Lots of mediums allocated to Paoshan. I've decided I'm going to try and relieve the place by air, though even that will take a week or so unfortunately and so be too late. They were flying real low deliberately, and flew right under the CAP, the Tonies didnt even engage. All the damage done to the Liberators was by flak/balloons, and it was pretty light when set against the damage done...

I got no idea why Takao was disbanded in port. BAD IDEA. I told my foe that she'd have been in a TF she'd have been fine! I'm not sure he realised... he is kinda new to WITP after all.

Yup, I was surprised too.

I think port attacks are way too accurate.

6000' bombing probably helped - plus that unit has an average ground bombing skill in the low 80s, and a couple of pilots with skill 90.

Cruisers are patrolling at Georgetown because I got a convoy filled with baseforces and supply for Malaya coming in. While torpedo hits are never nice I'm quite sanguine about this result, the cruisers in question are not in danger of sinking and can still make good speed. It'll be some yard time at Cape Town but not unduly long yard time I imagine. Meanwhile he lost 33 Jills today, they got absolutely slaughtered - unfortunately mostly after dropping their ordnance rather than before it. So Singers has been defanged for the convoys. The RN has plenty of cruisers, so two being out for a few months isn't the end of the world.

Incidentally Kuala Lumpur is now mine, as we're almost all the way to Johore Baru. This means MTBs can start raiding Singapore! much more safe than using cruisers and DDs, plus always good fun. Lots of merchants there, I think MTBs will do a good job against the place.

erk. I've given them the order to pull out, I doubt even that'll be fast enough given 'forward over the bodies!' seems to be the mantra at Japanese high command. Still, the kill ratio seems pretty good for a bunch of heavily outnumbered second line colonial troops and Chinese. Thats 3 divisions worth of Japanese troops disabled in three days. Presumably fixing that will involve supply, and presumably, hopefully, a little trail on a mountain range won't be adequate to provide that supply. Though given how Rangoon largely supplies itself from India along trackless jungle, I'm a bit dubious about that.

As predicted, some heavy damage done there. A relatively bloodless (for the Allies...) and quick capture. Av support being brought in from bases further south in Papua. Sorong allows us to properly support bases in the Molucca area, and that allows us to properly support Talaud when the airfield has been built. Might be possible to bond Mindanao from here too with B24s though I confess I've not checked given Babeldaob definitely can and I got bases closer still.

Kinda sad about no -disruption mod though given every Allied bomber in range was ordered to attack today!

A division is coming in from Sabang, is a few days away. Then everything attached by road to Sabang will be mine. Even if the IJA manages to recapture Singapore somehow - those troops at Paoshan might require a major Commonwealth response after all if they intend to press further on, into Burma - access to the oil is emphatically over at this point as I don't think Japan is in a state to invade any islands now in the face of Allied naval and air power.

I plan on further landings in southern Sumatra at Bengkoelen to take Palembang and Oosthaven but it's probably not strictly necessary at this point. It will certainly help clinch control over the Java Sea though so is worth doing I guess. To be honest though this is essentially the victory line for the Commonwealth I think in terms of making a strategic difference to the war. We'll see how things look when Singapore has been dealt with, sieging the place might be extremely costly and take a very long time, but I guess further operations would be mostly for prestige at this point alone. If the main body of the IJA is in Paoshan, as it appears, and if the reconstituted 4000 AV Chinese Army can hold them there, perhaps a drive through Vietnam into China is a worthwhile and feasible enterprise, but I think it'd be a sideshow compared to the US taking the Philippines.

Even if this is the final victory line the Commonwealth has had a very good war I think - for a long time they were the only bright spot in a sea of misery, though the American (ground) war machine is rolling along nicely now as well and is aimed at more strategically decisive targets, ie the Philippines. They've managed to burn up at least a dozen Japanese full divisions in successful operations over two years now, plus whatever is in Singapore, assuming that goes into the bag as well ultimately, which is a significant attritional impact on the war as a whole. It makes up a bit for the collapse of China at any rate.

It may be worth invading northern Borneo and Vietnam purely to allow the Commonwealth easier access to the Philippine area, which may be worth having in 1945 if EVERYBODY is involved in a Japan invasion in the end game.

Switched to minelaying, mainly because it seems to be uninterceptable, or difficult to intercept... Can't believe how much of a hard time a handful of Tonies are giving me. The problem is logistical as it so commonly is, I did dump a bunch of supply at Georgetown which allowed air ops and drop tanks the other day, but 14th Army promptly hoovered it all up today, leaving Georgetown with a red ! and double digit supply. More is incoming, including a huge convoy from Cochin with 80,000 supply aboard, when that shows up Allied operations in Thailand and Malaya will be unhindered by that problem at least.

I think I have the answer to what that convoy is doing at Singapore - nothing. I know my opponent quite well and he is incredibly fatalistic, maybe he's already written these guys off with a shrug. There are almost 100,000 troops reported at Singapore, doesn't look like he's evacuating them either... it's not going to fall easy. This should keep the CW tied up for a long time.

This is the convoy that was sitting in Singapore until the RN showed up, their commander pulled them a couple of hexes east - into the submarines, and away from the fighter umbrella. The Philippines is going to be a flippin' huge battle I think... we're starting out with the very initial stages of that campaign now.

The IJN are lurking north of Mindanao, my PBYs at Babeldaob spotted them, plus BBs. they since retreated northwards out of patrol range, but not far north I imagine. Decisive Battle awaits perhaps.

Japan is actually in a temporarily strong defensive position, the only fighters I can use atm over Mindanao are long range P38s from Babeldaob. Talaud Island and Morotai are not built up, and while in Allied posession I cant base any aircraft there bar a squadron of fighters to keep the baddies at bay. If I was Japan now I'd be hitting Talaud and Morotai with everything I got, shore bombardment, the works, as Mindanao is relatively safe until those bases are developed. And intercepting transports almost whatever the cost in surface gunships. There isn't going to be another opportunity like this until the Japanese are fighting over Okinawa I think.

Looks like Sorong is the main target though such as the IJ can muster, I think this is in error. Sorong is now strongly defended, the Allies can fight back hard here, and it's too close to strong Allied forces to bombard with the IJN.

The convoy got av support ashore and the best fighters available were promptly moved up. If I was him, bombard, bombard! P47s vulnerable on the runway! I think he's too afraid of what my LBA can do to his fleet. In any case I think Morotai/Talaud are the key to Mindanao, if I can build these bases to the point that P47s can range at will over Mindanao then the destruction of the IJAAF in Mindanao can begin. Surely this is the time to commit, all in.
