starving! As mentioned earlier, the enemy loses 10 points for ground losses every turn, the majority must be from the siege of Manila. I now have some 300+ assault points there, I guess 150 would be sufficient to keep the enemy in place. Manila is just a big prison camp for 50.000 Allied troops. No sense attacking there, with the urban bonus I would still need 2-3 divs to take the base at acceptable losses even if the enemy is out of supply. But, I just don´t have to take that base, no need to! One other thing to remember: Miller used subs - and is still using them - to bring out fragments of those units at Manila to rebuild them as soon as they die there. So, the sooner I kill those troops off there, the sooner he can begin to rebuild them in Australia! [;)]

I´m boming PM, the base is no threat, I can´t see much of a chance that it will become a threat within the next 6-12 months. I have take Gili Gili and built it up, together with Lae I can place some 600 aicraft next to PM, so please come and try to reinforce PM without a strong carrier cover! [:D]

The reason I´ve landed the bgd on Mindanoa were the ongoing attempts of Miller to place bombers at Davao where he has four units at the moment, probably 3 base forces and an understrenght PA division. I want to clear the island of the enemy bomber "threat" and the bgd is one of my "spare" bgds anyway.

As you can see in the next screenshot, I did stop North of New Zealand! First I´ve thought about attacking New Zealand and Northern Australia to get rid of the danger of an assault on the SRA out of Australia, with the loss of 2 US CVs (better say 3 as the third one surely needs 6 months of repairs!) and the RN in the Pacific I decided to go for India instead as you already know. If I will be able to crush the British in India I can use a lot of divisions to prepare my defensive positions which will be needed from mid 43 on. At least that´s what I guess, attacking earlier big style would probably cause again losses to the Allied CV force which they can´t sustain. Losing one, two or three carriers in mid-late 44 is not that a tragedy for the Allied, losing them 42 or 43 is near a tragedy! [8D]

India: no I don´t think that Nells and Betties would sink the Royal Navy, at least not during the first weeks of the invasion as there is just no base to put them onto. At the moment there´s only Yanam, which is a level 3 airfield (built up from 1) and Betties don´t carry torps from a level 3 airfield. But that is not the major factor, the problem is that if Miller would go ahead he could have easily put my airfield there out of action, ongoing attacks on the airfield (from higher alt than 6.000ft) would have even made it impossible to build it up! Miller once again missed a chance to cause me trouble. So far, the defense of India is far worse than I would have expected it. He attacked my invasion force - too late - then noticed that he could harm my carriers (put a bomb into Zuikaku that caused 36 sys dam in the end and a torp into a BB that caused 25 sys dam - both ships have nearly arrived in Japan for repairs) but that was already too late as he attacked when my ships were already ordered to retreat. Then he switched over to attacks on Yanam, again too late and stopped it as soon as I increased the flak defense again and when my ships showed up 720 miles off the coast. More info on that matter in the next combat reports.

There would be no sense to move his British aircraft to China as there´s no base in China I can´t bomb to dust with the IJAAF. If he wants to have them secure, he could move his aircraft to Karachi or Bombay or somewhere else inland of India.

I guess the supply that comes in with the second wave should be sufficient for the ongoing assault on the area around Madras, the ships carry another 70.000 supplies. I´m already loading every ton of spare supplies in Burma onto small AKs so that I can bring them in as soon as my second wave has returned to Rangoon, I hope to bring another 70.000 supplies then. Which means I have brought some 210-220.000 tons of supplies to India! This is more than 10% of the available supply on the map and surely not something easily to do! The opposite is true, this offensive will bleed my supply depots dry if I won´t be able to take an enemy base with huge supply depots. In the past I always have been able to take a base like Bombay with 300 or 400.000 supplies and fuel which fed my further assaults, but one thing is for sure, without that, supply can be a major factor that will prevent my troops from moving on. Time of course is also a factor.

And here´s the strategic map. I don´t intend to extend my positions further into the Pacific, major operations are of course planned for India, which is the primary task for nearly the whole IJN and big parts of the IJA and China, which means that I intend to take the North of China, reducing the enemy to the central parts of China without much supply to mount a counter attack, even though there would be more than enough troops.

We will see how those two operations will go, if both will work like planned, then the IJA divs in India will be used to garrison the subcontinent and to strenghten our defense of the SRA towards Australia. I won´t use major IJA units to garrison outer line of atolls in the Pacific, this will be the task of IJN units. As soon as the outer line falls, the enemy will meet major IJA units on the inner line of defense.

If China is knocked out, I could also think about an attack on Russia to take pressure off our German Ally if Germany decides to attack Russia! [;)]

Thanks for the map and the explanations.  I'm still not used to the sparcity of supplies for Japan.[:o]

But I now understand why you don't attack Manilla.  It's devious - I love that.[:D]

Here´s the Royal Navy, defending the most important part of India! [;)] Seriously, I do see those four PTs as a major threat to my ships. They of coures won´t sink KB and all my BBs in the area, but they can put a torpedo into one of my BB/CA that tries to bombard a base, will slow the ship down and put the whole TF into torpedo carrying swordfish range that then sinks a cruiser or two or even some BBs... been there, done that...

