Scalextric did a superb model of this in the early 80's. Great memories.

Yeah real fond memories of Scalextric, had two sets of track to build real long courses. Just our cars would get overheated, loved the smell of the electic overheating. Me and my brother had hours of fun playing and setting up differnt circuits. Would give anything to play again with him, alas he passed away 32 years ago, wish I could turn back the clock.

Warspite you just gave me fond memories of my younger brother, Thanks mate.

Warspite no problems.
I often think of what it would be like to day with him, when I reflect about my younger brother it is always fond memories of him, he never did anything bad I can think of. So in a way it is nice to remember him, somedays it hurts other days it is a nice thought of a short childhood.

I enjoy thinking of him, even if it does hurt sometimes.

Thanks again.

Just look how his head is poking out of the cockpit. They were real drivers back then.

Indeed - remember the Tyrrell from that year - or was it 1984? My memory is failing in my frail dotage...

EDIT: Soz, it was 1984 - that was the car Bellof drove to 3rd at Monaco.

I prefer the newer race cars - anything which improves safety for the driver is a good thing. I sometimes wonder how many of those who died on the track would still be alive if they could have been in a safer car...

Isn't there a race on tomorrow? [>:]

I look forward to next season - the Iceman and Alonso both in Ferrari, this will be fun [:D] . And I will watch Webber how he's doing in his new series - or did he sign up only for Le Mans?

I think the answer is probably a good many of them. The cars are so strong nowadays whereas in the past they were made with things like steel, magnesium and aluminium, they now use carbon-fibre and Kevlar etc. The cars have to undergo crash tests both front and side.

In addition, there are safety features such as the HANS device to protect the neck and spine, the cockpits sides were made higher etc etc.

However, do not forget that it was not the deficiency in the cars that always caused fatalities. The track, the run-off areas and the infrastructure around F1 was also to blameas well as freak bad luck; Francois Cevert was killed because of a poorly placed crash barrier, Tom Pryce was killed because of a track marshal's over exuberence, Roger Williamson and Elio de Angelis died because there was insufficient thought given to fire-fighting and the need for fire-proof clothing and proper equipment to be readily available.

So would they all have survived their accidents in modern cars? No I don't think so, but the death toll would have been a whole lot lower.

Yes there is - lets hope its not another Vettel snooze fest [>:][>:]

Alonso vs Raikonnen will be interesting. My money is on Alonso.

I think Webber has signed for the whole series.

The race... [>:]

Next season, my money is on Raikkonen - I think Alonso is so used to having an adjutant on his side that he will need some time to adjust to this new situation - I cannot imagine Raikkonen acting like a lame duck as Massa did.

Webber does the whole season, that's good - eight races, will be interesting... http://www.fiawec.com/

What a surprise.... it was a vettel snoozefest [>:][>:]

Well either way it will be interesting - you say the Finn, I say the Spaniard. We'll see who is right next year!

I'm still hoping that an Englishman will get the championship! If Hamilton has a car that runs well and a bit more luck, no breakdowns while leading etc. then just maybe.......

Give Lewis the car (and the reliability) and he will do the job. His talent is going to waste with every passing year....[&:]

It's a bit like Nigel Mansell. With just a few changes in luck, he could have easily been a 4/5 time world champion, but......[:(]

Sad news indeed. Was reading her death was a caused by the horrible accident she had when test-driving the Marussia in 2012.

That accident was weird. Don't know if she ever remembered what happened or said, but it was very strange how she just accelerated into the truck...

Another World Championship about to be wrapped up for Vettel[&:]

Sorry, but until he gets a decent team mate, he is in the same camp as Schumacher - we won't ever really know how good he is and Ayrton Senna will remain THE best driver ever.

Not a very good car sadly - but certainly one of the prettiest!

The RAM 03 from 1985.
