Best News of the Day
Japanese forces CAPTURE Kendari !!!

Philippine Update
Bataan is isolated. Forces are gathering at Clark Field to begin ground assault, but still a week or so away from all the necessary parts to arrive to form up the Divisions needed. While waiting, there is daily bombing of the airfields.

There was a large number of small craft at Bataan. I imposed a blockade and started naval attacks which seemed to influence Allied High Command to begin staging small packets of these ships South toward Tarakan.

Around Samar, there remains a fair sized Allied force at two bases: Iloilo (~7K troops) and Cebu (~6.5K troops, recon planes, 54 guns and 50 AFVs). I have a submarine prowling these waters looking for single ship supply runs.

Around Jolo, I have DesDiv1 on patrol. I ordered them to close the gap.
They intercept a beatup group (combat replay showed them already smoking from some damage)

Not a big battle, but I wanted to show how much experience a ship like Maikaze has gained in the actions so far. She has been in 4 Surface Combats and at least 2 encounters with submarines. Look at the Day/Night experience. Pretty good little ship.

A suggestion from the peanut gallery from an economy idiot.

Limited by Oil Centres typically means you do not have enough oil reserves to for the refineries to function. It looks like 695 of the 1619 refineries were not able to produce fuel.

Limited by Resource Centre's probably means that 11 of your light industry could not produce due to lack of resources.

Suggestions always appreciated.

When I look in the Industry screen of the game and sort on Failed -- nothing comes up as failed to produce. I am not sure where to look to identify those factories or refineries that need more oil/resources.

Thanks for the clue, that gives me something to look for.

Maybe it is not failure to produce as much as failure to produce to full capacity? It does say 'Limited By'

Edit: Also, there is a minimum stock required for a factory to produce. I am not sure if it is different between fuel, Oil and Resources however.

Post a copy of your Tracker industry chart, and I will show you what it means.

Hint: Look at the oil and resource ovals section.

Thanks Lowpe -
I am not sure what 'oil and resource ovals' mean but this is the Industry/Oil&Resource tracker screen. I sorted on Oil and then showed the locations with 11k or less as a group hoping to catch one of those troubled refineries.

If not, please give me a more basic (click tab/sort/look) and I will post another screen.

Click on the WITP Chart tab.

You could also sum up the Diff/Day column for all your regions and you will get the same answer I believe. Easier to see it on the Chart page though.

Post 364 was the Witp Chart for that day (Feb 28, 1942).

Here is the Oil/Resource upper screen sorted on Day/Dif (Oil)

I am trying to see if I need to ship/unload oil/resources at different point. I know I am not shipping in enough oil yet. I am still clearing out parts of the DEI. Tankers are gathering to start runs to the Home Islands.

Thanks very much for your help

Resources are x20 and oil is x10 on the chart. It is your total global shortfall.

But it goes to show you are in dire need of boosting your oil production.

So nothing is actually failing to produce at the moment. Just a general warning to increase imports - is that correct?

Back in late January, Resources were way way worse, so I have addressed Resources somewhat. Oil imports are not flowing in heavily yet. I am trying the very restrictive concept of only shipping oil/fuel in AO/TK/ or the few xAKs that have a small liquid tanks.

That makes me very cautious trying to run fuel out of Balikpapan until the DEI is more secure. Palembang is heavily infested and Tarakan is still in Allied hands.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think it has anything to do with what's shipping where, it's an overall global thing. It's just telling you that you're using more oil and resources globally than you're producing globally.

You haven't run out yet, but you're going to eventually is all it's saying.

I've never seen the Resources one, but I've had the Oil one up forever...

Resources ultimately won't be a problem for global production.

Global production shortfall, nothing to do with imports, but of course the largest diff/day is Japan with oil.

Look for bases that generate oil: a few in China, Magwe in Burma, Java, Sumatra, Miri (depending on damage), Taraken, Balikpapen area, Boela, etc., etc.

Not a lot going on today, bomb/bombard/rinse/repeat at various points

China Note
35th ID has been replenished and upgraded in Peiping, moving back toward Chengchow
15th ID has been replenished and upgraded in Shanghai, heading back toward Changsha
I would like to get a couple more upgraded before launching the next phase of attacks. More on that at the end of the month (with maps).

Ship Upgrades
Most of the Kamakaze class ships have been/or are close to completion of their upgrades, giving them some ASW ability.