and in fact, this encounters started as bad as it could be, my TF was surprised by the enemy! With complete luck on my side, three of the four PTs fired their torps but missed! Phewww! In return, only one was sunk after the surprise phase. I hate the buggers, normally I trade a DD sunk and one or two damaged for one TF of 6 PTs destroyed...

we want to clear the way for a cruiser TF that is going in next turn to do a bombardment. All my TFs are spotted so I guess Miller will be smart enough to figure out that this TF six hexes away from Madras is a bombardement TF and there probably won´t be any aircraft at Madras and that´s ok with me. No aircraft there, no attacks on my ships! [8D]

this is a strike into KB´s hex and when the strike came in from Madras I was sure it would be targetting my carriers. In the end it turned out we were again lucky (must be my lucky weeks at the moment!) and this strike went after a troop transport TF. At the beginning of my invasion weeks ago, Miller missed the right time to attack my ships and he was too late. Well, this time, when my second wave goes in, he is too EARLY! [8D] I knew that his Hurricanes have only a range of 5 hexes so I´ve placed my TFs six and seven hexes away from Madras on their way to Yanam and the first strike from Madras comes in from S E V E N hexes, without Hurricanes, only with a couple of AVG Tomahawks that were very low on morale and turned around quickly! So my plan worked, I would have suggested Miller to set all his bombers to nav attack 5 hexes, I´m glad he didn´t!

What was also impressing is the number of Zeroes on Cap, another bit of my plan seemed to work as I switched out my carriers within KB. I´ve replaced some big fleet carriers with smaller ones as this brings me more fighters in total as the small carriers nearly carry as many Zeroes but no Vals and I can´t put all my carriers into one hex due to our stacking rule. This was the best way I was able to think about to give my ships some aircover and it seemed to work. And still, pass after pass on the enemy bombers, they refused to go down and the longer the engagement lasted, the more I became nervous! The bombers had still a pretty good morale and it took dozens of attacks until I saw them slowly turning back. The Allied bomber attacks on Yanam earlier are the major factor here, without those attacks I guess two dozen more bombers would have broke through my Cap. In the end, only 6 bombers release their bombs over some transports but all miss. YES! [&o] At this point I was pretty sure the reinforcement of my India adventure will become a success as those bomber squadrons won´t be able to fly concentrated attacks in the next days.

Want to point out again how well the mod works! Imagine stock, those 168 Zeroes would have shot down EVERY attacking bomber, here there isn´t even a dozen shot down. Perhaps a tad too few but I prefer a tad too few than 5 times too many.

I didn´t mention an attack on Russia so far (as I don´t want him to plan for it) but I will grant Miller 4 weeks time to redeploy his ground forces if I will decide to attack. But that´s not sure at all. If I will attack, then I will fly major air attacks on his airforce during the first days of activation as he can move his aircraft around already. I won´t start a ground offensive for the first 4 weeks though.

I thought this would be interesting also, here are the IJN´s "major" naval losses. I have left out the merchants.



guess that´s not bad for 6/42. Without the two times when the Allied carriers suddenly showed up near my bases to sink nearly 30 merchants I would nearly have no ship losses. But the losses to warships are great so far!

My former opponent bigbaba lost POW and Repulse near Singapore, Miller was responsible for the loss of Saratoga and Enterprise with Lexington heavily damaged. Only four cruisers lost and a couple of DDs. Important also is the confirmed loss of 35 subs. Otherwise there were no extraordinary losses, nearly no escapes from the SRA. Without the carrier losses, the Allied Navy would be in excellent shape and pretty dangerous. As it stands now, more or less only my floating atoll-CVs that carry dozens of Betties are the only really dangerous factors in the Pacific. But this will begin to change with every Allied CV that will be comissioned.

As expected, Miller moved out his aircraft and we hit an empty base. We do some nice damage within the enemy´s base forces but that´s it. Would like to see far more hits on the airfield to close the airfield once and for all. The plan now is to keep Madras´ airfield closed until we take the base! We can´t rely on our cruisers and battleships for that task though as there is no chance to replenish them nearby and they have to go the long way back to Rangoon to refuel and rearm.

I´ve flown in around 100 medium bombers to fly constant attacks on Madras´ airfield from now on. Raid is coming from Yanam of course. Level 3 so the bombers are coming in with a reduced bomb load, therefore we have to live with a rather low hit rate. Attacking from 16.000 ft doesn´t help the hit rate either, but going in lower would be suicide as there are 12 reported units at Madras now. 12 units could mean trouble, even though we get recon of only some 20.000 enemy troops there. I gues we will mostly face support troops but the urban bonus... you know...

perhaps we won´t be able to take the base at acceptable losses, I´m already planning for an alternative scenario. We need a big port in India! Or at least a base where I could build up a level 5 port+

This means that the airfield is closed now. But in three or four turns KB will set sail home again as my TFs are all unloading at Yanam at the moment. Then we will have to rely on our medium bombers at Yanam. I guess we need at least 50 hits on the airfield each turn to keep the field closed... Allied eng vehicles repair those fields pretty fast... and if the airfield gets operational again, the enemy could counterstrike with a raid on Yanam and close the field there. Good thing at the moment is the fact that my TK rgts, a div and a special base force are moving on Hyderabad (level 3 airfield to be built up to 6) to the North of Madras. As soon as we have a level 4 airfield there we will be able to surpress Madras with LBA I guess... more aviation units are unloading with this second wave of troops at the momen...
