You know how dicey the Allies' information about Japan ships sunk is. I'm sure more heavy cruisers are gone, and battleships too.

Both Yamatos are in play.

I just caught up with this AAR. Very entertaining, thank you for your work. This game is a test of endurance and emotional fortitude that is unique. A real treat to watch.

Thanks witpqs, it looks like you are very well positioned for the last stretch. Will be interesting to see if you can get the Japanese to surrender before the historical date.

I usually do as you do. At this point in this game I have some problems to deal with despite my overall good position.

First, even though I got within B-29 range nice and early, Walter was even earlier with his high-tech aircraft R&D. What to do? Hitting factories directly just didn't seem to be doing enough. I'll bet he has TONS of the better aircraft and he's making the high tech stuff in numbers that my pool of B-29's can't cope with yet. So, I switched to night strategic strikes. That seems to mean Manpower, because when I targeted individual factories those strikes went poorly (might have been a flawed test). Targeting Manpower has gone fairly well, but it's still a slog. The main product is reducing Japan supply production by damaging HI and LI. As an aside, when Naha is taken and built up, I plan to base the soon to arrive B-29B there because they will be within normal range of Tokyo with their massive bombload. Then all the B-29's hit Tokyo Manpower until pretty much nothing is produced there.

As far as China goes, since much of the Allied horde is yet to arrive on the scene - Cam Ranh Bay, Singapore - I need to attack the Empire's supply stocks to overcome their army in less time.

I have already begun routing convoys from the US West Coast direct to Indochina and China will not be far behind.

I should point out that when I liberate an area I ship in supplies to repair everything. Everything. Because each item takes 1,000 supply per day, that will be really hard in China. I might have to slow it down by turning off some items until other items are repaired, but everything will be repaired or still underway when the game ends.

That won't extend to the Home Islands, but if the game goes long enough that I am getting amazing quantities of supply ashore I might start repairs.

Mixed up in that is the amount of resources needed. HI needs 10? fuel and 20 resources per 2 points of supply produced (and per HI point). LI needs 15 resources for each point of supply, a higher ratio of resources to supply than HI has. But each resource center produces 20 per turn so as long as you have 75% resource centers to LI (nearby or on major rail connection) your LI should be OK. The Industry button at the top of the page should show if there are any shortages of resources reaching the LI operating.

Right. At this point I'm only concerned about enemy (IJ) production so I won't get much insight into what is getting enough materials for production. For simplicity I'm assuming that HI and LI get enough materials to produce, and I'm knocking them down to effective zero (I don't think on recon I've ever seen either HI or LI go below 2).

Don't forget to hit the airfields and ports to try and hit the supplies there as well as hitting the fuel at ports.

Yes, been hitting the relevant airfields with the main aim of achieving supply hits. Over the course of time I find it much more difficult to get fuel hits at ports so I won't bother with that.

witpqs: (I don't think on recon I've ever seen either HI or LI go below 2)

Right. One of those two points is ephemeral. When you do a mouseover of a base the industry figures are always +1 over actual. That only changes if it is one of your bases and you open the base screen and look at the industry directly. Subsequent mouseover that turn will show actual numbers. Don't know why that is, but it is similar to the 1 extra AV point attributed to LCUs even if they have no actual combat troops.

• It took a shock attack after heavy Allied air strikes, but the Imperial forces got the job done. There was a single Helen raid, and our own air support made a number of effective strikes on the evil ground troops. The Empire did put up CAP of Franks and Ki-83, and out sweeps treated them roughly indeed. It's good seeing Ki-83 go down (23 of them and 3 Franks). It will take two hexes of road travel for the evil horde to catch up to the brave 18th Australian Brigade, and they will continue to have air support. Can they build effective defenses in the meantime?

China

• Didn't realize that I had to re-order the attack near Mengtze (due to odds below 1 to 1), so the enemy got a day of respite, but that will be short lived!

• We have troops approaching Kwangchowan (about 3 days out).

• The Chinese Army 29th Corps, 703 AV, is less than a week west of the road fork between Mengtze and Kunming. Additional units on that route are weeks behind them.

• In about 5 days our two units in the mountains marching to interdict the road between Tsuyung and the river crossing bridgehead will be in place, then we will reinforce the bridgehead and attack there.

• The intrepid Australian 18th Bde is recovering and hastening to build fortifications while the enemy marches to their new position. Allied air strikes are helping as much as possible, as is air dropped supply.

• Two divisions and a Bde are in the forest just SE of Nanning, the divisions heading for the enemy position east of Nanning, manned by an enemy division. Another enemy division is just east of our troops, and the Bde will head there as a blocking force. Also we will have another unit move to their current position to prevent them being cut off from supply just in case the enemy unit (likely a very strong Bde) just to the SE (across the river) thinks to move NW.

• Liuchow, 2 hexes east of Nanning, looks to have perhaps 2 divisions of combat power, but perhaps less. Recon is spotty.

• 4 LI hits at Wuchow, now 8(53); 20 LI hits at Hong Kong, now 69(152).

• The 20th has a Morale of 40, no idea why. Commander is good, troops are 74 Experience, Disruption is 12, Fatigue is 26. Could be more Support available. Not much prospect of rest in a base for them; I'll leave them in place for a few days while the 29th marches in pursuit. This is sensible because previously routed enemy units are to the SE marching NW, onto the road stub we just captured.

• In 5 or 6 days our 702 AV unit will arrive just NW of Mengtze (from the west).

• Near paoshan, our 2 units in the mountains will achieve the road next to Tsuyung in 4 days. Accordingly, the large unit waiting near the river-bridgehead will begin moving tomorrow. Once it crosses the river we will launch a general attack on the enemy position there, our newly arrived units blocking retreat toward Tsuyung.

Saratoga, in addition to being in grave danger even without any more torpedo hits, has engine damage which will take a long-ass time to repair.

If I remember correctly, by that time she was semi-retired since her elevators only moved half as fast as the other fleet carriers so she was used for training on the West Coast.

If that Aussie unit took lots of green replacements or is at a low % of its TOE, morale suffers. I'm not sure if marching for weeks on end affects morale, but it could have been programmed. IRL it would!
