I told him like 3 times to write an AAR here, I bet there are much better, meaner Japanese players here (EDIT: unless MrKane is there, lol); and I understand his English is not great... but so what?? same here I am not a native speaker, as long as one can communicate, people will jump to help

but anyway; going off topic; we area getting close to July and it will be time to do another summary of the campaign

Great turn, everything worked fine

- Detached carrier escorts found CA Takao limping back; they put one additional torpedo (for a total of 4) + 12 gun hits before leaving it... For some reason, it is almost impossible to watch a Japanese heavy cruiser sinking, they always, somehow, "manages to escape", then depending on damage, possibly sink (or not). In this case, it would be a miracle for it to survive, but I have no confirmation other than one "Pete" destroyed on ground

- Japanese destroyers sank a small xAKL at Nicobar, this was a ship that was damaged on yesterday's naval bombardment, I decided to let it unload, as to get a chance of disembarking some supply before it sank due to fire

That lone Pete FP may just mean that Takao's Jakes had enough range to make it to shore but the Pete did not? Takao could have survived since those first 3 torps were the smaller British aerial ones, but I think it a bit more likely she sank.

The battle was well within range of Japanese float planes, even Pete: Sabang, Victoria Point, etc are all within normal range. Most likely the float planes rebased, but maybe there was one FP on damaged or maintenance state on board

the other tell-tale of it's sinking is that I got an intelligence report of another CA sunk
in my experience, when you get a total random, same class, ship sinking it means that a sinking occured; while getting the correct ship, reported as sunk after some minimal damage is a good indicator it survived in reality

Interesting observation - I had not noticed that. I will keep an eye out for that in the future!

As mentioned a few posts ago, I was expecting an invasion fleet at Oosthaven from sometime

they arrived, and there was a small welcome committee waiting for them [:D]
obviously we are talking small scale, that is all what is left of the Dutch airfleet; but still some nice little tinders to spark fires [:D]

CV Illustrious joined the party; but regrettably results were so-so at most.

I had both Illustrious and Hermes moving on direction to Oosthaven for the last 2 turns, but he invaded before they reached strike position; hence I had to detach Hermes and run Illustrious at full speed (Hermes is slow at 25knots/ 7 hexes per phase... was not enough).

The end result:
- Only PM strikes due to weather
- 3 Japanese ships torpedoed; I am not positive any will sink
- Illustrious, without any CAP, managed to dodge 9 Betties
- Dutch air force (or what was left of it), destroyed on the ground. I knew this was going to happen, I could had sent them to Palembang, but the chances of additional CAP and additional strikes were too good to pass, besides, this was a good, honorable, way to go. Not a lot of uses for them after the fall of DEI anyway. Surviving pilots will refocus on naval search, as enough Dorniers and Cats were preserved

Now time for the carriers to get out.

I think that the Dutch pilots can go into an Australian B-25 air unit. It had pilots and aircrew from both nations.

I think I am using one Dutch squadron in Australia, or maybe it is Dutch B-25s with American pilots

Dutch pilots are already scarce, and I have a lot of Cats and Dorniers. I also disbanded a good number of squadrons before, so I know eventually they will appear somewhere; I will end up with more squadrons that planes; focus will be on anything that can do naval search

Fighters were already obsolete (Buffalos) or soon to be (P-40s) so I am not losing sleep for those

I agree, it is a longer way home for Mutsu; one of the reasons I have Nevada in ANZ is the fact it can fit in Sydney's yard

Great Nicobar fell this turn; the battle for Trinkat will start.. a key advantage I have in it is that because while he was focused on Great Nicobar, I managed to build an airfield in Trinkat; that means I will have to trade a Hurricane squadron for some time

On Great Nicobar, I managed to evac some troops, therefore there is no need to purchase back
