Turn 17. May/June 1942. Control.

Japan has nearly been eradicated from China so I was surprised to see so much "red" in China, especially in the north next to Mongolia and Manchuria.

This explains all the red in northern China. Most of that red is Japanese control of desert. And none of that red is in cities or on rail lines. So, it's phantom control.

The USSR should try to divert some units towards Persia and Iraq out of the Far East. The capture of those countries gives them a lot of oil. It's amazing how many oil the USSR will burn during late war, so it's more than welcome. And there is no way any Axis power can do anything about it...

Good point. In my previous AAR (#2 above), I actually ran out of oil with the CW, so I've seen how much oil a big war machine can use per turn.

As the Soviet player, I'll "quietly" start a building in that theater and strike when the fighting season in Eastern Europe has pasted, assuming I have the necessary forces in place for invading Persia and Iraq.

The Euro-Axis faction (i.e., Germany and Italy) still have a commanding lead in this game.

This turn lasted 9 impulses with the axis moving both first and last. The allies won the first roll for the initiative, but the axis demanded a reroll and won.

The "cold-war" between Germany and the Soviet Union continued. That is, these two countries are still neutral with each other.

Turn 18. Jul/Aug 1942. USA Successfully Invades Japanese Home Islands.

Turn 18. July/August 1942. Nanchang, China is Liberated by Mao and his communist Chinese.

Both MacArthur and Nimitz disembark in Nagasaki, Japan on impulse after the successful American landing there. Unlike in real life, there's no command conflict between their two HQs.

Though the Chinese Nationalist do, and have had for a while, the Japanese army in southern China bottled up in Canton and in Hong Kong, unlike the communist, the Nationalist can't muster good enough odds to dislodge them.

I am playing with Chinese attack weakness, which only impacts the Nationalist.

Turn 18. Jul/Aug 1942. South China Sea.

With USA attention turned to Japan and to the China Sea, the IJN was able to reestablish itself and two convoy lines in the South China Sea. However, this "reestablishment" didn't go unnoticed by the USA, who has an overwhelming naval and air force docked in Manila in the Philippines. Also, the CW noticed and has docked battleships and cruisers in Borneo and Sarawak.

Turn 18. Jul/Aug 1942. Japan, Final Production.

The reestablishment of these two convoy routes and the invasion of Japan by the USA resulted in a significant increase in Japanese production from 4 BPs last turn to 9 BPs this turn. Still, a low production compared to most all of the major belligerents.

Note that Japan lost 1 oil point due to a partisan taking control of the Palembang oil fields in the Dutch East Indies.
