Ok, I am wrapping this one up ... more fixes in the works ... served it's purpose, time to move on to new versions of code.

Been fun. [:)]

Japan has *even* with a serious problem managed to take the entire SRA from me. Further play is just going to show how big an early loss of 800+ aircraft for nothing affects the game.

Multiple fixes coming out of this one. I'll be starting another after a bit of sleep.

Mr Frag - thanks for your insight and for sharing your game with us. Looking forward to seeing changes implemented. I doubt any game of this scope has been under such scrutiny from the public prior to release. Bravo to Matrix/2by3 for letting us 'play before paying' this way. [8D]

Great to hear [:)]

That Matrix and 2by3 are allowing open AARs and playtesting even at this late date says a lot about their dedication and openess.

WiTP will be THE Pacific wargame that will be played for many, many years to come, and there are a lot of dedicated players who have/will be playing their hearts out to make this the best game possible.

Now you get some sleep [:D]

Other than the operational losses change, what other "fixes" have been requested?

Dear Mr. Frag,

Thank you for sharing the AAR's. Your tactical tutorials are priceless. The "stealth" CV taskforce for example. BTW what were the plans for the Five divisions in Noumea (with more on the way apparently?) A stab at Rabaul?

Yours,

Tondern

No, that would be extremely dangerous at this stage of the game. I have no air support really this early in the game and Oz is critically short on base units (not even having enough for their own aircraft forget about all the American aircraft on the way).

Logistics completely governs what you can do in this game. Consider base units with their support and aviation support to be part of the logistics side of the game. You can only put stuff where you can support it.

I have *tons* of aircraft, but bases with 30 AV support really don't do much when you stick 300 aircraft there! [:D]

You are also critically short on engineers at this stage so building up new bases and moving forward is impossible. While you can go dump troops onto a rock, they will basically accomplish nothing without engineers and aviation.

Troops take bases so you can build a base into a useful part of your logistics trail. Without the ability to use the base, there is little point taking it at this stage. As I always maintain, the USA is not permitted a step backwards. Every other part of the Allies can, but the USA must move forward as it's network can be built and protected because of the distances involved.

Although others may disagree, I don't expect to "repeat" history. In my opinion, every turn after historical turn #1 you have a chance to either beat or be beaten by history[:D]. If I hold Mandalay (ahistorically) it doesn't mean the game is broken! It means that I made better choices and took more risks than the British Generals who did not have the advantage of foresight. In my games, I plan on beating history every time I play. If I don't or if I can't because the AI has been overly compensated, then this game would be no fun for me. I found MR Frags strategy to fortify Mandalay, at the expense of India, PI and Singapore EXACTLY the type of moves that I plan to do when I play. If this doesn't allow me to do better than history then I will not be happy with the game. All of you history types know that things could have been very different if individuals had made different choices at different times in history. I want to be able to make the "better" choices and enjoy the success that accompanies that choice.

But again thats just me[:'(]

I really have to chuckle as everytime I start winning, the developers go and fix stuff so I can't.

I have come to the conclusion that I will never be allowed to win a game! [:D]

It's just not fair I tell ya! [X(]

Seriously, the issue with the suicidal aircraft is being addressed, but be very aware that we are in a high risk period. The Air Balance way that is calculated for each base and the AI uses to determine what needs to be done is in a constant fight with other things. The AI has to get things done too. It can't just sit back and say, "hey, I'm Japan, I will loose so I am just going to stay home".

Changes made here could have unknown effects that will not show up for months.

Fixing the AI so it runs over me in Mandalay could very well over fix it in which case the AI will completely eliminate the Brits from the game! [:D]

i agree with your point of view. when someone complains because the game is not showing a historical out come, i want to laugh. the point of this game is to fight differently than history. we have hindsight to tell us where the japanese we going and what they had for equipment and experience. i want to do better. general stillwell would have done better in burma if given a free hand, with all troops available.

hell it will be HARD not to do better in Burma since unlike Stillwell....the players dont have to deal with inter-service rivalies....inter-national command rivalies and last by not LEAST, Chiang Kai-shek

there's also no "monsoon season" so that might cause a speed up in developments. It wont be a picnic for the Allies....as long as the Japanese maintain strong forces there. Now that we have a "burma road" rule.....there's actually a reason to fight there now too.

Oh, the pain! The Horror!

New strategy: Frag hides in England!

The Anti-Frag fix notes: [X(]

"Weakened and eliminated some forts in Burma. Reduced Mandalay airfield. Delayed arrival of 6 Indian Engineer units."

You guys better hope to hell I don't win the next one or you'll be playing on Easy level against the AI to have a chance! [X(]