This turn I allowed a group of DSW to start upgrades in prep for work after Singapore falls.
DD Tachikaze beginning refit in shipyard at Kobe
DD Numakaze beginning refit in shipyard at Kobe
DMS W-1 taken out of commission to begin refit at Kobe
DMS W-6 taken out of commission to begin refit at Saigon
DMS W-12 taken out of commission to begin refit at Saigon
DMS W-13 taken out of commission to begin refit at Saigon
DMS W-14 taken out of commission to begin refit at Saigon
DMS W-18 taken out of commission to begin refit at Saigon

SigInt Notes
Heavy Volume of Radio transmissions detected at San Francisco (218,70).
Heavy Volume of Radio transmissions detected at Pearl Harbor (180,107).
Heavy Volume of Radio transmissions detected at Darwin (76,124).

not quiet sure what to make of this, but at least I have a sub or two patrolling those areas.

Southeast Area
B-17 and B-24 raids over Lunga continue. I am trying to think of a way to raid or disrupt those bastages. It would take forever to get part of the KB from Hong Kong down this way but I have snuck the two small CVEs of CarDiv3 to the Truk area. There is a BB, 5-6 CAs, 10+ DDs and oilers I could cobble together a raiding force.

Recent action in the area was a raid by some Brit light carriers (where I ran out of fuel[:@]) so I am being more cautious and bringing the gas station with me. Still thinking about this thru the current turns...

Burma Notes
After the disastrous crossing into Pegu, I have been changing march orders, repeating, shifting and generally trying to create a virtual dust storm of activity in the area. I also have been sneaking a couple of 126AV Infantry, Support Engineers and 3-4 Armor units up the LOOOONG Road from Chaing Mai to Taung Gyi. My lone Lily attack group is pounding away at Mandalay/ Taung Gyi and points in between to further increase the dust.

Feb 22nd, 1942

Bombing of Changsha, Singapore, Bataan, and Wenchow continues.

I haven't been bombarding Nanyang or Palembang yet. I haven't caught up in time to previous advice. Palembang bombing will start soon.

Upgrade Notes
Repairs completed on DD Oite at Hakodate, ship returned to service
Repairs completed on DD Minekaze at Tokyo, ship returned to service
Repairs completed on DD Sawakaze at Tokyo, ship returned to service
Repairs completed on DD Yukaze at Tokyo, ship returned to service
Repairs completed on DD Okikaze at Shanghai, ship returned to service
Repairs completed on DD Namikaze at Shanghai, ship returned to service

DD Hayate beginning refit in shipyard at Hakodate

Sub Wars Continue
Last turn I beat up on SS 016 in the shallow waters off Davao
This turn SS Sargo takes 4 hits in the shallow waters off of Kalidjati.
Probably didn't kill either one, but they both will be gone for a few weeks if they do survive.

Forgot to mention:

Unit Arrival
10th Garrison Unit (120AV) arrives at Nagoya

It took me a few days to decide, but it is being packed up and shipped to be the garrison at Manila until something better comes along. In Lowpe's AAR () he mentions about Base Forces and some have heavy artillery, so I might revisit this decision once Bataan falls, but until then this works great to satisfy the Garrison Requirement there.

I learn a lot from reading, but even more from doing... so any reluctant noob out there, get in the game (with someone of comparable skills)

Again bombing of the usual suspects.

Cleaning up The Philippines
Pre-Invasion action off Puerto Princesa (73,83)

Japanese Ships
xAK Goyo Maru
xAK Tokai Maru
xAP Huzi Maru
DD Tatsukaze

xAK Goyo Maru firing at 2nd PI Base Force
xAK Goyo Maru fired at enemy troops
xAK Tokai Maru fired at enemy troops
xAP Huzi Maru fired at enemy troops
xAK Goyo Maru fired at enemy troops
Defensive Guns fire at approaching troops in landing craft at 4,000 yards
Defensive Guns fire at approaching troops in landing craft at 2,000 yards

Amphibious Assault at Puerto Princesa (73,83)
TF 71 troops unloading over beach at Puerto Princesa, 73,83
Not much time to prep...

Japanese ground losses:
41 casualties reported
Squads: 2 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 1 (1 destroyed, 0 disabled)

Sub Wars
No confirmed hits in the main naval combat, but under Combat Reporter Submarine reports I get a couple of claimed strikes by ASW air groups.

Ki-21-Ic Sally from 98th Sentai/B attacking a O16 Class class SS at 64,99

Ki-21-Ic Sally from 98th Sentai/C attacking a Triton class SS at 64,99

G3M2 Nell from 1st Ku K-1 attacking SS KVII at 64,97

Ki-48-Ib Lily from 90th Sentai/C attacking a O21 Class class SS at 63,73
a Porpoise class SS is reported HIT

B5N2 Kate from Ryujo-2 attacking SS Stingray at 90,95
SS Stingray is reported HIT

I wonder how many of those HITs are real and how many are just holes in the water...

and as suspected:
Previous report of sinking of SS Sargo incorrect. Intelligence reports ship is still in service
4 hits was not enough. Oh well, maybe I Keel U Next Time!!!!
